Yeah Belial, I know that. I was just kinda pointing out that little thing.

And the symbol for the Trinity is a celtic knot that is also a pagan symbol of protection. Random factoid that I think you'd find interesting.

Yeah, I don't think that symbol is even a chritian symbol GEoogree So I don't see how we are trying to take it over. In my branch of the faith the only real symbols are things like the blood, or the cross, or a sword representing the word of truth. These just represent somthing specific from the bible. But yeah... us christians just steal things from other relgions,,,, and the world is 7 billion years old.

Christians never stole things from other religions?

HAH, that's laughable...

I think you need to read up on your history there Zylo....

the Christians tried very hard once, Constantine and other later emperors of the "Christian" Roman Empire were around, to weed out the pagan/wiccan religions.... quite often by incorporating parts of these religions into theirs....

but, maybe that is part of history that is being left out for you

Exactly... just look at the holidays, near every Pagan holiday there is a Christian one, the biggest three being Yule/Christmas, Ostara/Easter, and Samhain/All Saints Day (or Halloween if you want to count it as Christian still). Most of the others are Catholic holidays, since they honor saints.

Quote quote, OK... What did the christians steal from other religins? Elara here would say we stole... Lets say the Trinity symbol that the Druids were using 20,000 years ago, when in actuallity the world is only 6,000 years old. The Documented history doesn't go back very far, so I wouldn't talk Like You have all the answers when you say things like that.

Did we take Jesus dieing on the cross from other religions? All the christain holidays are "Near" pagan holidays? WOWZERS. When we celebrate a holiday its what we celebrate, not the time of year or the actual "day" it happened. Are washington and Lincolns birthday both on presidents day? Did Jesus actually get born dec 26? (or whenever christmas is)

BUT like I said, I go to a pentacost Church, We have the Bible. We don't put our faith in symbols or holidays. The symbols we DO use are symbols Jesus told us to use. "eat this bread in rememberance of me....... The bread and the wine"

Yeah, anyways correct me if I'm wrong but all the books of the bible were written before the death of Constantine right? hold on let me check...Constantine I (306 - 337 A.D.) YUPPERS.

As for the whole SYMBOL thing, if a group of people use a symbol to represent somthing then thats what it represents. If I flip the Bird to someone in Africa what will they think? If bigbog wants to use that sybol to represent the trinity more power too him. Just remember there is no power in the symbol, worship god not the symbol, don't let it become an idol for you.

They took the bread and wine idea from Pagans as well. Check out Belial's Interesting Info thread and you'll basically get a full list of what Christianity took from other religions... basically everything.

And unless you can give me hard proof that the earth is that young, I will trust the scientists.

Oh, random note for clarifications. Wicca was not established as a religion until the 1950s, and it was based on the Pagan religions of old. I just wanted to state that so no one would think anyone here was claiming that it's centuries old. See, I can admit things about my relgion.

Zylo: you really don't understand history or religion do you?

religion and history are both written by the winners.

and you really don't have any idea about Christian history it seems.

Ideas about the Trinity and Jesus himself were not "decided" upon until the Nicean Council and creed. A few hundred people voted on who Jesus, God, the Holy Spirit, and the Bible were. The Bible was compiled then, in the 300's by Constantine from a vastly larger set of potential texts.

I'm sick and tired of Christians that think the Bible came from God in the form it is in. It's stupid and irrational and ignorant.

Lol Geo, thanks for the flames. God INSPIRED the peeps who picked the books to be in the bible, and don't tell me ol ConSTANTINE altered Jesus's words concerning christianity and various things like the trinity because his words were documented by several of his disiples in several different books. That is what the christians base there theology on? Did Constatine make Jesus up?

After Jesus died people went around WITH the holy spirit preaching and speaking in tounges. And jesus spoke of the holy spirit coming after he went back up to heaven. So they knew about the SON, the FATHER, and the HOLY GHOST pretty much right after jesus went back up to heaven, its not somthing Consantine invented.

okay, first.... there were no flames.... but thanks anyway

second.... inspired? maybe.... can you prove it? nope. That's just how you explain how we got the bible we have.

