I'd recommend Linebarrels of Iron, but of coarse I am biased. I've seen the entire 23 episodes so I know how the series is going to end but I still recommend. Any kind of Mecha anime is usually good, though the all the Gundam series are quite hard to follow without a great deal of time.

I know it's been a while since anyone's posted on this thread but my favorite anime are Higurashi no naku koro ni which is a horror, mystery, and has some comedy, Angel beats which was funny and sad, and Kuros***suji which is sort of horror I guess.

I recommend Elfen Lied. It's got comedy, fighting, and a bit of slice of life. I don't watch that much anime, but I really enjoyed this series, and it's short enough that you can watch the whole thing in a few days, less than 20 episodes I think. Chobits is good too, if you really like slice of life. Since you've watched lucky star, I think you might be able to watch Chobits.

Some anime that I haven't seen the entire series of, but that looked really interesting, is Speedgrapher and Requiem from the Darkness. Speedgrapher is a lot of fighting, and Requiem is a sort of mystery/horror with a really cool animation style, sort of 3D and cell shaded and times, but is actually 2D and anime. I don't know, I can't describe it. It's just really cool to look at, lol.

Death Note (if you haven't already seen it), Neon Genesis Evangelion and Elfen Lied are the first three animes I suggest to anybody. They are all on the darker side and more serious, but I think you'll like them. They are my favorites besides FMA.
