OH Yeah snap into a slim Jim, oh wait wrong character. Well, we are not going to learn about Macho Man Randy Savage. But, we are going to learn about a character based off of him. The character is Super Macho Man from the Punch Out Series. Super Macho Man is a reoccurring character from the Punch Out line. So far he has appeared in every Punch Out game to date. Therefore, lets learn more about this character. Super Macho Man made his debut in the 1980's as a boxing enemy in the first punch out games. As I stated he is based off the late wrestler Macho Man Randy Savage. At that time when the first punch out games came out Macho Man was a top heel (bad guy in wrestling). His gimmick was an egocentric wrestler that thought he was Macho and everybody was below him. Super Macho Man has a lot of the same characteristics. Just like a wrestler he wears wrestling trunks and boots instead of boxing clothing. After all he is based off a real life wrestler. It is implied that Super Macho Man was a wrestler at one point but he turned boxer. He was very good in the ring and quickly rose up in the ranks. He ended up winning the World Heavyweight Champion. Being the Champion earned him a lot of fame, endorsements, and money. It also shows that he was a hit with ladies. He quickly adopted his larger than life fame. Super Macho Man is 28 or 29 depending on the game. He was the top champion until a young fighter, who was rising in the ranks, named Mr. Sandman defeated him for his belt. He got a rematch with Sandman but he lost. This is Super Macho Man's only 2 defeats. Despite his two losses he still had his fame as he held the title for a long time. He also is still the number one contender for Mr. Sandman's belt. In Super Punch Out for Wii the player has to defeat him to get to World Champion Mr. Sandman. His appearance varies in games. He is mostly portrayed as being tan due to being in the sun a lot and rubbing his body with oil. He has gray or black hair. It could be that his hair grayed early despite being in his late 20's. It could also be that he dies his hair. His hair is long. Due to being high status he wears a lot of gold. Attack Wise Super Macho Man has a lot of attacks. His most powerful attack is his spinning clocking uppercut. One hit from this can send the player flying. He also throws a lot of quick jabs and uppercuts. His punches pack a punch. He is also fast. He loves to fake the player out by flexing only to do a hard punch. He does not have that many weaknesses. One of his weakness is when he is showing off that is a good time to attack him. This might be how he lost to the quicker and harder puncher Mr. Sandman. Personality wise: Super Macho Man is egocentric, a show off, and has an attitude. He believes that boxers under him are not a threat to him. He also thinks he is superior to them. However, he does respect Mr. Sandman since he is the only boxer to beat him twice. Another reason he respects Mr. Sandman is Sandman is not a show off. Thus, Mr. Sandman has the belt but has not taken Macho's fame and endorsements away from him. Moreover, Super Macho Man has an attitude. After knocking out an opponent he will flex his muscles, laugh, pose for the camera and then leave via helicopter. He also insults the fans as well. He is a show off. He loves to show off his body. But he really loves to show off his money and the things that he owns such as his car, his boat, his mansion. He also loves displaying his golden chains. As his name applies he also thinks he is macho as he has several girls with him when going to high events. However, his personality has turned people against him. Fans often heckle him and boo him. This makes Super Macho Man angry as he often yells why don't you love me. They always cheer for his opponent. If his opponent loses he trolls the fans back saying oh now that you love me despite them booing him louder. He is shown to have bad sportsmanship which is another reason in the games fans boo him. It is shown he also cannot stand it when people get more attention than he does. If Little Mac (who the player controls) beats him the first time it is shown that Mac gets more fame and more endorsements in the championship match were you fight him a second time. It shows him getting angry that companies are wanting to endorse Mac instead of him. It also bothers him that the fans cheer for his opponent instead of him. In real life Macho Man Randy Savage gimmick was like that. It makes sense that they Super Macho Man would have the same personality. Here is his stats from Punch Out Age 28 or 29 depending on the game. Height: 193 centimeters or 6'4 ft Weight: 110 kilograms that is 242 pounds Boxing Record Wins 35 29 of those knock outs Loses 2 both to Mr. Sandman He is a former champion having lost it to Mr. Sandman When I watched wrestling in the 80's and 90's. I was a fan of Macho Man Randy Savage. I thought it was interesting that a game company would make a character based off of his heel gimmick. I can remember playing the old punch out games at my cousins house. We would often talk how Super Macho Man resembled the real wrestler. Super Macho Man shares the real Macho Man's gimmick. The Punch Out Character is a difficult character to knock out. It is easy to see why he was a former champion in the video game franchise. He is also one of those characters that are very difficult that it gives you a thrill to knock out the others being Soda Popinski, Bald Bull, and of course Mr. Sandman. This concludes my biographhy of this punch out character. Super Macho Man made his debut in the 1980's as a boxing enemy in the first punch out games. Awesome write-up, dude! You sure did your homework on Super Macho Man. Couple of things I wanna point out (and mind you, this is just from my personal observations playing the game and being a bit of a wrestling nerd): The whole show-off persona definitely fits Super Macho Man, but it's kinda funny how it's so pronounced. Like, we get it dude, you're macho and rich. Chillax a bit. ![]() His spinning uppercut, man... that thing had me rage-quitting so many times! When you get the hang of dodging it andd finding the right time to land a punch, it's so satisfying. I always felt kinda bad for him because of how the crowd treated him. I mean, yeah, he's super cocky and all, but the guy's skilled in the ring! Deserves some respect, even if he’s always rubbing his success in our faces. Your observation about his relationship with Mr. Sandman is spot on. It's like, in his mind, only someone as great as him (or even better) could defeat him. That dynamic always intrigued me. And, oh man, Soda Popinski and Bald Bull. Those guys gave me nightmares! Your post totally took me down memory lane. Loved how you compared the game character to the actual Macho Man's personality from the wrestling world. Honestly, Punch Out was such an iconic game and characters like Super Macho Man made it so memorable. Cheers for the dope character bio! Can't wait to see which character you'll dive into next. Maybe King Hippo? That guy always cracked me up with his shorts falling down. Keep it up, dude! I think the crowd booing him was a reflection of the actual Macho Man. In the 1980's Macho Man was so good at being a heel in the ring the crowd would constantly boo him. Macho Man turned face in the 1900's before turning heel again. I think Nintendo just kept the concept. Yeah when me and my cousins played Punch Out. Soda, Bald Bull, Macho and Mr. Sandman gave us all kinds of problems. One of my cousins had problems with Bear Hugger. Yeah that was always funny about King Hippo. |

Ah man, you might be onto something there! It's been ages since I deep dived into Macho Man's history, but yeah, the 1980's was quite a time for him. I kinda remember him being a real thorn in everyone's side back then. It's cool hearing about how you and your cousins had your hands full with those characters. Totally feel you on Soda and Bald Bull, they were tricky ones for me too. But Bear Hugger giving your cousin problems? Man, that's hilarious! Everyone's got that one character that just gets under their skin right? And yeah, King Hippo... LOL, still can't help but chuckle every time I think about that guy. Thanks for another nostalgia trip, mate. Good times! It's cool hearing about how you and your cousins had your hands full with those characters.
