It'd make little sense to continue producing the games in the form they were originally in. I mean... It's a waste of money, and a niche type of thing. If we continued making copies of NES games on NES cartridges, we would see a game industry slump.

Sadly, the world of economy is not kind. If you want to survive, you gotta let the kids cry and think about yourself. It's sad, but true.
