Hello everyone! :)So this is my first game review I ever made so don't expect it to be good but I'll try my best! So this is my review for Sonic the Hedgehog Extended Edition. So, What is actually so extended about this hack of Sonic the Hedgehog?To tell you the truth, this is a pretty good hack alright, but this is still a demo. This hack still has the original green hill zone levels like the original sonic the hedgehog, but it's extended. Well, how is it extended?

You may notice that Sonic can do a spin dash by holding down and tapping A, B, or C, but also if you hold up and hold A, B, or C then he well do another cool dash (forgot what it's called). :)So when you start the game, it has a save game feature! :) and it appears to work fine for me! :) and not just that, usually in Sonic 3 and normal games, you would have a boring menu and you select the slot, but in this hack you actually control sonic in this cool zone and you select a slot by jumping on the button and then jump on the huge ring, however, you can only make up to 3 slots. Also when you jump on the delete button, sonic will turn gray and when you jump on a button on any slot, it will be deleted so be careful. I am not done yet, there is still more. When you start a new game, you will be in a level selection screen for green hill zone. And then you select the act you want to play by jumping on the button and then jump in to the big ring to start the act! You will also notice that after you finish an act, it will change from day time to sunset, then to night time, then to morning time and it looks beautiful! :) Now Lets talk about each detail in the game! :)Graphics: 10Honestly for me, the graphics are the same like Sonic the Hedgehog but it deserves a 10 because after finishing an act, it will change from day time to sunset, then to night, then to morning and so on after you keep replaying the acts! :)Sound: 9In the level selection screen for green hill zone, you may notice that the background music for green hill zone is a little high pitched and it actually sounds pretty good. Makes me just feel cheered up and happy! :) and when you play an act, in green hill zone then it's the original background music and the boss background music is the same like the original Sonic the Hedgehog. The background music in the main menu for select a saved game slot is also pretty cool and all other sounds like getting rings or losing them... etc is the same like the original Sonic the Hedgehog.Addictiveness: 6Well, the game is not so addictive due to being incomplete. This hack only has all acts of green hill zone but if the game gets completed then this for sure would be an awesome game! :)Story: 6It's the same story like the original Sonic the Hedgehog. It's basically Sonic trying to defeat Eggman.Depth: 9Well, even though the game is a demo, it still deserves a 9 for having a cool level selection screen and a cool save game slot selection screen.Difficulty: 3This game is not hard at all! It's only just green hill zone, a very easy zone but the game will be more challenging if they complete the game.Overall: 9This is honestly a good hack. I hope they complete this hack one day! :)Well, what are you waiting for? Try out the game already! Sonic the Hedgehog Extended Edition   Joshua12878
In this extended edition of the first Sonic game, the first thing that sets this version apart is the Advance-like over world where Sonic can go into different levels by finding and entering rings instead of the game instantly going from act 1 to act 2 to act 3. The clock has been altered from the original to the one used for Sonic CD. But other than those two features featured, this is the same first Sonic game some of you have been playing for years on the Sega Genesis or on another gaming system. I would give this a higher rating if not for the fact this is merely a demo with just Green Hill Zone and not a full, completed game. I find the over world was a great addition, perhaps with the addition of the lightning, bubble and fire TV sets from Sonic 3 for this game it would be given by me a 10/10 rating. To the developer(s): keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing the full Sonic extended edition ROM on this website (or another website) in the near future.Note: to use the spin dash feature, you have to hold either the a, s or d keys (with normal Genesis configuration) for about two seconds and wait for the screen to move either left or right to spin dash. Revving for a spin dash will have no effect unless the screen moves.

Sonic the Hedgehog Extended Edition is a hack in progress by Cinossu of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. In this version of the game, instead of new or fully edited zones, all the original zones are kept intact with minor editing to the acts. Instead this hack extends the game beyond its original capabilities, including a zone map with warp rings to each act (much like in Sonic Advance 3), saving via SRAM slots (like in Sonic the Hedgehog 3), obtainable upgrades such as the Spin Dash and Super PeelOut (like in the Megaman X series) as well as a new type of ring, emerald and special stage to add to the mix.

While work has not been shown on the hack for a while publicly, a lot of work goes on in private. This is mostly Cinossu either restarting the entire thing from scratch (currently on the 5th restart since conception), or constantly adding and refining new features and ideas. The latest restart is most likely the last one, however, as the disassembly is now so modular that the various chunks can be restarted rather than the entire hack.
As mentioned above, ideas are often refined, updated and changed for this hack, so it is a good idea to keep checking this page about further details from the latest versions (both information and pictures). It is unlikely to be posted in other places until it is ready to be released publicly.
