No it's gotta be almost the exact same shape. If it's to short, than there's an invisible box above the characters head that's actually there but you just don't see it and that looks really bad in a game, I've seen a few rom hacks that way.

Plus, Jolteon is wide. Trust me, this is just not possible to use Jolteon.

Ok, well in pokemon games, you just have to stay inside the pixels(you can't go outside of them anyway), but smb is alot older.

Yeah and Super Mario Bros requires a lot of precision too since you're hitting stuff with your head and jumping on stuff with your feet and hitTest's against the enemies.

Yeah, gonna be tough. Can we make a secret level for a battle with a legendary? The problem is the limit of sprites... but if we take a character out we can just use them as the boss right?

how about this. now mushrooms are evo stones right and fireflowers are rare candy, why not just make the evo stone look like a brownish stone then you could make player 2 maybe clefairy and it can become clefable or something.
that way you could include another pokemon increasing the total number in the game.

It would need to be something less bad, but then again, that could make my eevee idea work, because Flareon has a more workable body type than Jolteon

well i was looking mostly at options that use stones that could get away with being brown to evolve pokemon that stand up on 2 feet that are the same basic shape as each other.
other options that might work are nidorina & nidoqueen, nidorino & nidoking, jigglypuff & wigglytuff.

Actually, the thunderstone is for thw fireflower and rare candy is for the mushroom.

Like DH said, you could just make it a generic evolution stone

EDIT: The Flower could be a TM, this could open up possibilities of using an ordinary pokemon who is capable of learning an electric attack.

Also, small mario would be Pikachu and big Mario would be Riachu. The reason small mario has to be pikachu is because if pikachu was big mario, he'd be to big and would be bigger than a lot of the pokemon on the levels that he's normally the same size as. Additionally, this is 1st gen pokemon.

So, Mushrooms are Evo Stones and Flowers are probably TM's.

Ok, as I said, the Flower will be a TM, TM 24 to be exact, which is "Thunderbolt" and it can be learned by both Riachu and Wigglytuff so that means 2nd player will be Jigglypuff who will evolve into Wigglytuff.

Are you kidding? Who doesn't love Jigglypuff, he's like the Kirby in the Pokemon world. Not to mention he's like one of the most well known Pokemon and appears in all the Super Smash Bros games.

But either way, I don't see to many people playing this game with another person anyway so it doesn't matter a whole lot of what Player 2 is.

i think you guys should make this a flash game and make it psp and i pod touch compat.

this isnt going to be a flash game. it is a super mario bros nes graphics hack.
i dont think either Davideo7 or 2dnoodleman want to do that either.
maybe in the future it can be converted to one, but not for this project.

A while ago I began developing Super Mario Bros in flash, whenever I finish it, I can simply swap the graphics but that isn't happening in the near future.

Maybe boss battles can be like pokemon battles from the original game. Or in order to beat the boss you have to catch it with a pokeball after you've weakened it. Maybe you can do a kirby-esque kinda thing where you can "suck up" enemies by catching them with pokeballs and "spit them out" to attack other enemies. Just some ideas, I can't design or anything but I can come up with ideas and stories.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, they're limited to the size of the original SMB game because it's a hack. Don't quote me on this...
