Recently, a friend and I had a deep discussion about drugs/alcohol. I don't do any type of drug that harms my body in any way.
My first question is, what do you think about Marijuana? I took a class on Substance Abuse the first semester of my sophomore year (I'm a junior in high school), and I know what I'm talking about when I say that weed is better for you than cigarettes. Marijuana has much more tar than cigs, simply due to the lack of a filter. But cigarettes are packed with deadly chemicals like cyanide, arsenic, and even imbalming fluid. If it wasn't for the filter at the end of a cigarette, a lot more people would be dead. Marijuana on the other hand, is all natural. I don't support the use of it, but there haven't been any reports of death because of smoking too much weed. Plus, Marijuana doesn't have a tolerence. Most potheads think it does because they need more and more each time they smoke in order to get high. The thing is, THC, the chemical in weed that makes you high, takes about a month to completely leave your system. So if you smoke a little bit on Monday and the same amount on Wednesday, you won't feel anything. In my opinion, it's a waste of money and time. My second question is, what do you think about alcohol? I won't go into a big paragraph about alcohol, but it's not good for you at all. Alcohol has no good affects on your body after consumption. None that I can think of off the top of my head, anyways. I know that it's terrible for your liver and some nasty stuff can happen to you. But anyways, what's your take on the issue of drugs? I'm against drug use.... alcohol, tobacco and hard drugs... it does so much more harm than "good".
Marijuana is tough.... I've heard both good and bad. It's rare to hear anything bad about it when you're talking to someone who wants to smoke it . I figure the fewer chemicals you put in your body the better.... Marijuana is tough.... I've heard both good and bad. When you say drugs are a waste of money and time the same can be said about any other product your purchase. Since this is a gaming forum I'll use games as an example. Games can also be considered a waste of money and time so I don't think that should be the main reason to think drugs are bad.
Alcohol is the worst of all, if you think weed is bad then try living with multiple alcoholics your life you won't like it one bit. Drugs are a business, they might be a waste of money to you and what not but just think of how much money the government and drug companies profit from it. Whats funny about this whole drug thing though is everyone thinks drinking is good and safe. It's the only drug I know of that can be promoted to the fullest you even see ads for it during superbowls. Yet they banned commercials with cigarettes in them and pretty much banned people from smoking anywhere these days. If driving under the influence is illegal wouldn't cops just camp outside of a bar waiting for people to get in their cars to drive? They dont do that for the fact that they would loose tons of money and less people would go out to drink probably. I've tried marijuana, alcohol, and cigarettes. The only one that didn't make me feel sick or hurt me was marijuana. And it's been proven that using a vaporizer with marijuana removes almost all of the harmful substances in it. Yet I don't think it should be legal, nor should any drugs. Because I have a lot of pothead friends who will never do anything to further society's growth because they sit around all day smoking pot |

Weed being illegal does more harm then good. If it was legalized thats one less drug that cartels will make money off of. You could tax it, opens up new revenue blah, blah, blah. It is inevitable that weed will eventually be completely legal. It just doesn't make any sense if you think about it. |

There are alot of people who have addictive personalities so Marijuana and alcohol could be considered as gateway drugs that lead to the use of stronger drugs and/or negative consequences in life. They're definitely altogether not good towards the success in life. |

tonetone714 : If Marijuana was legalized, it could possibly become as bad a cigarettes. "Marijuana Companies" could lace it with whatever they wanted. You hear about drug dealers lacing weed with LSD or other heavy drugs, all the time. So only the hardcore potheads would still smoke it. Could you imagine that? If there were more chemicals pumped into Marijuana, the appeal of it would go down, and less people would smoke it. |

Zack Ate A Baby : I've never had weed laced with anything in my whole 7 years of smoking weed or actually heard of this happening or anyone I know. But there basically already are marijuana companies in California and they strive to be all natural, so I don't see them adding any chemicals to weed. But who knows. I just do the pros and cons of weed being illegal, and then do the pros and cons of weed being legal. And its pretty one-sided. |

I am totally against drugs, not only because they can kill you, there is just no point to them. Marijuana is a really tricky drug. I've heard do many mixed stories of it. I'm just against it because its a drug like any other. |

tonetone714 : I agree with but only to the extent that weed should be decriminalized at the very least. I think it's insane to send someone to jail for possession of weed. Illegal manufacture of weed should still be criminal, because the money is likely going towards other criminal activity...
but for the average person weed is pretty harmless.... much safer than alcohol, cigarettes, or harder drugs. but for the average person weed is pretty harmless.... much safer than alcohol, cigarettes, or harder drugs. |

I don't agree with the use of marajuana but I'm not going to judge someone else that uses it.
Now as for drugs like Cocain and Meth and Pain Pills, yeah I'm gonna judge. Drug heads who get hooked on crap like that not only take away from themselves, but they take away from their families as well. Most druggies wind up spending hundreds of dollars a week on the drugs; money that could be used to buy food for their families. As for Alchohol, I don't really see anything wrong with it as long as it's not used too much. Nothing ticks me off more than an alcoholic who beats up their family when they don't have a drink. But if it's consumed in moderation I'm not gonna get bent about it. I personally think that they're all a waste of money, but I'm only really against chemical and overly-used prescr Now as for drugs like Cocain and Meth and Pain Pills, yeah I'm gonna judge. I think that Medical marajuana is o.k, but I still don't thin I'd use it. Other Drugs such as Steroids are just TERRIBLE

