the most useless character for me in FF was quena qen from 9 I don't know why they even thought about that and I also didn't like cait sith from 7 I have never had him do anything good for me.

the most pointless character hands down was(for combat reasons)shadow.he was only came out when he wanted to and wth is up with that?!and another pointless character was caith sith,umaro and qeuin seeing as their battle skills are just bad and caith sith is really spammy

Paine was very pointless, She was just like a clone of Lulu only even more Miserable..

And as for Boss Characters... Necron the final boss of Final fantasy IX was the definition of pointless, It was mentioned throughout the whole game and then suddenly at the end it appears and states that it wants to destroy everything....

Gau is one of my most favorite characters..you didn't NEED to control him, he's there to do damage, and thats what he does, and very well I might add.. If your diligent and get as many monster abilities as you can for him, he's basically ready for any situation. In my opinion, he's one of the most versatile characters in FF history.

I can't think of any character that was completely useless

I love Rinoa but the most useless character would be Caith Sith. He deceived Cloud and he is just a puppet for Reeve of the Shinra Corporation. Even if he did make it up by getting the Black Materia he is still a wierd looking mechanical puppet, it's hard to feel anything for a character like that.

Although he was optional i think Quina was one of the most useless characters ever made because everytime i tried to get an enemy weak enough to hit quina would always kill it and all the people saying Yuna was useless she was actually the most important charater in the game to defeat Sin but yea Quina is useless and so was Edge from FF4 all he could do to hurt things was to use shurikens his ninjitsu wasn't that good and he died in one hit every single time

I liked Quina, I used him a lot cause I just liked that he could eat monsters 10 times his size... an ability I always wanted...

and Galufs granddaughter Krile. Stealing Galufs abilities like that...

Cait Sith and Yuffie from 7 just ;cause Cait Sith is weird and Yuffie steals all your materia and doesn't give it back,

The lilty in FF ring of fates. She's useful but too slow.

I'm just glad that you only need to have most of these characters for a small portion of the game.

I have to go with Paine from FFX-2. Her character was a freaking walking stereotype! "Oh, I'm depressed so I'm going to talk in this monotone voice the entire game." -rolls eyes- I'll admit that I kinda liked her secret story, but the character herself just annoyed me. 

My answer is flat and simple... there are no "useless" characters.  All characters of the FF series have a purpose of their own that fits every type of gamer's way of playing. How could Yuna be useless?  her healing powers saved my characters from complete obliteration plenty of times. And dont even get me started with Aerith.  She's just what drives you to go on, with her super healing powers, we were able to survive when the potions were gone.  try pointing out the good things in a character instead of pointing out the things that you find "useless".

The Thief in final fantasy 1. He's not as strong as the warrior and he has lousy defense.

Nothing about him makes sense to me.

His weapon is basically a kickball with a few bumps.
His hair makes him impossible to take seriously.
And you expect me to believe he got Lulu pregnant?

I think the FF girls were all quite awesome to be honest.... but the most useless character I can think of is Edward from FF4 he was terribly weak and all he was useful for was speeding the party up and healing HP a little he was worthless I was very happy when he left

darkknight_uk : TrasherEvan here! Honestly? I think all of the new Final Fantasy characters are lame. I mean, all the guys are way too buff, and everyone could use to put some more clothes on. Traveling in the snow must be heck for them.

I guess the closest thing to that would be Lightning from XIII. She has a gun that turns into a sword, a gravity flippy thing (very briefly, from what I've played, not sure if you get it back. Did you know it was almost going to be a game play element?), and when she goes l'cie (however it's spelled), she gets fire powers.

As for lame FF characters, my least favorites would be Rinoa (for the first couple of hours you meet her) and nearly everyone in FFXIII. Snow's an idiot, Vanille's the obvious 'moe' (but not to me) Jail bait fan service character who makes weird moaning noises every five seconds, and Hope Esthiem has to be the single most annoying fictional character mankind has ever conceived. This kid is almost like a parody of Shinji Ikari and every other whiny angst kid ever. It seems like S-E made his mom die just so he could have an excuse to hate Snow, who is too busy moping over his 'dead' fiancée (we all know she lives, she's the main character of the apparently much better sequel). Hope is probably what S-E made when they heard all of the H8erz saying that their characters were too angsty, so they made a character based solely on angst. Every time the game forces me to put Hope in my party I scream in pain! I don't want to put this wimp in my party! He'll just on about how "L'cie are not human" and how being L'cie is suffering, and what the heck is that weapon he uses? Is it like some sort of boomerang whip thingy? Strangely enough there are a legion of fan girls over our shota wuss. Try typing in Hope Esthiem and the top searches will be "Hope Esthiem Yaoi" and "Hope Esthiem Lemon"

Hope... hope has changed.. and has become Esthiem.. all hope is lost... lost to Hope..._{everyone in that game has a stupid name btw k tnx bye}

How is Yuna Pointless? She made the game even more interesting seeing as she is a main character and has a big part in making FFX more enjoyable to me and not all the girls in FF are pointless! Lulu is awesome I will give you that! but there is also Tifa, Aerith, Fran, Lightning, Rydia, Rosa etc. etc. 

but if I were to choose a pointless character I would probably say Quina from FFIX because you can go through the entire game without even getting him and I don't really like blue mages...

I think Tidus was the worst. At the beginning I was begging for the guy to push him off the bridge when he was barely holding on. I'm tired of his voice and I'm pretty sure many others are. Along with the extremely linear path, these are the reasons why I hate Final Fantasy X so much!
