Sushie is a character that first appeared in Paper Mario also known as Paper Mario One. She proved to be a valuable ally for Mario in his quest to rescue Peach, restore the Star Rod, and defeat Bowser. Her and other characters helped Mario accomplish his mission, so lets learn about her.

Sushie leaves on Lavalava Island near the active volcano Mount LavaLava. She appears to be an elder to the Island. The Island Chief and Raphael the Raven trust her. She would often serve as the go to person before the natives when to the Chief or Raphael the Raven. In addition, she appears to be a guardian of the volcano entrance as she would only let those that have permission from the Chief or Raphael Pass. The Island Chief trusts her in doing so and serving as an Elder.

However, her main job seems to be watching over the Yoshii children. Most of the children look up to her. But there is a group of 5 Yoshii's called the fearsome 5 that are full of mischief. When Mario first encounters her she lets him pass to the volcano because he has permission to do so. Although, she scolds him for wanting to enter a dangerous place. When Mario comes back, as he could not fully get inside the volcano, she ask him to help her find the fearsome 5 as they ran in the Jungle. She explains to Mario that despite her best efforts they outran her. She also explains because the 5 are young they do not know how to defend themselves against danger.

Mario finds the 5 yoshii's who apologize to Sushie for running away. When Mario reveals to her that he needs to get inside of the volcano to help retrieve a star spirit and to help rescue peach, Sushie decides to accompany Mario. Thus, she joins his party to aid in his quest to rescue peach and defeat Bowser.

She helps Mario defeat Bowser. At the end of the game it is revealed that Peach is going to throw a victory party. Sushie along with the other helpers are invited to the party for helping Mario rescue the princess.

Appearance- She is listed as being a Cheep-Cheep a species of fish in the Mario series that can fly, swim and function on land. On the other hand, she also resembles a squirt fish. Squirt Fish first appeared in Yoshii's Island and can spray water but also have the same features as the Cheep-Cheeps. Regardless, she has a purple body with a yellow belly. She has orange fins and orange points on her back. Her back fins are also orange. Her wings appear to be white.

Personality- It is revealed that Sushie has two personalities. At first she comes across as being bossy. The Fearsome 5 state she is always bossy and spoiling their fun. However, this is a parent-child relationship as she is just trying to look after them. On the other hand, she scolded Mario at first, even though he had permission from the chief, in trying to visit the volcano. She revealed to Mario that another explorer went in there as well, but she let him pass due to him having permission.

She appears to be respected among the natives as she is the go to person before the higher ups. She takes her roles very seriously. She is also eager to help those in need.

Her other part of her personality is that she is a softy when it comes to romance and her family. She stated how Mario and Peach's story was so romantic. When Mario revealed to her that he needed to go into the volcano to help save Peach. She got emotional saying their love story was romantic and that she would help him in his quest. After she showed emotion she told Mario that she was a big softy when it came to romance stories. In addition she really cares for her family. It is revealed that she has a daughter who is fixing to give birth. Thus, Sushie was excited about being a grandmother and got teary eyed at the thought of that.

Abilities- Being A cheep-Cheep Sushie has lungs that she can breath when she is on dry land. She also has gills that she can breath when she is in the water. It is also likely she can fly as she has wings but she chooses not to do so. On the other hand, she is like a squirt fish as she can shoot water from her mouth. She is fast in the water and Mario can even ride her to travel between Islands. On land she is not as fast.

Moves- Sushie has some valuable moves that can help Mario in battles. She can use her weight to do a belly flop on enemies to do damage. Her main attack is blasting enemies with powerful streams of water that she can spray from her mouth. When using this as a power attack she can create multiple streams of water to hit multiple enemies. In addition, she can temporarily surround Mario with a water shield in battle, though it only last for a few minutes.

Allies- These are the characters she is friends with.

The Chief- The Chief trusts her to serve as an elder, guardian and to look after the children. She looks up to the Chief and highly respects him.

Raphael the Raven- Raphael trusts her to assist the Chief and she highly respects him. He respects her for what she does.

The Yoshii Children- Most of the young Yoshii's obey her as they know she is trying to take care of them. However, the fearsome 5 give her problems due to their antics and mischief. Sushie comes across as being bossy to them but only because they are not old enough to defend themselves. Once Mario rescued them from the Jungle they apologized for their actions which Sushie accepted.

Mario- At first she thought Mario despite his legendary status was being reckless by going into the volcano, but she had to let him pass due to him having permission. Still she said his actions where reckless. However, this changed when Mario helped her round up the fearsome 5. Also when she learned Mario was going to rescue Peach she decided to help him in his quest joining his party.

Peach- She likes Peach and looks up to Peach. When she realized Peach had been captured. She told Mario that was another reason to join his party was so she could help rescue Peach.

Kolorado- She is friends with Kolorado. He was the first explorer she scolded for entering the volcano. She told the famous explorer and archaeologist that he was reckless and a fool for going into a dangerous spot. Still, she respected the famous Koopa and even helped him find the treasure he was seeking.

Other Helpers- She is friends with the other party members and helpers as she gets along well with them.

Enemies- These are characters she is not friends with.

Bowser- She does not like Bowser because his earthquake effected LavaLava Island. She also does not like it that he stole the star rod and once again kidnapped Peach.

Bowser Minions- She does not like Bowser's Minions because they entered the volcano and started to tear it up. Also they imprisoned a star spirit in the process. She was eager to help clear the Volcano out of Bowser's Troops.

Jr Troopa- In some versions of the game she calls him an arrogant brat. She does not like him at all due to his antics.

Overall, Sushie on LavaLava Island has lots of roles and jobs. She can be trusted to do so. She also proves to be a valuable ally to Mario and his friends. Mario can use her to go from Island to Island. She also proves to be effective in battle.

Even though it says she is a cheep-cheep it is highly speculated she may actually be a squirt fish. The reason being she can shoot water like the squirts can. Another theory is that she is a hybrid between the cheeps-cheeps and squirt fish. This is very likely as she has characteristics of both. Regardless, she uses her abilities in an effective way.

She comes across as being bossy but this is just her job having to guard the entry way to the Volcano and having to look after the children. During the game she shows emotion such as when she realized Peach had been captured. She was also overcome with emotion when she realized she was going to be a grandmother.
