I find the books better, for the sole reason that a lot of things are cut in the movie versions. Rowlings' story is so intricately detailed, many things make less sense/have to be changed a good deal to fit in the movies.

I guess I got more interested in the movies more than the books.. I just read the first harry potter book before cause in 8th grade it was an assingment required in reading class... I hated it though borrrinnngg.

The books are obviously going to have more detail, and the movie will have better visuals (depending on your imagination)..my opinion though, i would defiantly have to go with the books, as they of course last a few hours/days while the movies last a mere few hours.

The books are much better than the movies. I guess I'm one of those people who want the movie to be exactly like the book; especially something I treasured so dearly in my childhood. I don't think the Harry Potter books can make a good movie; there are too many details that need to be in it, but they can't put in because it would be too long. What I think they should do is turn it into a tv show and each season could be one entire book or close to it anyway. That way they can cover more of the book and add all the twists and turns that make Harry Potter such an amazing read.

The books, definitely. I like the movies, I do, but the books have so much more detail. And the movies tend to leave me a little disappointed. =/ Especially Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince.
