I read all these responses and I think, "It was nice knowing you."

No offense, folks, but the whole idea of self-defense is survival. You don't actively attack someone who's a threat to you. You escape, evade, avoid, and flee. You don't disarm, you leave. There are always opportunities to get out and away. If you're caught so badly that you have no chance to go anywhere, you made some seriously bad decisions and you're in serious trouble.

The Marines taught me ways to kill people for six years. I still wouldn't get into a fight or try to disarm an attacker if I ran into one. I'd create space, get out in the open, and leave immediately. That's the trick to this sort of thing.

I'd love to see one of you try to disarm an attacker, especially a motivated one. Good-bye to you.

heres the stuff ive learnt about self defense, apprently your only supposed to use necessary force the policeman that came to our school ages ago said we should run away but if we are in a corner you cant severly hurt him or youll still be tryed in court which is ridiculous and there was a very real case in which a robber got let off a burglary because he was his houses provider and thats how he provided or somethign ridiculous like that. so primarily i would run away but if i was cornered then "F" what the policeman said i'd smash his nose in then keep hitting him till he was unconcious or something then call the police, from what ive seen in csi if you call the police you wont get in as much trouble
