I'm pretty close to finishing up the netplay for the HTML5 browser emulator EmulatorJS. It is currently functional. I haven't had a chance to test it out with anyone yet, so if anyone is interested in testing it out with me, or with someone else, that'd be great. Keep in mind that this would mean, for the first time ever, users can do netplay without any plugins, and from just about any device!

I have a few more things I want to do with it before I officially announce it, so it's not completely done yet. But still, if you see any issues, or have any suggestions, let me know in this thread.

To start a netplay session, you can create it from the game's page from the section that you would normally play the games from. You would select EmulatorJS (Netplay) to create the session.

To join sessions, you can either do it from a game's page (if there's an active session), or you can do so from the Netplay Sessions page.

TIPS:
-When deciding who should host a session, it should be the user with the better computer
-A slow computer and internet browser can slow down the session for everyone else, so it's best to restart your internet browser if you risk slowing things down (and maybe even your computer)

I will be hosting a netplay tournament this summer, which I hope to make a thread about tomorrow. And if all goes well, the tournament will start next week. It more than likely will be a Bomberman '94 tournament, with a cash prize

One last note about netplay: I plan to make it so that you can create a netplay session for any game, even games that don't exist on the site. There will be a new page where you can create a netplay session and provide the game yourself. And then when people join the session, that game will automatically download for them.

Davideo7 : Could I suggest putting together a guide on how to get it working when you have time I got a bit confused when trying to download it before which is why I never got around to testing it I'll go ahead and try seeing if I can figure it out now.

Edit I just realized I forgot to say it's great to see netplay and tournaments returning!

another edit to say I completely missed the part where you didn't have to download anything last time I'm surprised how easy it is to just start playing bomberman

SonicOlmstead : Yes, this isn't using the RGR Plugin. There's no downloading, no installing, no configuring. But still, I'll be making a brief video at some point, showcasing the features and how to use them

Davideo7 : Glad to hear it! I messed around with it for a bit last night didn't get the chance to try playing with anyone yet, but I did notice one issue that I think is more emulator issue than netplay but I thought I'd mention it anyway it seems that for whatever reason the tecmo super bowl games on nes (The original and the updated roster versions) just have a gray box with no sound after decompressing I don't know if that's an issue that only I have or not but I thought I'd report it just in case.

SonicOlmstead : Right. Many of the NES games on Vizzed seem to be incompatible with the HTML5 emulators. Not sure why, and it's going to be a big project to get a new rom set to upload and replace each of them with. I'll probably begin working on fixing those in the enar future.

Thanks for the reminder

I made a few more updates and fixed a few issues that were causing issues. I also came to the realization that Turbo Grafx netplay doesn't work...not sure why, because in the documentation for EmulatorJS, it shows Turbo Grafx as supporting netplay. And while on that topic, not all of the systems support netplay, but most of the consoles do (the popular ones anyway).
