Back in 2011, I listened to a lot of weird stuff. Prior to that year, I almost exclusively played video game music.

Starring off the year however, I shifted to listening to English fan dubs of Anime music.
As things wore into summer, I started listening to parodies of pop songs. I may have done this prior, but its importance is noted here, because it gatewayed me into a few actual pop songs.
The ones I recall are CeeLo Green's "f*** You", Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie", and Taio Cruz's "Dynamite." The only one I can listen to without shame nowadays is f*** you. It has a really snazzy theme and choreography.

Another realm I was heavily invested in at this time, was strange comedy music. Particularly that of Ninja Sex Party. They make some pretty inappropriate stuff, so I'd forewarn you before watching it, if strangely gross song lyrics repel you. I also got introduced to "YourFavoriteMartian". Which I liked, surprisingly. Their lyrics were off the wall, yet with a hint of seriousness. I guess I must've enjoyed the beat, because I've always felt there was a bit of cringe to their music.

Lastky, toward the end of the year; I was shown Marianas Trench and The Jokerr. I didn't listen to much of either, but I did come to listen to Marianas Trench again in late 2017.
I do still enjoy the "Ever Before" by The Jokerr though, but that's about it.

Most of this music didn't stick with me throughout my teenage years. I had just entered teenage-hood at the time. Now I'm an adult.

I still listen to Ninja Sex Party though, they deserve fans. The people behind that band are genuinely good people.

So what music did you listen to in 2011, do you remember?

I've been listening to the same music genres for the last 15 years or more. All I've done is simply dig a bit deeper into those genres to discover new artists and expand my main playlist with their hits.

I may have introduced other genres over the years, though those other genres are nothing but branches or evolved forms of the genres I've been maining. Still, those other genres haven't taken the spotlight from my main ones yet.

My main music style is Hardcore/Gabber. Over time I've found very good songs that still make my skin crawl after listening to them hundreds of times, like "The Deadfaced Dimension" by Angerfist and MC Nolz or "The World Is Mine" by Catscan to name just a couple of them, or several of the official anthems of their prominent festivals like Dominator and Masters of Hardcore.

My other main style is harder to define nowadays. It's what the 90s Dance and Trance music has evolved into. It can be heard both in the Hands Up style, which would be their real descendant, and the renewed life that has been breathed into UK Hardcore. Songs like "Sleep When We're Dead" by Italobrothers or the magical "Our Generation" by Rocco and Bass-T would be good examples.

And well, how can I forget about Scooter. It's been like 16 years since I discovered them by pure chance, and now I have their full discography in my room. Their style has changed a lot over the years, and honestly their music since 2014 has lost a bit of power, but they're still loyal to their roots and apparently hungry for more.

As I said, the rest of music I listen to on a regular basis are just evolutions of the styles above: Hardstyle is what the Hardcore from the early 2000s has turned into, Nightcore is simply speeding up remixes of Dance music and all its modern descendants, Jumpstyle is but a variant of Hardstyle with a different bass... And of course, I still main music from back in the day, because I can't let go of the classics that easily.
