In Stalin's case, Communism never really spread too much and Mao was generally not too smart of a leader (plus, there's so much propaganda in China that so few have spoken out against him).

Edit: Interesting link though they may have underestimated the deaths. I am very certain that the figure for Hitler is more in the 15-20 million range.

yeah.... but even if you go down the list there are a ton of people there that did a lot more damage with fewer resources than Hitler had. Sure, Hitler was bad.... but if people knew the stories of what some of the other leaders did (especially some of the Asian ones) you would think that gassing 12 million people as the humane way to kill people.
