I know this is probably a touchy subject, for some people, but I just wanted to know if anyone has gone through Mother Nature's wrath(Tornadoes, Earthquakes, Hurricanes.) because I personally haven't. But a friend of mine has had to go through Volcano's before, and lost everything, even his father's Semi Truck. But he has gotten through it. But I was wondering, if anyone else has had to go through disasters, like my friend went through.
But like I said before, if you don't feel like talking about it, then its okay. I will respect your wishes. -ND4/Nicker/UP1 But like I said before, if you don't feel like talking about it, then its okay. I will respect your wishes. -ND4/Nicker/UP1 |

I live in a part of the country (and world) that doesn't feel much of Mother Nature's wrath. No real tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc. really happen here. However, sometimes there are floods but it's never much. |

Severe thunderstorms are all I've ever experienced. And a couple blizzards. Back home we don't get much in the way of tornadoes. It's a fairly big metropolis, so I'm sure that has something to do with. I've never heard of tornadoes going through large cities. |

Well I was on vacation in Chile when the big earthquake hit.
Thankfully it wasn't hit that bad in the part where I was, which was the North. But it was really weird feeling the ground that I/we walk on shake and rattle...knowing you have no control over it. It makes me appreciate life more...who knows what could've happened if I were in the South, which was affected the most from the earthquake... A couple days later after this life changing experience, I booked my flight back to NY immediately! Thankfully it wasn't hit that bad in the part where I was, which was the North. About every 3-6 years, the Skagit River floods, but I live far enough away from it not to be affected really. I did help sandbag though. |

well i live in los angeles so we have had our share of disasters.wildfires,floods,earthquakes.but the worst r earthquakes not been able 2 predict when they happen.been thru all the earthquakes that have happen in the last 30 yrs. in the los angeles area.its amazing the power of a earthquake that happens 70 miles away from where u live.the closest i have been 2 a earthquake was 21 miles let me tell u it was one of the craziest experiences of my life i was 14 yrs old whats crazy is that my lil sister was just 3 weeks old when this earthquake hit everything shaking back and forth the power of this earthquake is unimaginable getting everyone under the table there were four of us my mom,2 sisters(12yrs old and 3 weeks old)and me.i got my baby sis and shileded her in case anything heavy hit the table and possibly go thru it whhich it didnt and my mom covered my 12 yr old sister the shaking went on for what felt like a eternity but was like 15 seconds of strong shaking.i lived in a apartment building which has 18 units everyone knows each other.some of us stayed inside i went outside complete darkness didnt see anything till some of the neighbors use flashlights.i got mine and checked 2 see if there was any damage to our apt unit or if any gas was leaking.this happened at about 4 am.so everyone in the apt building decided 2 stay outside when the sun rose some of the guys went inside 2 see if anything was damaged thru the building just some bricks the fell from the roof.been thru alot but this one stands out talk about crazy |

yeah... I live in Canada and near the mountains so the worst we get is blizzards and snow storms and such.
There are times during the winter where it has been -40 as a HIGH and the snow is so deep that a regular car just gets stuck. It's rough. And if your power goes out then you find some candles and such to keep the house warm and hope your pipes don't burst or anything... it can be pretty rough sometimes There are times during the winter where it has been -40 as a HIGH and the snow is so deep that a regular car just gets stuck. I live in the Midwest, rather Eastern. I have not experienced tornadoes hitting my house, I have had a couple of scary Tornado watches by towns or cities near where I live. |

Apart from some stronger rain here and there nothing happens around here. Oh, man, even natural disasters had forgotten us

i think the most kick butt disaster is an earth quake
An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. The seismicity or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakes experienced over a period of time. Earthquakes are measured with a seismometer; a device which also records is known as a seismograph. The moment magnitude (or the related and mostly obsolete Richter magnitude) of an earthquake is conventionally reported, with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being mostly imperceptible and magnitude 7 causing serious damage over large areas. Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale. At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacing the ground. When a large earthquake epicenter is located offshore, the seabed sometimes suffers sufficient displacement to cause a tsunami. The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity. In its most generic sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event—whether a natural phenomenon or an event caused by humans—that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults, but also by volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear tests. An earthquake's point of initial rupture is called its focus or hypocenter. The term epicenter refers to the point at ground level directly above the hypocenter. Tectonic earthquakes will occur anywhere within the earth where there is sufficient stored elastic strain energy to drive fracture propagation along a fault plane. In the case of transform or convergent type plate boundaries, which form the largest fault surfaces on earth, they will move past each other smoothly and aseismically only if there are no irregularities or asperities along the boundary that increase the frictional resistance. Most boundaries do have such asperities and this leads to a form of stick-slip behaviour. Once the boundary has locked, continued relative motion between the plates leads to increasing stress and therefore, stored strain energy in the volume around the fault surface. This continues until the stress has risen sufficiently to break through the asperity, suddenly allowing sliding over the locked portion of the fault, releasing the stored energy. This energy is released as a combination of radiated elastic strain seismic waves, frictional heating of the fault surface, and cracking of the rock, thus causing an earthquake. This process of gradual build-up of strain and stress punctuated by occasional sudden earthquake failure is referred to as the Elastic-rebound theory. It is estimated that only 10 percent or less of an earthquake's total energy is radiated as seismic energy. Most of the earthquake's energy is used to power the earthquake fracture growth or is converted into heat generated by friction. Therefore, earthquakes lower the Earth's available elastic potential energy and raise its temperature, though these changes are negligible compared to the conductive and convective flow of heat out from the Earth's deep interior.[1] and another good disaster is a tornado An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. I haven't personally experienced a natural disaster, but I did barely miss a tornado touching down in New Hampshire while I was on vacation. When we were leaving, we could see the path that the tornado had traveled because trees were ripped up and the ground was bare. |