Constantine could have easily had words changed. It is well known that the books were picked for a specific reason. The reason being that they talked about Jesus' divinity.

I realize that people spoke with tongues and the rest of it. That doesn't mean that 300 years later these things were strongly believed or understood anymore. All the people that were there had been dead for 200 years. Other ideas popped up in the meantime. The fact that Christianity is the way it is is only because certain people were listened to more than others were. They had the favour of Constantine. That's how it went.

Good Day all. I can maybe help clear up some of the questions that have risen here concerning blasphemy of The Holy Ghost and the doctrine of the Trinity.

Blasphemy of the Holy Ghost is attributing the works of The Spirit to satan thus the rejection of Christ. Read this in Matthew 12:

M't:12:22: Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
M't:12:23: And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
M't:12:24: But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
M't:12:25: And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
M't:12:26: And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
M't:12:27: And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
M't:12:28: But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
M't:12:29: Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
M't:12:30: He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
M't:12:31: Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
M't:12:32: And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Notice in verse 28 where Jesus attributed His power to cast out devils to The (Holy) Spirit of God and here in John 12 where Jesus says:

Joh:15:26: But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Not only does this verse proclaim the Trinity but Jesus clearly spoke of The Spirit testifying of Him so when one chooses to reject Christ he is calling The Spirit a liar and thus blaspheming The Spirit by denying The Spirit's witness of Christ.

The Bible clearly identifies God as a Triune God, eternally existing in three co-equal but distinct persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory and having the same attributes and perfections. (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; II Co. 13:14; John 14:10, 26)

Who here knows Jesus personally? I've seen pictures, but I really don't have any clue as to what he actually looked like. Did you know he lived 30 some odd years? Yeah, that's a lot of Jesus for one small book to cover (well, many small books make up the New Testament but to put it concisely, it's a book).

I wonder how many of you would say you know him. I can't say I do personally. I love him very much for what he did, but that's not the whole story. He was a human like anyone else. He didn't sin according to the bible, but that all depends on what you hold faith in. I'm sure he was a hell of a guy to be around. Christ! I wish I could have met him gosh darnit!

Why do so many people put him in this black and white suit? I mean Jesus Christ! What is he, some sort of test grader who only sees right and wrong and takes nothing into consideration? I don't think so gosh darnit! Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!

Okay, don't take offense and just finish reading. These phrases we say everyday that the uptight christian would call blaspheming are just that: phrases. I'm sure Jesus or God or whomever you're cursing against knows when you're actually cursing against them. It would just be poor judgment on their part not to give their lovely creations the benefit of the doubt on this matter.

"gosh darnit... Who took the last strudel!" Now I'm sure God knows I'm not actually cursing at him. I mean, he didn't take the last strudel. These phrases we use are just for emphasis and that is all. I'm sure a person could actually curse against God, but he should know when this happens.

My opinion.

Deal

I posted something in the Christian section if you would like to read it. It's called On Murder and Homosexuality.

Ouch, that was a pretty massive bump to this thread. But anyway, this is actually a great topic to revive, because it's a pretty touchy subject that is worthy of a ton of discussing.

Since it's already bumped, I just had to quote this. I'm fairly sure it's already been proven that certain pieces of information from the Bible, like this one, are, if you'll excuse me, bulls***, and that only by sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "LALALALALALA" could you possibly not realize it.

Nice call Bustus, I didn't even see that.

Zylo, I wonder also if you don't believe in dinosaurs... you know, giant, prehistoric reptilians? They found a lot of them buried beneath what could have only been millions of years of earth among ancient petrified forests.

Probably not ringing any bells... mmm, ok nurse!?! Yeah, nurse? Yeah, we have another one who's been affected by mental retardation. Hmm, what? Oh, no no, this one wasn't born special. No, a lot like the others he's been beaten with bats by his church, religion, and parents. Yeah, could you take him out back? What? HAHA, no don't try to convince him otherwise, just take him out back and let him be. Yeah, the rest of us are trying to evolve.

(I'm sorry if that was flaming Zylo, but I couldn't resist. It's cool if you think, or know, or whatever that the world is only 6000 years old.)
