Unless a movie is part of a franchise. Most people always think that the original film is the best while subsequent films aren't as good. But are there any cases where you think the opposite? That a sequel is clearly better than the original?

For me, two movies come to mind and they both came out recently. A Quiet Place and Boss Baby. For A Quiet Place, I thought the story and worldbuilding were much better while I thought the story and humor were better for Boss Baby.

I can think of a couple examples so for starters I would argue The Empire Strikes Back is a lot better than A New Hope though I doubt I'm the only one who thinks so as I'm pretty sure I've heard it called one of the best movie sequels of all time. Another one that I think is better is Toy Story 2 I like the first Toy Story don't get me wrong but I find the 2nd one way more rewatchable and more enjoyable but that could be due to how many times I watched the 1st one when I was really little. I always feel like I'm forgetting more options when it comes to threads like this but I'm drawing a blank. :/

Two movies that done better than the original and no one will disagree. You ready?

Aliens is better than Alien in my opinion. I love them both but if I'm going to watch one of the 2 movies I go to Aliens more often than Alien.

Also, Terminator 2 is better than Terminator. Again, both are great but if I'm going to sit down and watch either one I'm picking T2.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army is for me much better than the original. Instead of getting an evil mastermind leaving the battle to monstruous creatures, in this one the mastermind is the one who actually does nearly all the battling. That's enough for me to put it ahead.

I'd also say Blade II is better than the first. We get much more action, more big-name stars and is much more... level-headed, so to speak. No gods of forgotten texts which surprisingly a human can read, no stupid hateful characters, just a race seeking evolution and destruction of its archnemesis in a single go whilst having the nicest ending. I can rewatch them both, but I have some preference for the second.

My last choice, out of the ones I can remember off the top of my head and not said by other users previously, is The Expendables 2. I know that as a movie it may lack a ton of things, and the franchise in general too, but in the whole saga I see it as the more complete and the most rewatchable outside of sporadic great moments the other entries have. Also, there's nothing personal in the plot, which is a nice touch given all other entries.
