It's been a long time since I've reviewed a game but the chance for double CP today has made me decide to come back and I certainly could of chose an easier game to review cause I have to review 2 games in one with this one I'll give ratings for each and then explain how I came to my conclusion for each part.

Graphics

Sonic Generations
The original game came out in 2011 and while I wouldn't say it looked awful for the time or anything it was a downgrade from Sonic Unleashed which I guess is because of the frame drops in that game but it's disappointing to take a step back in the graphics department. As for this remaster it runs at 4K 60 FPS and is the best looking version of the game.

6/10

Shadow Generations
For the first time in a while I feel like Sonic Team was actually trying to make a game look really nice and it definitely does it well while I liked how Frontiers could look there was low quality textures in the overworld quite often that could be distracting but I'm happy to say this is not an issue with Shadow Generations.

8/10

With a 6/10 and a 8/10 I feel that the only correct way to go is to go in between and say...
Graphics 7/10

Sound

I don't think it's worth separating the categories the soundtracks are almost entirely remixes and really good remixes as well. The only thing that gave me pause with rating this 10/10 is the voice acting but I do think overall I'm willing to give it a 10 because the newly rerecorded lines for Sonic Generations is pretty good for the most part and I have no issue with the voice acting in Shadow Generations.

Addictive

Once again no point in separating the 2 games something the boost gameplay thrives on is making it fun to try again and again to beat your best time and these games probably do it the best with the not too difficult to beat but hard to master mindset. Sonic Generations might not hook you as much considering how easy it is to S rank all the levels without trying all that hard but you can still get really into trying different skills and seeing how it helps you improve your time. Shadow Generations makes S ranks somewhat difficult for the first time in quite a while where the later levels you will likely have to try a bunch of different ideas on where hidden routes could be to make the time for that elusive S rank. So while they handle it somewhat differently I find them to be very addictive and the levels highly replayable.

Addictive 10/10

Story

Sonic Generations
Sonic arrives to his birthday party just for the time eater to arrive and throw everyone into white space and it's up to Sonic to save them. That's pretty much the gist of it the lines did get rewrote for the remaster and I don't find any of the changes great or really ruining it either so they changed the lines is all I can really say. I do think more should of been done with this story and having the cast think back on the adventures they had been on with all these levels coming back they do it some at the start but then just drop it.

4/10

Shadow Generations
Shadow is once again feeling haunted by his past and goes to the space colony to investigate suspecting the Black Arms have returned. While I won't dive into it anymore than that for spoiler reasons the main thing that separates the plot of these 2 games is in Sonic Generations it feels like an excuse to have the game while in Shadow Generations it is strongly related to Shadow and his past with great character moments throughout.

8/10

I hate that Sonic Generations had to lower this to only a 6/10 but I feel that's only fair with the 2 ratings.

Story 6/10

Depth

Sonic Generations
In Sonic Generations there are 2 acts per zone with 9 zones so 18 Main levels in the game and 90 challenge acts, as well as 6 boss fights with each boss having a normal and hard mode. The levels are split between Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic with Classic Sonic levels being entirely from a 2D perspective and Modern Sonic going between 3D and 2D segments in the levels. This gives you a lot of content to engage with if you choose to but if you go only the main acts you can beat the game within 6 or so hours without much effort.

8/10

Shadow Generations
In Shadow Generations there are 2 acts per zone once again but only 6 zones this time so 12 levels and it also has less challenge acts with a count of 30, 20 of which is required to beat the game. There is 4 boss fights once again featuring a normal and hard mode and this time hard mode really brings it and will challenge you if you want to S rank them. The game's hub world White Space also features challenges to unlock stuff like art galleries and more songs. Even if you spend time doing challenges in the hub as you came across them finishing the game only takes about 3-5 hours.

6/10

If you wanted to do everything the games have to offer you can likely get 30 to 40 hours out of the games. I personally spent 44 hours playing them but I know some of my time is just speed running levels and seeing if I can get a better time.

Depth 7/10

Difficulty

Sonic Generations
There's not much to challenge you in this game and the ranking system has taken pity on us giving out S Ranks like they're candy.

4/10

Shadow Generations
While not horribly difficult if you choose to go after S Ranks you will be challenged far more with this game and S ranking the hard mode bosses is one of the hardest things a Sonic game has ever asked me to do.

6/10

If you didn't care about anything but main story this probably is more like a 3 or a 4 but I'll go with a 5 for total difficulty across the board.

Difficulty 5/10

Overall

Sonic Generations
This is a fantastic Sonic game an amazing celebration of the first 20 years of the blue blur and a game I can always come back to and enjoy.

9/10

Shadow Generations
After the poor reception of Shadow The Hedgehog 05 and with how they did Episode Shadow as a DLC for Sonic Forces I never thought we'd get another Shadow focused game like this and while it's on the shorter side this is a contender for my favorite Sonic game of all time it does an amazing job with Shadow's character and the gameplay additions of the Doom powers actually being fun additions compared to past games with wisps and other distractions. I was so hyped following news of this game till it's release knowing we'd be getting stuff from my favorite era of the series and remixes of some of my favorite songs I have almost no complaints with this game except wishing it was longer.

10/10

Well with a 9/10 and a 10/10 I guess the only thing left to say is I really recommend this game if your new to the series as a great entry point and I give it a 9.5/10!
