Well I am 15 and turned 15 on october 31 and mom still will not take me to get my permit..

I want it so bad but sense teens are the number 1 in america to get in car accidents, do you think we should be able to get our liscene at 16.

I do but, I don't think we should be texting while driving cause its just a wreak to happen. I think they actually made it a law that you can't text while driving down here now, but it does not stop people.

I worrie now about all my friends and family. But when I get my permit or lisence, I'm gonna make sure I stay safe and follow the law.

Well, in Alberta, Canada, we can get our G1 when we are 14, but I still say no because teenagers can sometimes make silly mistakes, or lose consentration, and it's tragic to hear in the news about young kids, my own age getting in car accidents and dying because they were being a little stupid.

What is a g1 is it like a permit or something if so good lord. Down here a permit is where you take a test but when you drive you have to always hav an adult in the car with you. AND if a G1 is simialar to a permit, I mean good lord that is crazy lol.

But it is so sad when you see people get in car wrecks and die or get hurt that are of my age.

There is this one guy I know and almost about 2 weeks ago he was in a four wheeler wreak with another guy, the other guy is okay I think but my friend got really bad hurt,

They say when it jerked him off his brain went back words and hit the back of his head and then banged fowards into the front of his head and its bruised really bad. And mom said 90% of those people that have what he has do not come out of there coma and the other 10% that possible wake up , don't remember anything and its like they were just born again, dont know how to eat walk, etc , this boy is in the 8th grade. But I still have alot of hope in god and pray every night that he will be okay and that god makes a maraculous healing on him.

Sometimes I don't understand those things how one minute somebody could be okay the next there in a hospital. It's just horible.

I think the longer you have to wait the better. Allowing 16 year olds to drive cars unattended is stupid. I'm saying that partially because I was one of those stupid 16 year olds.

SilverMaestro : that has changed. Now you can't get it until you're 16 and the full license doesn't kick in until 18. I think it's better that way.

Lol ya, alot of my friends who are 15 drive without a parent in the car lol which when you get your permit at 15 your suppose to have a parent by law but, lol I say the heck with it as long as they dont get caught, because most of their intensions are to go a short distance for there mom to get something or to help a friend out real quick.

Ya down here in one part of mississippi you can get your actual drivers lisence at 15.. but the part where im at and also all of alabama you get your perminate drivers lisence at 16 even if i was in an area where you could get it at 15, mom wouldn't let me, I mean she wont even let me get my permit, she thinks I'm to immature or not responsible enough yet, just a parents way of saying they really love and care about you and don't want you to be in a bad car wreak.

"I think that we should be able to 14, therefore I could be able to get it right now."

Absolutely no logical reason behind this other than "I wanna I wanna I wanna"

It's nice to know that issues like this are not decided by teenagers. I personally don't think any teens should be allowed to drive alone until they are at least 18. That way you would have slightly more mature people starting to drive on their own. 18 is better than 16 in my opinion.

I'm 14 I could care less about driving but my mom actually wants me driving she has 4 kids that can't drive (my brother has his permit but she still has to be with him) and my mom has to drive my dad and her boyfriend around because they can't drive they both have DUI's. I can't get a permit for another year and a half and she's already having me read a drivers manual.

Well, it depends on the teen... Like how mature they are and stuff.... If they're reckless in nature, then I'd say that would be a bad idea.

I was going to say the same thing as geeo. 18 would be a much better age for a license. It doesn't completely feel right to get it at 16. No offense to you guys in that age group, but you're a bit more careless in those years. Guys will want to be driving reckless, especially if they have fast or cool-looking cars. Girls will either text or talk on the phone, which is more dangerous than reckless driving. And we know how much they love to talk talke. Not to mention their eye-foot coordination isn't as good as a male's. My brother was almost killed by a 16 year old teenie-bopper on her cell phone while driving on the highway. His car lost a wheel, somehow (yes, the entire wheel just came off) and after standing around for a couple minutes of inspecting he slammed right into the rear. His car was totaled.

18 is what I feel the standard should be.

When I first got my license, the driver training course in high school was relatively new, and I was able to get my license at 16 and a half years old. Getting your license has long been an important rite of passage for teenagers in the US. Unfortunately, it is also dangerous for young and relatively inexperienced drivers to drive without limits, especially when they are commonly testing their limits with everything they do.

Many states have increased the age or put limits on the youngest drivers as a matter of public safety. There is a lot of conflict between the desire for safety and the recognition that driving is an important privilege that they look forward to.

Well, I just got my license last August so I could transport myself to college at 18. I'd say I'm pretty good driver, but people can get distracted. Maybe it's just my personality style, but new things like driving may feel comfortable, but there's still a degree of experience involved. No matter how long teens have to wait to start driving, it's the experience that matters. I waited until 18 and have done well so far, but the other week I went to turn into a gas station I'd never driven to on my own before and nearly caused an accident because I was focused on the car coming out of the station and forgot absentmindedly about the cars coming from the other side of the road. So in the end, 15/16 isn't too early in my opinion to start driving, since you want to have them absolutely ready. "Practice makes perfect." I still had my permit a year and a half before getting that license in August. For my situation it could just be "people make mistakes," since I do feel comfortable driving, but when doing new things (especially behind the wheel) I usually get nervous. I've still never driven in a downpour alone....

I'm 18 and I still don't trust myself behind a wheel. Besides, where does a 15 year old need to go? When I was 15 all I did was study and hangout with friends occasionally and go on the internet, what else is there to do? It's not like young teenagers have jobs or anything. Heck, can they even see above the steering wheel?

NotJon : haha well I actually drove a car on some back roads before 1 or 2 times when I was about 14 but of course I had a parent/guardian with me teaching me, When I drove though I would get really tense and stuff at the time but I havent ever drove sense then, lol and when your 16 where I live you get A way wider variety of jobs from when your 15. I'v always wanted to work in the restraunt business and at 16 I can do so,I would possibly need to know how to drive though lol.

Bintsy : There are other alternatives besides driving. Public transportation should be just fine. I use it.

I think 18 could be a good age, I actually got mine at 17 only because I was lazy. In CA u can get it at 15 yrs of age. I agree that we are more easily distracted, irresponsible, or careless, but it is also a convenience for those family's that could use another person to drive around. However I will stick with 16 as the age for a permit.
