While not a boat, the BYD YangWang U8 is a (soon to be) mass produced vehicle that can drive on water, easily transitioning from dry to wet zones.

Is this the future that we wanted? Are car-boats the future? Would you buy a car that could do this?

I feel like this is a solution to a problem that really doesn't exist, but it is really cool.

I cannot think of a single use for this lol. We have bridges. We have boats. I think we've already got water transportation figured out.

First of all, this is by no means the future. The Amphicar of 1961 was perfectly capable of going as good in the water as in the dry, and it wasn't anything expensive or luxurious. I saw one myself from up-close and while a fun thing to have, it was simply that: fun to have.

I don't see why an amphibian car would be of any use beyond being fun. I sincerely doubt it can be as fast or comfortable in the water than any boat you can get for its price. More than that, if you can afford such a car then you definitely can afford a boat. Not sure someone thought it could be a good idea.

I sincerely hope it's not fully electric or we can have amphibian tanks with nothing to propel them floating around our water streams, going/ending who knows where. And imagine how ironic would it be to catch fire while on the water.