Contrary to my screen name I really don't smoke much anymore, I smoked for five years, I had a lot of fun, but bleh whatever. I think it is definitely not for everyone, so you kind of have to know yourself. I was a total pothead, held two jobs and was on the honor roll all through school, made straight A's. So you can't just throw everyone into one lump group and say it's bad for everyone. Well, yes, it is bad to smoke but all things in moderation! It is also bad to have too much sun. Excess exposure to the UV rays from the sun is the leading cause of skin cancer. Obesity is the number one health risk in America! Obesity! Eating too much! What about Candy? Absolutely no nutritional value. You're just putting something unhealthy into your body anyways, right? Even though you know it's bad for you. You know why? Because you like it!
I'm going to move on to the medical side of Marijuana. It was first used in China and Thailand as an anesthetic, pain killer, for insomnia, to counteract diarrhea, and also to stimulate the appetite of people that are ill. Nowadays, well here in California, they have medical marijuana dispensaries all over, and it's used to ease the physical and mental pain of thousands. Example: To relieve nausea in patients with Leukemia going through Chemo therapy, or persons suffering from AIDS. Like I said before though, you really do have to know yourself and family history if possible. Marijuana has been known to have side effects on those with mental illnesses, and also with abuse of the drug. It can also effects your motor skills, learning abilities, short-term memory, and so on. Cigarettes are definitely bad! Another bad habit I picked up. I smoke filtered roll-your-own cigarettes which are additive free. This does not mean they are any better for you! In the long run smoking is smoking is smoking! I know it is no excuse, but (unless you drive a hybrid ) that the carbon monoxide (exhaust), which is poison, that comes out of you car is doing just as much damage to you, the environment, and everyone else. So smoke up! I am sooo kidding. Don't smoke. Seriously :/ Alcohol! I come from a long line of alcoholics. I'm not going to say that I'm one... But I drink rather frequently. They do say that a glass of red wine a day is supposed to help with digestion... but one glass is no fun. I think other that there is nothing good that comes from alcohol. You may get a few laughs out of it, but that is not worth the damage it does. It tears families apart, it physically dehydrates you brain, causes liver failure, fits of anger/depression, you get the point. As for hard drugs I have nothing to say. I dabbled in that world a little bit, but it changes people until they are unrecognizable. My whole family has struggled with drug addiction, and through the struggle and fight to be free of this addiction it did bring us closer together, but I'm glad that part of my life is over with. Wow. That was a mouth full. I'm going to move on to the medical side of Marijuana. No matter what something does to you wether its drugs or anything else if a man wants to roll it up,put it in a pipe,or melt it down, put it in a needle and stick it in his eyeball nobody else has the right to judge him for it.Neither do they have the right to tell him he CANT do it.your body is your personal property i dont believe anyone should have the right to have any say in how its alterd othet than the owner, and this includes causing harm.Like if someone on drugs if they hurt someone of course the fact that they were intoxicated should be taken into consideration during the determining of there punishment. But i dont think anyone could tell him no to get high in the first place.Period. |

I agree, but if you're under the influence and driving a car with your kids in the back seat that would be irresponsible! No one should be able to judge anyone else for what they do to themselves, but when it also puts other lives in danger, something should be done. It doesn't really matter in the end anyways, because no matter what the punishment people are always going to do whatever they want. |

i believe that if the government make all drugs illegal then more people are going to want to take them, as they get more of a "rush" as it is illegal and they enjoy the idea that they are getting away with breaking the law. If some of the less harmful drugs were legal then the idea of taking drugs to break the law will become less appealing and will eventually it will lose the appeal. I agree also with the idea of medicinal marijuana as it has helped some people with getting through difficult times in their lives when it has been affected by disease and our painful experiences. |

My thoughts on drugs...
Marijuana: I am for legalization, since like many of you said, criminalization of pot is just stupid. I cannot really add more to what has already been said. For the record, I don't use the stuff... any smoke makes me die... except for hookahs oddly enough, but contrary to popular belief, most pot-heads do not like dealing with hookahs for pot. The smell bugs the hell out of me anyway though. Tobacco: HATE IT! I have breathing problems because my parents smoked and I am most sad about leaving California because it is one of the only states that have anti-smoking laws to protect people from second-hand smoke. Still, criminalizing it would be stupid, I just ask people to stay away from me while they are smoking. Alcohol: I also come from a family of alcoholics, yet I enjoy a drink now and then. It really is about knowing yourself and your limits. Alcoholism is when you lose sight of that and let it control you. Research has proved that a glass of red wine, and even beer, can be good for your heart (not just digestion). The reason is that alcohol thins your blood and improves circulation, which is what causes that warm flush when you drink. Over-consumption is toxic, but so is over-consumption of damn near everything else. Hard Drugs: I can understand why some people feel the need to use them, but I do not agree with it or support it in any way. They do nothing but harm, and the escape they provide from the harshness of reality is false and temporary. I'm with gameface138 here.
Making drugs illegal is pretty ridiculous. It's the first step towards restricting what you can and cannot do with your own body. Removing freedoms that any free society should have. I will personally never do hardcore drugs that will cause me to become addicted, or permanently mess up my body or mind. However, there is no way I would restrict others from making that same choice. As far as crimes go: Punish people for committing crimes. If they do something illegal on drugs, punish them for it... But don't prevent them from putting whatever they want in their own bodies(Unless you no longer feel that we should own our own bodies, but rather should abdicate ownership to the government). Any free society should allow people to make up their own minds about this. Lastly, even recreational drugs do have benefits. Having hallucinated my mind out on salvia(a legal drug), I can tell you that it has changed the way I see myself, life, reality, morality and religion. And all of this was in a "good" way that has made me an overall happier person. Making drugs illegal is pretty ridiculous.
