I'm sure you're all familiar with Mario Party and it's constant sequels. Mario Party is a game enjoyed by many people. Fun mini games, good soundtrack, good controls, big arguments, violent bashing each other with your controllers until both of you bleed, long trip to the hospital, you basically get the idea. Many developers have tried to conquer the 4 player party game giant, but fail to succeed, despite some of them being quite fun. South Park: Chef's Love Shack is one of them. Does it succeed? No, but it's fun.
This party game has no real story. Chef is holding a game show for hot girls, only to be ruined by the iconic 4 boys appearing instead. Stan, Kyle, Eric and Kenny. So they start the game anyway. Party games never really have a story, and to everyone's surprise, Mario Party has no real story either. Ironically, Sonic Shuffle (Mario Party's biggest rival) had an actual story. The game is very simple. You and friends get given questions to answer. You have to know quite a bit in order to answer correctly. Unfortunately, if you're like me then you will have to guess, since quite a lot of the questions and jokes are about stuff that today's gamers would not get or understand, making this game really hard to age. Onto the mini games now. The games are chosen when a round of questions has finished. It's Speaking of the show itself, the artwork of this game replicates the show perfectly. They don't use any choppy 3D models like in South Park 64 or South Park Rally and don't put them in foggy or terribly modelled 3D landscapes. The game is completely 2D and that's perfect. The music doesn't do so well however. None of the soundtrack is rememberable apart from the title screen's music. It would've been good if they managed to fit the original South Park opening theme in the game somewhere. If you're a really big South Park fan who has friends who would actually play this with you, go ahead and buy this game. However, if you're looking for any South Park game, any game at all, then I'd recommend South Park: The Stick Of Truth on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. This game I'd honestly give a pass. Sonic 2 absolutely gave Sonic 1 a run for it's money. Don't get me wrong, Sonic 1 was awesome, but Sonic 2 blows it away. -------------------- |

I remember getting the original fat DS for my 8th birthday with Nintendogs and Tamagotchi Town. I had so many memories of playing it in front of my sister, as she watched with internal screaming, since she didn't get a DS but then I did instead. Ah, those were the days... -------------------- |

Nowadays, you probably see Sonic being treated like a toothpick by Sega. Bad camera angles, annoying/useless characters, long loading screens and overused content to try and keep the Classic fandom alive. The only reason why Sonic is still is still a thing is nostalgia and Sonic Colours/Generations. Don't get me wrong, I love Sonic. Heck, I even thought the hedgehog's recent outing (Sonic Lost World) was ok, and critics hated it!
Anyway, going onto the topic of Sonic R, the game was released in 1997 to compete against Mario Kart 64 and upcoming Diddy Kong Racing and Crash Team Racing. Published by Sega, developed by Traveller's Tales (People behind Sonic 3D Blast and Lego games) with the help of Sonic Team comes a racing game for the Sega Saturn and PC (and to be re-released for Sonic Gems Collection), Sonic R. Does it live up to the game's hype from 1997? Not quite. After the cancellation of Sonic Xtreme, the Sega Saturn had no 3D Sonic game on it. Sonic Team tried their best to keep their fans happy with Sonic in Christmas Nights, Sonic Jam's Sonic World and the closest thing to 3D Saturn Sonic game, Sonic R. Unfortunately, fans had to be greeted with a game with slippery controls and cheesy soundtrack. Though critics loved it in 97, the critics now think opposite nowadays. Sonic R has no story unless you were bothered to read the instruction manual, or if you were bored in the car and you had got the game. The story is simple. Sonic sees a poster about a race and decides to enter, but it turns out EggMan enters as well, so Sonic and friends race. Move over Heavy Rain! This gets story of the year! Seriously though, this didn't need a story anyway. It's a racing game. Sonic R has about 11 characters, which is more than Mario Kart 64, but falls in track department, as there is only 5 tracks.About the slippery and cheesy music. The game is only playable if you play with the 3D Saturn controller. Sonic R with a d-pad is like chasing a Ferrari down the motorway whilst wearing baggy jeans. You might as well throw that controller out the window. The controls in this game are slippery. Bump into the wall or another person and you start skidding around. Fall into water, you take ages to get out. Collecting Chaos Emeralds and Sonic Tokens? Yeah, good luck with that. Speaking of Chaos Emeralds and Sonic Tokens, you need to collect all seven Emeralds to unlock Super Sonic and the 5th track. You also need to collect tokens to unlock the other five characters. If you collect all 5 tokens in a stage, you have to come at least 3rd, so that should be ok, but you have to come 1st to be able to obtain the emerald you found, and the worst part about it is that if you are collecting them, you're going to find it impossible to come first, since the CPU players will go way past you when you are stuck in the emerald's area and cannot get out since you're trying to get out of the area but cannot do so, since you are playing a game with bad controls. Also, the soundtrack. The soundtrack, despite being catchy and fun to listen to, it was not really meant for a racing game. It's like if someone developing the game said "Hey, my cousin is releasing a new album. Maybe we can ask if we can use her songs and she can compose only 1 song that has something to do with the game!". Just kidding, the soundtrack was composed by Richard Jacques, the man behind many Sega game soundtracks. His work is good, but it's not suitable here. The summary? Sonic R is a game that is probably going to break your sanity. I'd give this a skip and instead play Sonic and AllStars Racing Transformed. If that's not your cup of tea, just play Mario Kart. What games do you like that nobody else does? I'm not saying that nobody does like the game(s) you enjoy. I'm more saying it as in games that you and a smaller amount of people enjoyed. Here are some of my games that I enjoyed.Alien Trilogy (PS1/Saturn)Alien Trilogy was a very good game in my opinion, despite it's not very pretty and only using d-pad for the PS1 version. I'm not much of a horror fan, so I didn't think I'd like it, but then when I played the game, I got some fun out of it. The game has a dark atmosphere with a challenging maze of a map with plenty of Aliens to shoot. You have an arsenal of weapons to choose from and the game will keep you playing for hours (If you like it, that is).Crash of the Titans (Multiple platforms)"A Crash Bandicoot game that isn't good?" You may ask yourself. A lot of people who played this thought it was bad, but a smaller amount of people like me found this game to be very artistic, fun platforming and good controls (for the non Wii versions at least). Coco has been captured and Cortex is planning to turn all animals into blood thirsty monsters. However, Crash using Aku Aku, he can brainwash the monsters and use them against Cortex's army. Crash of the Titans is very fun, though people might prefer it's sequel, Crash: Mind Over Mutant.Lotus Challenge(Sega MegaDrive/Genesis) There isn't a lot to say about Lotus Challenge. To put it in a nutshell, it's a very simple racing game by EA (before they became worst company in America, twice). This game is probably super obscure for a reason, but I enjoy the racing in this game. Going at fast speeds, avoiding other cars, jumping over logs and puddles and pressing the C button to hear your driver say "YEEHAARR" never fails to make me laugh. A fun game in my opinion and not too hard to find (hopefully). Respond to this thread with some games that stick out in your mind but not other's! I love to hear feedback on things!
