If it's fried or grilled, it probably has something to do with America. As for me, Chick-Fil-A french fries are good to me, especially when combined with Chick-Fil-A sauce or honey mustard. Yum...

Yeah I agree with all of you, almost all American food comes from some other culture. Although unfortunately when I think of american food I think of fast food,(hot dogs, hamburgers) just because its justs so popular in the states.

I would say a good old fashioned burger. I think that it is the most american food. I love it too probably one of my favorites.

American food has a tendency to take the cuisines of other cultures but make them appeal more to Americans. Usually this means simplified, altered, and yet authentic looking varieties. Hamburgers for example come from Hamburg steaks of Germany.

my first though is either Hot-dogs or something like Bacon cheeseburgers (something around there). I would say Pizza but we took that from Italy (Originally Pizza Pie). Sadly over 90% of things (food and other things) are from out of the country (not bad mouthing other country's).

I consider Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Double Downs, Salads that are worse for you than eating double downs, and anything that is big, and delicious, with a bun.

All us Canadians have is bacon, and Canadian bacon is really just ham to Americans.

Like many have said, most "American food" is adopted from other cultures. Hamburgers (Hamburg, Germany), Hotdogs (Frankfurt, Germany). We do change how it is made to make in the American style (like fried chicken, pizza, tacos, "Chinese food"). But few things actually originated here. Turkey is actually a fairly American food in origin... turkeys are a native animal of the Americas and the Native Americans introduced us to them... but the style in which we cook it is English.

Turducken, that is American. Popsickles are American. Philly cheesesteak is American. Corn, while also borrowed from Native culture, is American. As are tomatoes and potatoes (well, actually those came from South America). French fries are American.

Of course a true American food would be fast food to me. But most of it is (as many before me have pointed out) stolen from another culture. I like fast food though. I wouldn't mind it leaving my country though (Iceland hass been McDonald's free for a few years. YAY!!)

Fast food and hot dogs is what comes to mind for me.

I know a lot of people think of fast food and pizza as 'American food', I do it too since I like it so much! But, if you mean foods native to the continents of America, I always think of pumpkin pie and corn... and potatoes. I love corn and mashed potatoes as side dishes!

For me american food is a good peice of pizz or hamburger with french fries and a coke.

Every form of fast food and delivered food, with the exception of the occasional really good specific ethnic food, e.g. Greek or Chinese or Thai. Man, I love Thai, I've never had bad Thai, but that's not what this thread is about. Cheeseburgers, Hot Dogs, Fries, Pop (or soda as some of you strange folks call it down there), Freezies (or ice pops as those same folk who call it soda say), anything thrice fried in lard, beer battered, or so greasy it ruins whatever it's being contained in. Anything that makes you feel the grease pumping through your veins and making your blood pressure rise. Anything delicious. LOL I know a lot of the food is present in other cultures, but Americans have really put their own flair on things and given it a specific taste. I had french fries in Paris, and they sucked. Harsh. They tasted like how it smells after you cut the grass. I know they're not actually french, but it shows that other cultures have a distinction and imitation of "American" food, and that it tastes totally different. I'd love to go and eat a Cheeseburger in Taiwan, and see if it's anything like what I've ever had before, LOL

BTowns : French is the process of making the potatoes (fires) shaped like that. I am just sayingm if anyone is wondering and is too lazy to google (but I learn this at school).
