Potion Party is a fun little game that I discovered a while back that’s really fast paced and can be incredibly addicting. It’s a game where you own your own little alchemy shop where you create all sorts of potions and sell them to a variety of customers.

It’s actually one of the fastest paced games that I’ve ever played and the line between success and failure is quit thin, possibly seconds apart in some cases. Your only goal is to create all sorts of different potions. You do this by growing fruit, then beating them into a powder, and then brewing the powder into a potion, with a bunch of other steps along the way depending on what your customer wants.

You always want to be very careful when making potions because maybe you started brewing a yellow potion and a customer comes in wanting a green potion and now you probably just wasted a few seconds and every second matters. Each level gives you a certain amount of time and you need to reach a certain coin total to clear the level.

If you take too long to create a potion and the customer leaves, that is time that you’re not getting back and could very well be the difference between making enough coin or failing.

GRAPHICS: 8/10

The game has some really charming graphics. It’s a retro style pixel-esque game but it’s full of vibrant colors and I love how the characters bounce up and down. It’s nothing fantastic and all you get to see is the inside of your shop, but for what the game is, the graphics work really well.

Honestly, if the game wasn’t so fast paced, I would have a great time just taking in the different character designs and all the different quirks with how your shop looks.

SOUND: 8/10

The sound aspect is something that I really enjoyed about Potion Party. It might even be my personal favorite just because of the song that plays while you’re working. The song is fast paced and energetic and really fits in with the fast paced nature of the game. At times, it even feels like it would work as a great theme song. There’s a different song that plays while you’re in the main menus but I’m not to fond of that one and the generic sounds are okay to me.

ADDICTIVENESS: 10/10

Because of how fast paced and engaging Potion Party is, it’s a game that won’t get boring fast. No matter how long a level is, you’re going to be engaged and active throughout the entirety of the level. You might even be super focused at times, trying your hardest not to screw up.

If you fail a level, you’re going to find yourself trying over and over again until you can get it just right. Once you complete a level, you might even find yourself going back and doing the same level over and over again either to get more gold to unlock characters and upgrades or to see if you can get a high score for that level.

It’s very easy to put your full attention into the game and after 4 or so levels, a full hour has gone by, it can definitely get pretty addicting at times.

Depth: 9/10

Potion Party has a pretty decent amount of stuff to offer you when it comes to depth. First of all you have a decent amount of levels to complete but on top of that, there’s a number of things for you to buy and upgrade. There’s 10 different characters for you to unlock, all of which give you a small performance boost and there’s a bunch of things you can buy for your shop such as decorations or equipment that will help you out.

On top of that, it’s also possible to play with up to three other people, which can make the game a lot more fun but also a bit chaotic at times.

Difficulty: 6

The game can actually get kind of difficult at times because of how fast paced it is. If you make one mistake and a customer walks out on you, sometimes that might be enough to ruin your level and you won’t really know it until the end of the level. For instance, you might be doing the 15 minute level and you mess up on the first two customers. You won’t know whether or not you can catch up until you get closer to the end of the level.

It’s a game that really requires your full attention at all times and you need to be able to react pretty quickly or else the game can get tough at times but other than that, it’s a very enjoyable game as well, even with the difficulty.

OVERALL: 8.7/10

Overall, Potion Party is a very fun and charming game. To me, it’s a fresh take on the shopkeeper genre and it’s very cute and engaging at all times. The game is also pretty cheap too since it’s only $10 in the eshop, which makes it a great deal. Sure, you might only get a couple hours out of it if you play by yourself but the game is enjoyable enough to make that worth it and if you play with your friends, you’ll be able to get even more out of the game.Overall, I think Potion Party is great and it gets an 8.7 out of 10 from me.
