Mega Man X5 had some interesting characters in the game. Some characters were meant to be victims. For these characters they were good guys who caught the Sigma Virus and asked to be taken down before they become a danger. X5 also had a few bosses in them that were scientists. Dr. Izzy Glow also known as Shining Firefly is a maverick that was a leading scientists in the game. So lets learn about him.

Appearance wise Dr. Izzy Glow is a fire fly. He is portrayed as having red and gray armor. His lower part of his body is a green light as he is a fire fly. He can charge his green light to shoot out laser beams. It is unclear if he originally had this ability or if he modified it himself to produce lasers.

Dr. Izzy Glow was created as a research reploid. In time he obtained doctor degrees in engineering and laser technology. He became the worlds leading expert on lasers. In fact, he even designed several types of lasers. He wanted to make the world a better place as he believed technology including lasers could be used for good. He also did not sell his devices to organizations that used or made weapons. He was afraid that some of his devices could be used against mankind and reploids. Thus, he was very protective of his devices and made sure organizations that used his inventions where vetted. He also invented a laser device that could help the laser weapon the hunters possessed. However, tragedy struck. When Sigma sent the space colony to crash into earth, and scattered the Sigma Virus across the earth. His researchers started to become mavericks. He even became a maverick himself. The Sigma Virus made Dr. Izzy Glow aggressive and changed his mind making him insane. He challenged X and Zero and was destroyed.

Personality Wise: Dr. Izzy Glow takes his role as a scientists seriously. He is proud of his work and very protective of it. He is shown to be a great researcher and has a brilliant mind. He can also be very stubborn this is a strength and a weakness. Its a strength because it has helped him in is work keeping his work from falling into the wrong hands. On the other hand, it has hampered him. He refuses to help anyone he suspects might be working for police organizations like the hunters. Even though the Maverick Hunters are good guys and would not use his weapons wrong. He refuses to help X and Zero of course this can be due to being infected. On the other hand, he also did not want Sigma to get his hands on any weapons either. Based on conversations he is well aware of how evil Sigma is.

He is also anti-social. His research lab is very hidden and away from everybody. Izzy Glow is not very social as he focuses so much on his work. He is also not very trusting. He does not trust anybody not even X or Zero. In addition, he is also anti war. He does not want to give his devices to anybody that makes weapons. He wants his work to be used for good not weapons. Him being anti war could mean he has been around a while. This means he may have seen the tragic war between the hunters, Repliforce and Sigma play out.

Here are his conversations with X and Zero.

X encountered for the 1st time

Izzy Glow: Why have you come here and how did you get in
X: This lab was severely infected by the Sigma Virus this was the only way in.
Izzy Glow: Hmmph you hunters are all alike. My work is not for Hunters or Sigma.I trust neither. I want cooperate with you.
X: I don't have time to argue with you
Izzy Glow: My body has already been infected. I know I'm wrong but my mind is made up now fight me Maverick Hunter.

X (Second Time)
Izzy Glow: Woah I feel dizzy I feel something in my mind telling me to attack you. I don't want too but I have lost control due to the Sigma Virus.
X: Doctor come to the Hunter Base maybe we can save you.
Izzy glow: Its too late Die Maverick Hunter
X: No he has become a maverick. Don't worry I will make this quick for you doctor.

Zero (First Time)
Zero. Dr. Izzy Glow will you do us a favor?
Izzy Glow: I will not cooperate with you. I don't trust you or sigma. But I have already been infected. I may just decide to analyze your DNA. Now fight me Zero.

Zero (Second Time)
Zero : Doctor, oh no I'm too late he has turned maverick
Izzy Glow: Yes you are. I have been infected and I'm now a maverick. I am destined to be killed by you, so I will fight you even though I will lose.

The conversations back up his personality traits. He is stubborn for his own good. You can see how he was once a good guy but the virus is making him insane. Despite being anti war he actually can be a tough opponent.

Attack: Dr. Izzy Glow can be a tough opponent he has multiple attacks to attack the player. Teleport Tackle. Izzy glow will teleport to the other side of the room and try to tackle the player. Flash Laser is Izzy Glow's main attack. He will fire a homing laser drone at the player. The laser is very bright. His other powerful attack is the prism laser. Dr. Izzy Glow will fire a prism of laser beams from his lower body. He can also charge the laser as well. Prism Shot, he fires a device on the floor and pulls lasers toward them then releases them back at the player.

His weakness is electricity. The electric weapon will stun him and damage his lasers. It is likely the lightning from the electric weapon fries his lasers given how quickly he does down when is weakness is used against him. Also while his attacks are powerful they are meant for defense. His is not good on offense and leaves himself open to hit him with his weakness. Him having poor offense could also be due to the fact that he was against war and only believed in force for self defense purposes.

Given how X and Zero tried to save him before having to kill him likely means they respected the doctor. Ironically, they were going to try to save him despite him not trusting them. In a way his own stubbornness lead to his downfall. Even though he was in the early stages and might have been able to be saved. He still refused to give the hunters his laser device. However, this could have been due to the virus. In addition, he could be considered another victim like Squid Adler, the Skiver, and to some extend Axle the Red. Squid, Skiver and Izzy Glow were good guys before the virus made them aggressive. Axle was not so much a good guy but due to being born out of a mutation he was targeted by everybody.

As I stated he was one of the scientists in Mega Man X5. Squid Adler is considered a scientists since he ran a research lab, studied electricity and could produce electricity. Izzy Glow was a scientists inventing things and designing lasers. Also like Adler, and the Skiver he wanted to do good for both humans and reploids. Anyway this concludes my biography.
