Hammer Bro sometimes referred to Hammer Brothers have been staples in the Mario franchise. They made their debut in the first Mario Brothers game and have been staples ever since. There are different types of Hammer Bros. I will be honest they are one of my favorite enemies from the Mario franchise. I have been eager to do a biography on the Hammer Bros, so that day has finally come.

Hammer Bros are elite members of the Koopa Army. They sometimes serve as platoon leaders of Bowser's Koopa Troop. Bowser trusts them completely and they are very loyal to him, Bowser Jr, and the Koopalings. Even Mario, Luigi, and Yoshii admit they are tough soldiers.

As stated they made their debut in the first game helping Bowser kidnap the Princess. They are seen in pairs and in the booklet referred to as Hammer Brothers. In this game their main objective is to slow Mario and Luigi down. As their name implies they throw hammers at Mario or Luigi , jump at them and even chase them.

In Super Mario Brothers 3 they return once again to throw hammers at the brothers. However, their family tree is revealed. In Super Mario Bros 3 more versions of them are shown to exists. Boomerang Brothers, Fire Brothers, Sledge, a reference to sledge hammer, brothers. They serve Bowser and his nice and nephews the Koopalings.

In Super Mario World another version of them exists super flying hammer bro. This version was dressed in a winter coat, rode a flying block, and threw hammers at the players.

In Paper Mario the Hammer Brothers where back seen guarding Princess Peach, attacking Mario and his friends, and serving as Bowser's elite guards. Once again they threw hammers, jumped, and chased Mario just like they did in the first game. In this game they could also go into their shells and try to ram Mario and his friends.

In Paper Mario II they are seen guarding Bowser's castle. When Bowser summons his army. They are seen with Koopa Troopas behind them showing they are indeed Platoon leaders. It should be noted one Hammer Bros appeared in the Glitz Pit as a top fighter he is ranked #3 of all fighters. He is shown to be a formidable opponent as he summons his brothers to help him.

In the New Super Mario Brothers they appeared to serve their many different roles. Overall, they help Bowser in his schemes, serve as guardians of his castle, serve as platoon leaders, and attack Mario and his friends. But in these games a new type of Hammer Bros is revealed Ice Hammer Bros. Ice Hammer Bros throw ice pellets and hammers at Mario and his friends. When Bowser kidnaps Peach he often takes several Hammer Brothers with him.

The main Hammer Bro character is a playable character in some Mario Party games. This Hammer Bros has his own dice block the player can move up to 5 places with him. He also looks like he has fun playing the games.

Appearance- The regular Hammer Bros is a golden color Koopa that wears a green helmet, has a green shell, has a golden tail, and wears yellow boots. In some games they have black instead of green on. In addition, sometimes they also wear blue helmets instead of green or they will wear green helmets with blue stripes. In this case they will also have a blue strip on their shell. The fire version is red with a black helmet and shell. Ice Brothers are blue or golden with blue for their armor. Moreover, they are tall as they are taller than a Koopa Troopa. They are taller than Mario and shown to be almost the same height as Luigi.

Personality- The Hammer Bros takes their roles seriously. They know they are elite soldiers and have responsibilities. They are shown to be bold in their personality. In addition, they mainly serve Bowser and want to please him. Moreover, they also give orders to Koopa Troopas like a typical sergeant.

They are also confident in their abilities. In some games they tell Mario feel the wrath of my hammer. Another quote is my hammer will smash you to pieces. Even if Mario is defeated they are shown to boast that they may have slowed him down.

In Paper Mario it is revealed that they do like to have fun once in awhile. In one instance they played a trivia game with Peach. In another scene two Hammer Bros where telling each other how Bowser had a crush on Peach, but they did not want to Bowser to hear what they where saying. They also talked how funny it was. Bowser was standing behind them telling them it did think it was funny which they where shocked. This implies that they love gossip, or love to tell stories outside of duty.

As I stated they appear as playable characters in the Mario Party Games. One is featured as a playable character. Once again it looks like he is having fun. This goes along with the characters playing games in Paper Mario outside of Duty. Thus, it is once again hinted they like to play games.

Abilities- Hammer Bros has several abilities. They are very fast and quick. They can throw an unlimited supply of hammers, fireballs, ice pellets, and sledge hammers at Mario and his friends. They are also shown to be fast runners as they will sometimes chase Mario and his friends.

