Actually, I'd already completed the Water Temple when I made this thread. To circumvent the difficult of quickly Longshotting, all one had to do is get as close as possible with the pad then go to Options>Smooth X & Y. After longshotting, the X & Y channels can be reset.

Still haven't figured out how to complete the fishing game, though. And the Lens of Truth doesn't work in the treasure chest mini-game, but that's really ancillary.

So I'm replaying OoT without the help a USB controller, and I've found that it is impossible for me to actually land a fish (necessary, if I remember correctly, if you want to get the golden scale and heart piece). The instructions prompt with directions on how to "hook a fish"--analog down + A; or on the keyboard, Shift + down arrow key, presumably. The problem arises when I actually try this, though--because it never works. At first I thought the up and down arrow keys were reversed for items (like they are when using C-button items like Hook/Longshot and arrows, or the first-person camera), but up arrow + shift didn't work either. Anyone know why?

It could be that I just suck, of course.

Anyhow. Feel free to baleet this if it's in the wrong section.
