these two games boast collecting of various blocks and placing them as you please while fending off monsters, which of them is more appealing? my opinion Terraria is more appealing, but i was into Minecraft since the beginning of the nether update so im torn between the two

I bought my minecraft copy about 2 months ago, it was so addictive for the first month (still is every now and again). I havent played Terraria but by the looks of it, it doesnt seem that great... I think id enjoy Minecraft a lot more.

it took me about 10 seconds to know which I liked better. I've played minecraft and it's a lot of fun. The side-scrolling of the terraria totally turned me off of playing that game. Side-scrolling is so 80's and 90's. Get with the program. 1st person is the way to go.

I LOVE MINECRAFT

It is so simple yet so addictive and interesting. And I don't know if Terraria is able to do this, but many people have developed mods for minecraft at the minecraft forum. They have additions, map generators, and even adventures that they created for anyone to try.

I'm sorry, you can't compare the games to that extent, they're too different. Minecraft is more building and creation orientated.
Terraria is more adventure/action orientated.

Each has their ups and downs.

Any way both games are good but Mine Craft is better. I like that game more because that game is the original...

billythekidmonster : yeah, but we're not talking about older games.... these are games that are being developed right now. If I wanted to play a side scroller then I would play one.... but since we can do 3d games really well now I will prefer that out of a new game over the 2d side scrolling aspect.

Ehhh - that still sounds really wrong to be honest, when it comes to the style that a game is created in - it really doesn't matter if the thing is designed properly.

Think of it this way - really, the two games aren't in direct competition with each other. It doesn't really come down to you play one or you play the other, Minecraft however is far more ambitions with its ever expanding updates, additions and modding community the likes of which you rarely see for a game. Terraria on the other hand, is very well designed in and of itself - some people might find themselves overwhelmed with Minecraft and let their creativity go on something a bit simpler, and there's nothing wrong with that really.

Now - there are a ton of amazing flash games out there that are 2D on sites like Newgrounds and Kongregate - a lot of them are sit down and play once affairs but they are still designed VERY well.

I have yet to buy my minecraft copy yet ( waiting on my sister so i can use her credit card) but i've been watching soooo many commentaries about it.
I used to hate on it but since i've seen the videos i've changed my ways  BDD
I just found out about Terraria a couple weeks ago but that looks like Minecraft in rpg form with more mechanics to it.
But both same fun xD

I haven't played Terraria, but from what I've heard of the side-scrolling feature, I would have to say Minecraft.

Having played both...

I take Minecraft in a game of design, to show my creative muse.

However, I take Terraria as the adventure game.

Both have their perks, but I can't say I can pick one surpremely over the other.

I really don't like Minecraft.

I can't get it to work. I contacted the support team and they haven't responded.

Terraria, I don't even have glitches. Terraria is awesome.

I dislike Terraria a lot, actually. I enjoyed Minecraft quite a bit.

So, I suppose that means that I like Minecraft more than Terraria. I dislike the 2D aspect and poor graphics of Terraria... and Minecraft is much more creative.

I still play from time to time, but it's one of those games that you can't play too much without it getting really boring.

I actually stopped playing about a month ago, while I waited for something new to happen.

I've seen some really insane things that people have made using Minecraft. I would love to do the same, if only I had the time.

From my own personal experience of both games, Minecraft ends up on top. The simle freedom and origionality of minecraft is just more appealing. i downloaded Terraria hoping it was going o be close to Minecraft and unfortunately i was terrible disappointing. i have spent over a year addicted to Minecraft now and always have something new coming to mind that causes me to play non stop for weeks(of course excluding school, friends and guitar practice). but Terraria i have played maybe 3 times since i originally downloaded it. its just unappealing to my sense of a sandbox game. i understand it has a lot of adventure qualities but with the new adventure updates on Minecraft its fixing that not counting the endless mods from the community. In all words i think Minecraft tramples over Terraria.

I'd have to go with Minecraft. While Terraria is more visually appealing and has more to offer in the adventure department, Minecraft tends to be much more addicting. It allows you to be creative while also setting boundaries. (I.E. maintaining food supply and defense against the various monsters) It also helps with the large community making mods, maps, and texture packs. (though I'm waiting for them to make modding official and easier to use)

However, I don't think Minecraft "tramples" over Terraria. There are many aspects of Terraria I like better, such as more freedom to explore, getting starting items, simpler crafting, etc. while stilling being a challenging game. However, it's annoying to build even a simple structure, especially because of the need to make "back walls". Those should've been left out because it shouldn't be made like a 2&1/2-D game, but just 2-D.

In all, Minecraft is better, but Terraria doesn't fall far behind it.
