I like Typhlosion, merely for old times' sake. It depends which generation you are playing in though. In generation I-III, Typhlosion could use Thunderpunch or Earthquake to kill everything, with Thunderpunch coming from Typhlosion's decent Special. Of course, it wouldn't work after the Physical- Special split, so it's effectiveness wouldn't be as great.
I know that Typhlosion probably wouldn't win in a battle, but it's hard to tell. It depends on the held item, the moveset, and if Typhlosion's Focus Blast hits or not, but I think that Typhlosion could pull out the victory.

Have to pick Tysphlosion on this one, he is the bomb. My Tysphlosion in Gold was the first one I trained to Lv90 legitimately, and he sweeped Red's team single-handedly. I have always loved Gen 2 starters, the only Generation I loved all 3 starters (I really have never liked Venusaur that much, but he's OK.)
