Have you?

Alot of people in my family have gotten laid off. It really sucks cause that person starts to have finacial problems and such. I JUST DON'T GET IT! Why do they lay off people I mean I seriously don't get it.

I don't have a job because I'm to young. But I'm pretty sure if I had a job I would get laid off.

People get laid off because their employer cannot afford to employ them anymore... most commonly because they themselves are having financial problems, like not making enough money. In those situations, people get laid off that are not necessary. Now, it is not always fair... my future mother-in-law was just laid off awhile back at a job where she worked as a temp and had applied for a full-time position, then brought back two weeks later and found out that any temp with a connection to management was kept working and that they had done the interviews while she was gone... even though she has been there longer than any of them and knew how to work more of the machines than they did. For the record, that is known as nepotism (giving positions to friends and family over others), and when that happens it is very unfair and actually illegal. The company is denying that is what happened, but all of the workers, including the ones that did not get laid off, know it is true.

Now, in my experience, yes I have been laid off before. My first several jobs were seasonal, so when the season ends, you get laid off. I was a monster for a haunted house (pics in my photo album), a school bookstore cashier for the rush season, and a Census enumerator (the ones that went door to door). I was also fired once from a brewery supply store, later realizing that the manner in which they went about it was bother gender and age discrimination, but I had worked there for a month so it actually counts as being laid off I suppose... but yeah, I got the stomach flu and had to call in sick and they fired me for it (the place had a food rating, I legally could not work there with the stomach flu), and because the owner had to cover for me I was fired... I was the only female employee and the only one under the age of 45 working there. No warning, no call, just showed up at my door and handed me my severance check and told me I was being let go. Oh, my coworker had called in the week before, and hour after he was supposed to be there, with a hangover and left me (a newbie) to work alone all day. Yet he called and whined to the boss when I called in sick.

Elara : That is really strange. This world just keeps getting weirder and finacialy this would is in trouble and has been for a while have you noticed how milk is like over 4 dollars now?

But I Don't think it's fair either to lay off other people just to give their family or friends that job of the person who they laid off.

I'm sorry you've been through so many jobs and this and that.. but I know when you find the right job in life , I'm sure it won't happen that time.

Well, like I said, I only had a problem getting laid off by the that one store. The other jobs I was fine with the lay off because I was not expecting anything else... I mean, after Halloween the haunted house season is over and nothing changes that. My last job was very nice, and not seasonal, but I had to quit because I moved to another state... now I am just hoping to find some kind of work out here, temporary or otherwise.

Thank you, Bintsy, I hope so as well. My plan is to get my credentials and become a history teacher... working on getting into the program now. At least then I will have financial aid money to help... I hope.

Bintsy : Regrettably yes… A long time ago I worked for HSN and was fired after about six months… Since then I haven’t held a “Regular job” but I am a journalist that works as a freelancer. For the most part the positions/spots I’ve held in regard to my writing have stretched years in most cases but I have been let go from a couple of spots where I really didn't appreciate how I was dismissed as in some cases I was let go without notice from those who I worked for and some didn’t even have the integrity to talk to me afterwards.

In those rare cases it’s left a bad taste in my mouth but I don’t let it get to me… Sure it bothers me because I take a lot of pride and put a lot of time into my work but, the way I look at it is if they don’t have the class enough to show respect enough to face someone when they don’t want their services any longer then, it’s their loss.

The way I look at is it shows how unprofessional some can be when they either have differences in opinion or simply don’t get along with someone who is providing that person and or company with content and they don’t even have the class to face you and tell you they don’t want to work with you. It isn’t worth it to get angry about it and is much more productive to show class and go out and show those people whom may have done you wrong that they made a mistake. At least that’s how I feel about it.

I have been fired from three different jobs. One was entirely my fault because to be honest it was my first job and I wasn't mature enough to really handle it. The second one I lost because I kept coming up really short in my register and I'm almost completely sure to this day that one of my managers or another employee was stealing money out of my register. The last one was just a really bad situation where I trusted someone I shouldn't have and got fired for it.

DON'T EVER LEND ANYONE MONEY NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY BEG YOU.

I was fired from 1 and laid off of 1. The one i was fired from it was because i took off of work without giving prior notice to the boss. The one i was laid off from was due to the economy. Thank God the economy is getting back on it's feet!

Yes actually the last job i was employed at about 5 months ago laid me off, saying that there just wasnt room in the budget for my position. The buisness soon folded afterward.

I have been laid off before. As a matter of fact, it happened twice about 2 years ago. First, I was delivering pizza, which was going fine. But eventually, the manager got promoted by corporate and transferred. The new manager that replaced him sucked. I won't go into details because it is off topic, so I quit. Big mistake. The town had a lot of businesses shut down the past few years and since there are a lot of other college students looking for work, it is hard to find a job. I found one at a meat packing facility, so I took it even though I hated it. They ended up hiring more people than they could give work to so they laid off a few of us, and I was one of the ones that got let go. I worked there for 2 weeks. A while later, I found a job as those annoying people who call people on the phone to do surveys. For about 2 weeks, it was going fine, but then there was a 4 week period where they kept calling all the employees to tell them there wouldn't be work for the day. So I was employed, but did not work for 4 strait weeks. Then they called everyone to tell us that the branch got shut down so everyone got laid off. For a while, it was really bad because my fiancée had to take over my half of all the rent and utilities. But it actually was good that it happened because I HATED those jobs and was miserable working them. I only took them because I needed to make money and couldn't be picky about where I could get a job. But if I didn't get laid off from those places, I wouldn't be working at the mental health center now. I set my own hours, it is a good job, and I make enough money a month to pay my half the monthly living expenses twice. It is one of those blessing in disguise sort of deals for me. Unfortunately, that isn't the case for most. I agree that it isn't fair, but it is really no body's fault. If you simply can't afford to keep all your people employed, you have to make cuts, or you lose the whole thing and EVERYONE is out of work instead of a few. It sucks, but it is just one of the difficulties in life.

No i have never been laid off, Only due to the fact that no one wants to give me a job in the first place. I don't know why this is as I have always got good feedback from interviews, I generally think it is caused due to my epilepsy and they employers do not want to take a risk

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
