Smoke is a Mortal Kombat Character that has become a popular character in the Mortal Kombat games. Like most similar looking characters Smoke is a Ninja. Who is this ninja, well lets learn about him.

Smoke, whose real name is Tomas Vrbada) is a fighter and ninja from the Mortal Kombat Franchise. He made his debut in Mortal Kombat II as a secret character and later an unlockable one. His appearance is similar to Scorpion and Sub-Zero. He usually has a gray costume on and is usually has clouds of smoke around him.

Not much is known about his history when he was a younger. He was born in the Czech Republic in the city of Prague. At some time he developed Ninja skills and had the skill of using smoke. At first, it was unclear if he learned how to master smoke or if he was born with that ability like Sub-Zero was to ice and Scorpion with Fire. In later games it was revealed he was a special person born with the ability to control and use smoke. Thus he was an enenra. Most likely he came from a line of Ninja's that could use this power. Again similar to how Scorpion came from a line of warriors/ninjas that can use fire, and sub-zero comes from a line of ice warriors/ninjas. When travel between Earth known as Earth-realm and Outworld became possible. He entered outworld. He was recruited by the Lin Kuei Ninja Clan. He quickly rose in their ranks becoming a top assassin along with his best friend Sub-Zero.

In Mortal Kombat II him along with the Lin Kuei served Shang T'sung. It was rumored that smoke was T'Sung's body guard. This also meant they were working for Shao Kahn. However, Smoke along with Sub-Zero as well as others realized how evil Kahn and T'sung where so they left and joined Earth-realm's warriors. They became important warriors and assisted Earth-realm in defeating Khan and T'Sung while still remaining with their clan.

Lin Kuei elite ordered all of their ninja's to become cyborgs. Sub-Zero and Smoke resisted and fled. Sub-Zero was able to escape and made it a point to rebuild the Lin Kuei from the ground up. After an ambush Smoke was captured and turned into a cyborg. The Lin Keui cyborg program was designed so they would be elite officers for Kahn's army. However, Smoke even though he was a cyborg rebelled and joined his friend Sub-Zero along with the Earth-Realm warriors. He also made a vow to Sub-Zero he will help him rebuild the clan.

Smoke learned from Raidan that he still had a soul and was still good. Due to having a good soul and assisting Earth-Realm's warriors Raidan was able to restore smoke's humanity. It is revealed that his hair is silver. Smoke now a human again along with Sub-Zero also defeated their former clan. Sub-Zero was left and considered the new grand master. Smoke served Sub-Zero for a while fighting against Kahn's armies and rebuilding their clan.

Powers and abilities Smoke is an effecient and powerful ninja. He is known for his speed and power. He can literally vanish and hide in the smoke. He can also turn invisible to attack the opponent similar to Reptile. It is also shown he can briefly turn himself into a cloud of smoke and surround the opponent allowing him to get several hits on. He has powerful punches and attacks. Like Scorpion he can throw a spear to bring the opponents closer to him allowing him to do more damage. His other powerful attacks are his teleport punch/kick. He has a leg takedown attack. He can also air-throw the opponent.

Smoke has several fatal attacks. His most infamous fatal attack is surrounding the opponent with smoke and literally burning them due to high heat levels. He can also turn into smoke vapor with a venomous gas and inject it into a player. He can also turn his spear into a laser like weapon slicing his opponent. When he was a cyborg he could surround the player with bombs blowing them up. In both Cyborg and human form he could also attack a bomb to an opponent.

In Mortal Kombat Triology for his animal attack. It was shown he could turn into a raging bull and gore the player to death. He has two friendships. His first friendship is a no smoking sign drops down and he ceases smoking for a while. His second one is he pulls out a horn and starts playing music.

Personality: He is very intelligent as he knows a lot of languages and can disguise himself. This could also be the result of his Ninja training. He is very loyal. He is loyal to his friend Sub-Zero and Earth-Realm. He seems to have some morale about him. This is seen when he leaves Kahn's army. It is also shown when he resists his clan becoming cyborgs to serve Kahn. In addition, he encourages other Earth-Realm warriors. He is shown to be very thankful. As he thanks Raiden for restroing his human form. He is also thankful for his friends for helping him out as well.

On the other hand, he can be a serious no nonsense type person. Once he sets himself on a goal he will do everything he can. He also is not afraid to get even. This is seen when he gets even and even kills his former clan members who betrayed him. He is also a very fierce opponent. He will do whatever he can to win a fight.

"Your brother (Sub-Zero) chose evil using a dark demon power. You should not blame yourself he chose his own fate. Don't become like your borther Earth depends on you".

"You have gotten stronger Princes Kitana you will will be a good leader and ruler".

"Your a good fighter Lu Kang you are strong enough to defeat Kahn. You have to do this are you ready for the challenge".

"Stay down if you want to leave I have no use for your evil kind". He says this to Kano after defeating him.

"I will kill you and others for this you have disgraced the clan by joining evil. I also have not forgotten what you did to me." Seen after defeating Sektor.

Friends/Allies

Raiden- Raiden is a divine character in Mortal Kombat. He guides the Earth warriors. He restores Smoke's Humanity.

Sub-Zero-Smoke's best friend and fellow clan member. They fight with the Earth Warriors. They also rebuild their clan.

Kitana- He sees Kitana as the future ruler as she is a leader of the earth warriors he also serves her.

Lu Kang-Smoke recognizes Lu Kang as the key to victory. He also see's him for the powerful fighter he is.

Scorpion- At first they were at ends. When Scorpion learned the truth that Sub-Zero and his clan did not kill scoropions clan. They have become friends and join together to fight for the earth.

Enemies

Shoa Kahn-Smoke hates Kahn due to how evil he is.

Shang T'sung- He hates T'sung for his evil

Bin-Haden also known as Noob Sabot. Smoke hates Bin-Haden because he gave into demonic power and chose evil.

Sektor- He holds a deep hatered for Sektor for capturing him turning him into a cyborg. He also hates him for serving Kahn

Kano- He dislikes Kano because he trains Kahn's soliders and sometimes leads his death squads. It is also implied he probably does not get along with Kabel either.

It is easy to see why this character was popular. As he started out as a bad guy but then turned a good guy. His costume and his abilities have also made him popular. I also think what is popular is he resisted, was captured, but thanks to friends and Raiden he was restored. His personality is unique compared to other Mortal Kombat Characters.
