Mega Man X6 has several tragic characters. Rainy Turtleloid, Blizzard Wolfang, Commander Yammark, and Shield Sheldon. These characters started out as good guys before the events of Mega Man X6. Yet they where labeled mavericks, reploids that pose a danger to the world, in highly controversial manners. Shield Sheldon is one of those and his background and story is pretty tragic. So lets learn about this tragic character.

Shield Sheldon was created by Gate to be a body guard reploid. He had great defense capabilities. He was assigned by gate to guard some of the world's top people, reploids, and scientists. He had such an incredible record he was in high demand. He was an elite body guard.

He was eventually given the permanent body guard of reploid scientists Dr. Jim. Dr. Jim was a friend of Gate's as both where researchers. However, Dr. Jim became infected with the Maverick Virus. It is highly speculated these events took place around the events of Mega Man X4 or around X5. Dr. Jim started to pose a danger to the world. Sheldon was torn as his duty was to protect Dr. Jim, but his job was also to eliminate threats. Dr. Jim had not only become infected with the Sigma Virus but he was trying to do research on how to spread it. Sheldon decided he would take Jim out himself. Dr. Jim had also attracted the attention of the Maverick Hunters. The Hunters came upon Sheldon killing Dr.Jim. The Unit of Maverick Hunters where rookies and labeled Sheldon a maverick. Sheldon was horrified that he was not labeled a maverick and he escaped. He was in torment. He was felt like he failed at his job by not protecting Dr. Jim from becoming infected with the Sigma Virus. Thus, he was in torment that he could have done more. He was also in torment that he was now a maverick and labeled a criminal. Sheldon decided to commit suicide. He went to a remote place and did himself in. X and Zero, who where not leading the unit of hunters that visited Dr. Jim's lab, found the now deceased Maverick. After reading and analyzing data then X and Zero discovered why he did what he did.

Sometime later the events of X6 took place. When Gate became infected with the Sigma Virus. He resurrected some of his reploids that had been destroyed or sabotaged. Sheldon was one of the ones he resurrected. Sheldon was grateful for given a second chance. However, he swore to be Gate's body guard. Gate not only made him his body guard but told him to take over a laser lab as part of the nightmare investigation. X and Zero encountered him. Sheldon stated he knew the nightmare was wrong, but he was given a second chance. X and Zero apologize for not getting there in time to prevent him from being a maverick. He says he is sorry but he must engaged them in battle. He is aware that what Gate is doing is wrong as he asks the hunters to retire him in peace.

Appearance- Sheldon is based off of a clam. He has pink armor. He has two large shields that appear to be silver. Like most of Gate's reploids he has the signature horn on his forhead. He appears to be average height. However, due to his very thick armor his is heavy and very bulky.

Personality- Sheldon has a high sense of honor. He takes his job seriously and with pride. He takes pride that his duty is to provide protection. He also believed he was doing good in the world. In addition, he has a high sense of morality. When Dr. Jim went maverick he took him out to eliminate the threat. When he felt like his honor had been taken away he took himself out.

Even during the events of Mega Man X6 he maintained his original personality. Therefore, it is believed he was not infected with the Sigma Virus. He still has honor. He also still has morality as he tells X and Zero he knows what Gate is doing is wrong, but feels like he must serve him anyway. He apologizes to the two hunters. Moreover, he ask them to retire him so he can die in peace. This proves he knows what Gate is doing is wrong. Most likely he believes that if he is killed by the hunters it will liberate him from protecting Gate and being involved in his scheme.

Abilities- Due to have thick armor he is able to withstand certain weapons. Not only does this protect Sheldon from attacks but he can use it to protect others. His shields can also be used for defense and offense. He is shown to have the ability to use lasers. He has great reads as he can sense evil. Despite being bulky he can glide and float.

Attacks- Sheldons attacks are both defense and offense. He can throw his shields at opponents doing damage. The shields will return to him like a boomerang. He can also hide in his shields and bounce around colliding with opponents. His thick armor makes the collision work in his favor.

He has offensive attacks too. He can charge his shields. In this attack his shields will shoot laser beams at opponents. He can glide and float around shooting lasers. He can also create a clone or hologram of himself. He can use his hologram to shoot lasers at opponents.


Weakness- Sheldon is weak to the metal anchor weapon. The anchor weapon pierces his tough armor. However, he has to throw or drop his shield first. Despite his ability to float and glide he is not very fast. His thick bulky armor slows him down. It is possible a well place dash can allow some of his attacks to be dodged.

Overall, Shield Sheldon is a tragic figure like some of his fellow Gate reploids. His was misunderstood as he was labeled a maverick in a highly controversial manner. The rookie unit did not look at the facts they jumped to conclusions. Thus he felt like he had no way out but to take himself out. Also, unlike some of the other Gate Reploids like Infinity Minjion, Blaze Heat, Ground Scarvich, and Metal Shark he is not evil. Instead he is more like Rainy Turtleloid, and Blizzard Wolfang who where also labeled mavericks in a controversial manner. That is why they are considered tragic characters.

Even when he is brought back to life. He feels remorse for what Gate is doing, but feels like it is his duty to serve him. X and Zero feel remorse for destroying him. The two maverick hunters also felt remorse for destroying Turtlelod, and Wolfang. In some versions of the game X and Zero state some of these deaths could be prevented did we really have to destroy them. It is also hinted that Sheldon may have been held against his will in serving Gate. Similar to how Storm Eagle was held against his will in Simga's rebellion.

In conclusion, he is a tragic character and like Storm Eagle, Magnet Centipede, Blizzard Buffalo, Volt Catfish, Neon Tiger, The Skyver, Turtleloid, Yammark, and Wolfang he is considered a victim in the maverick wars. This concludes the biography.