Attack- As their name implies they throw unlimited supply of hammers at Mario. They can throw their hammers short range or long distance. In fact, they often throw their hammers in bunches. The fire version will throw unlimited supply of fireballs, while the ice version throws ice pellets. In addition, they can often jump at Mario and his friends. They are shown to be high jumpers even jumping as high as Luigi can. Furthermore, they are fast and will even chase Mario and his friends.

While they often confront Mario and his friends head on. They are shown to sneak up on the heroes in some games. In this case they do ambush attacks. Also, in other games not only can they throw their hammers, but they can hid in their shells trying to ram into their opponents. Moreover, in some games they can even create shock-waves when they jump stunning their opponents.

Weaknesses- The regular Hammer Bros can be defeated with 3 fireballs, a pow block, and star power. Also Yoshii can defeat them by throwing usually two eggs at them. For the Fire Hammer Bros they are immune to fireballs. The fire version can only be defeated by star power or a pow block. The ice version can be defeated like a regular Hammer Bros.

Relationships These are the allies of the Hammer Bros

Bowser- Bowser trusts them to be his guards, platoon leaders, and to aid him in his schemes. He may not show it but he cares about them. The Hammer Bros look up to Bowser and want to please him in whatever role he assigns them too.

Bowser Jr- They help look after Bowser Jr, and they also serve him. This is due to him being the heir to Bowser's empire. They also want to please him as they do his father.

Koopalings- The Koopalings are Bowser Niece and Newphews. They often have Hammer Bros as their sergeants leading troops. They also look up to them as well.

Koopa Troopas- They often lead Koopa Troopas in battles. They give orders to them as a typical platoon leader would. On the other hand, they are shown to call them comrades.

King Boo and other Bowser allies- They have not appeared alongside King Boo. But given how he is a strong ally to Bowser it is safe to say they are allies with him.

Enemies-

Mario- Mario often has to get past them to get to Bowser. There main role is to serve as an obstacle to him. They do not like Mario as he messes up their masters plans. Still, they respect the legendary hero.

Luigi- Like Mario they serve as an obstacle toward Luigi. Like his brother they do not like him because he messes up their Masters Plan.

Yoshii- Yoshii is another enemy to them. He helps the brothers in their quests to defeat Bowser. Like the brothers Yoshii has messed up Bowser's plans.

Birdo- Because they are enemies to Yoshii this means they are enemies to Yoshii's girlfriend Birdo.

Peach- They have a complex relationship with Peach. Bowser often takes the Hammer Bros with him when he kidnaps her. The Hammer Bros are seen guarding Peach in Bowser's Castle. Despite helping Bowser kidnap her, and guarding her when she gets captured they do not hurt her. In fact, they are shown to enjoy playing games with her. Still, though she is ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and they understand they need to capture her like a prisoner of war so their master can take over the kingdom.

Neutral Toward

Wario- They are not really enemies to Wario but they are not allies. When Wario teams up with the heroes they will attack him like they do the others. In one game they state they have no quarrel with Wario.

Sports Stats

They are shown to be good at Tennis as they have excellent arm strength. They are shown to be good at golf as well. Due to their arm strength they can hit the ball a long way. In addition, in the baseball games they are shown to have good defense abilities and good offense abilities. They have excellent home run power. At the Olympic Games they are shown to be well rounded.

Overall, the Hammer Bros is an elite soldier in Bowser's Army. They are tough opponents to beat. This is due to their short and long range hammer attacks. Also, they can jump real high, chase, and do ambush attacks. For this reason Mario and Luigi even admit they are elite and tough opponents to defeat. Defeating one requires skills. Also to make maters worse for the heroes they are sometimes multiple hammer bros at one time.

In conclusion, this is one of my favorite enemies. I like these guys because they can throw hammers and their different attacks. I also like it that not only can they throw hammers but different versions can throw fire as well as ice. In future games I was glad to see they have their own personality and are playable in Mario Party Games. When me and my friends would play the Mario Party Games I played as a Hammer Bros, Yoshii, or Shy Guy.

The Hammer Bros are formidable opponents that are versatile. It is no wonder that Bowser trust them in so many roles. As I stated they serve as guards, platoon leaders, and help Bowser in his schemes. There are also several versions of this character, which I have mentioned. While they work for Bowser. They are shown to have fun when they are not on duty. They like to have a good time, play games, or even fight in fighting rings. Still, when called upon their personality switches from having a good time, to serious no nonsense type. This concludes the Hammer Bros Biography.
