How are these the only options? My vote goes for 1.7 or 1.8 probably I'm a big fan of the biomes added in 1.7 but I also know 1.8 is iconic for being the last update with a good combat system. I'm also pretty nostalgic for 1.4 and 1.6 I think? Console was on one of those back when I started playing. Of the options you've given I will say it's the nether update.

Dauntez : No the 1.9 combat especially the 1.9 combat is awful I'll meet you halfway and agree with recent changes like I think the mace? I don't remember for sure but I know my cousin was showing me some crazy new stuff you could do that I will agree there's an argument for the newer combat now but back when it's pretty much just block sword use axe to disable shield special arrows/crossbow no it does not have the complexity of fighting with a rod or with snowballs where you could properly combo if you think of 1.8 combat as just spamming your not looking at it right and even without a rod there was W tapping and strafing to consider compared to the new slower combat it's night and day.

Dauntez : Most of what you just said is true about 1.8 pvp idk what specifically DiaSMP is but there's been tons of servers in the past and I know the biggest server in the world still has 1.8 pvp with bows and webs and potions and water and lava buckets and sure with a bow now you can block with a shield but you can always just dodge also they messed up the bow trajectory in 1.9 or maybe a later version it will never feel right to me in the newer versions. I've got nothing but positive feelings on seeing the mace I guess if I wanted to be really nitpicky I could say bouncing in the air over and over is far from how minecraft pvp used to and probably should be but it's very difficult and rewarding to do so I see no issue with it.

I love caves ad cliffs, Minecraft's old caves and mountains where really boring and just too small for my like. Caves and Cliffs 100% changed the game more then any of the other updates on the list I see. I fear for the next update, seems like a mod to me, I have been hearing a lot of other people talking about it ya know?
