I've never played Terraria but I've played Minecraft and it is amazing.
Plus Minecraft is first-person which is better than third-person.

I would have to give the trophy to Minecraft for it's originality, size, and 3D perspective. Minecraft for me is more of a creative sim than an adventure game, though the recent updates are certainly taking it in an adventurish direction. The structures you can create in Terraria cannot compare to those in Minecraft because of the extra dimension. However, Terraria does have Minecraft beat in the combat department, with a greater abundance of weapons, items, and enemies. In addition, the combat in Terraria has a more skilled feel to it, whereas combat in Minecraft feels like more a chore. Though I will say that those recent updates to Minecraft are making combat more enjoyable and I am think if it continues, Minecraft will also surpass Terraria in that aspect as well.

Truth is that I have played the demo of Minecraft for a little while, but there wasn't enough to keep me entertained for any real length of time. It's fun for a little while, but I wind up getting bored quickly.

Terraria looks awesome, but I have to admit that I haven't even tried that one out yet. I keep trying to remember to, but I always forget.

In my opinion both the games are special in their own ways, while both having the open world sandbox idea in mind. Minecraft boast's more of a survival and building aspect. While Terraria is more focused on adventure. I play both games regularly and I hate it how the communities flame on one another because both the games use blocks as the building block for the worlds. Both games are diverse and should be treated as such, It would be like me comparing DOOM is Crysis and saying that Crysis ripped DOOM off because both of the games have weapons and aliens. I do, however, stick to Minecraft more than Terraria, but it is mainly because the player base is rather small in Terraria, which is a shame, because the game deserves a lot more credit and is severely underrated.
