Bowser's Koopa Troop has given us some notable characters such as Pom Pom, Boom Boom, Koopa Troopas, Hammer Bros, Sumo Bros, Lakitu's, Spines, dry bones, Buzzy and Chargin Churcks, also spelled as Charging Chucks in some countries. Indeed, charging Chucks have become nearly staples in Mario Games.

Chargin, or Charging Chucks, made their debut in Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. In this game they severed in may rolls. They would try to charge right into Mario or Luigi, throw baseballs at the brothers, throw projectiles at the brothers, and kick footballs or other types of balls at the brothers. They also guarded the goal posts that the brothers needed to cross to advance to the next level. Sometimes they would be in complete random places. Moreover, they served as guards in the fortress stages.

In future games they appeared mainly serving as guardians in castles. On the other hand, they where seen in stages once again serving as an obstacle to the player. In their latest game they went back to being similar to how they where in Super Mario World serving in different roles. In some booklets and versions of the games they appear in, it states these heavy hitters are used as Bowser's shock troops. Moreover, they also appear to serve in the infantry as well.

They also appear in some of the Mario Party games. In the games they appear in the players have to dodge their attacks or risk being eliminated form that particular game. In another game the player must survive no more than 2 hits from them. Also, they have made cameo appearances training such as lifting weights or running a treadmill.

Appearance- When they first made their debut they had green and orange armor. Their chest protector was cream colored. Their helmets appeared to be white, orange, and green. However, in recent games their armor has been changed to blue and white. They have a tan or cream color chest pad/protector. Their jerseys and pants appear to be blue. While their helmets are white. In addition, when they do not have their armor on it is revealed they have blue hair. Outside of their armor they resemble the Sumo Bros. In some ways they resemble certain versions of the Hammer Bros. It should be noted their shell appears to be a dark blue or potentially navy blue.

As stated they have blue hair. But they slightly tall in height. They are also stocky and have a round face. Again similar to a Sumo Bros.

Personality- They take their roles seriously. They are eager to stop Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi. They seem to enjoy running over Mario and his friends. It is also hinted they boast on how tough they are and how normal attacks will not hurt them. Therefore, they come across as having an attitude. But, this could be due to their roles as guardians. Like all Koopas they are loyal to Bowser and his family.

In the Mario Party Games they love running over the players and knocking them out of the particular game they appear in. In some games they even laugh after knocking out a player. As their name implies they enjoy playing sports and they do have fun while playing sports. They mainly like to play American Football and baseball.

Abilities- They are tough enemies to beat. They can throw baseballs at Mario and his Friends, kick footballs or throw them, and they can throw rocks as well. Their main ability is to use their armor to try to run over Mario and his friends. They can also control and guard the goal posts. Another trait Charging Chucks have is they can split into clones of themselves. This makes it even more difficult for them to be defeated.

Their greatest ability is their durability. It takes a lot of jumps, and fireballs to defeat them. They can also not be eaten by Yoshi. Despite being bulky they are also very quick on their feet as well as good jumpers. In addition, they love to use their weight as an advantage. Basically, they have both speed and power.

Attacks/Moves- Their main attack is to charge right into their opponents hence their name. Their thick armor and weight means the collision usually works in their favor. They are very athletic and can throw baseball or footballs at their opponents. Also, they can kick footballs at their opponents. Sometimes they will even throw rocks at their opponents. Moreover, they can split up to three clones. The clones function the same way as a normal charging chuck. They can increase their numbers to help aid them. When they are serving in Bowser's infantry they mainly hurl projectiles at their targets. While it is not an attack they can manipulate the goal post tape. They can make it higher or lower. Sometimes if well timed they can do a sneak attack even after Mario, Luigi or Yoshi have cleared the level. Even though, it is never shown in any games, given that they have shells. It is believed without their armor they can hide in their shell and launch it at their opponents like most Koopas can.

Weaknesses- They can be defeated by jumping attacks, but it takes 3 solid jumps to knock one out. Also it takes several fireballs or ice pellets to knock them out. It will also take multiple egg shots to knock them out as well. They are weak to POW blocks and star power. POW or Star power will defeat them instantly. Otherwise the player will need to be well timed to get three hits on them or three jumps on them. The player will also hope they do not split into clones.

Overall, Charging Chucks are some of the toughest Koopas similar to the Hammer Bros. Their helmets and thick armor makes them immune to certain attacks. While they can be defeated it often takes 3 or more hits to defeat them. It is no wonder that they serve as guardians, shock troops, and infantry. They also are very athletic as they can run fast and jump. They have mastered every sport including football, baseball, soccer, golf, and even basketball. The sports they are the best at are football and baseball though. Since they laugh when they have knocked a Mario Party member out of a game it is hinted they love playing spoiler. In addition, they love to train for everything. It is shown they train for athletics but they are also train how to be efficient troops for Bowser.

Like the Hammer, and Sumo Bros Mario, and Luigi have stated how tough these guys are due to their defense and offense. I had just gotten into baseball when Super Mario World came out. I really thought it was nicely done that they made a Koopa that was athletic and played multiple sports. As a football and baseball fan I thought this was nicely done. The Charging Chucks along with the Hammer Bros and even Sumo Bros are some of my favorite koopa enemies.

In conclusion, Charging chucks are very formidable opponents. They are tough due to their physical abilities and how they can withstand certain attacks. It is no wonder that Bowser has them in important roles such as guarding his castle and being an obstacle to Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi.
