Here is one. What was the specific reason why Goku discontinued the use of his Super Saiyan 3 form after he learned how to be a Super Saiyan 4? (just the fact that 4 is more powerful is not the main reason. He still used his Super Saiyan 1-2 forms. Why not 3?)

Goku had little problem with his Super Saiyan 3 transformation when he was dead because he had no real physical body. But when he was brought back to life, he saw the taxing drawback of the form. It pushes his energy far beyond natural limits. It is simply far too straining on his body and he can't keep the form for very long. For example, in his fight with Kid Buu, he used the transformation once. Then he had to allow Vageta to fight Buu while he went to his SS3 form, and try to hold it. Even when he wasn't fighting, he could hold it for long, and simply transforming a second time in such a short period brought him to his knees. 

Super Saiyan 4 is already far superior in raw power, energy, and even stamina. It does not have that drawback on his body that SS3 has, making that form pointless to use. If he used it, he would likely not even have the ability to go to his SS4 form if SS3 proved to be not enough because of the huge tax on his body.

I think ameen_11 was on the right track, but only with him in his child body. But he stated that it no longer served a purpose because of the huge drawback it had.
