Just off of the top of my head: Dr. Strangelove (dark humor done right), O Brother where Art Thou? (I not sure why I liked that one), Office Space, Contact (based on the Sagan book), First Contact (The Star Trek movie, heh), Citizen Kane (Just keeping it old school), 2001: A Space Odyssey (A thinking man's Sci-Fi movie), Waking Life (because I enjoy overhearing philosophical debates), Good Night and Good Luck (I like the style, and the point of the film), and Gattaca (I just like that one).

That's all I can think of at the moment, though I'm sure there are more.

You make a good point. In my ideal form of government, which changes from time to time just as with any other reasonable person, I'm all for the government helping out their citizens in need with things such as healthcare and education. However, in regards to healthcare and topics similar, I think that if a person knowingly puts themselves in danger of injury or sickness, such as smoking or being grossly overweight, they are entitled to nothing in the way of society's support.

Alas, that is in my little fantasy world and not the real one.

Funny how this more or less goes against the UN's own Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Article 19

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

A law such as this is simply unconstitutional in the United States and unreasonable in many ways.

I'm all for respecting other religions, however this has gone to far. I think there really is nothing on this Earth that is beyond some sort of reasonable criticism. To deny such is ignorance.

In my opinion, the point of this is all mere symbolism and perhaps to make some sort of point. I do not follow California politics, but I have my doubts this measure will pass.

Again, I'm torn on the issue. I am a firm believer in people having the right to make decisions on issues like these. I just have trouble supporting legislationg that would allow people to become less productive members of society. I doubt there is anyone that could convince me that marijuana actually makes the average person more productive.

If anything it has the opposite effect on productivity from my limited observations, as in it goes to the wayside. However, it may make a few people more creative or whatever.

I am a firm believer in the right of a person to ruin their life, so long as does not interfere with me.

It is certainly not a black and white issue.

What's humorous is that even if the State of California legalizes recreational marijuana it is still illegal on the Federal level.

So that means if you bought some weed and paid state taxes on it, likely high taxas, you could still get busted for possession by the DEA and sent to jail.

Though I have not once in my life experimented with marijuana, I think it is ridiculous that it is illegal.

I agree it could easily be legal and would bring in lots of money to the government, open up new jobs, stop crowding jails and prisons and also help the police to focus on the more dangerous issues.

I also agree with this assessment. However, I do not see marijuana legalization on a larger scale anytime soon because marijuana is just on of those scapegoat issues politicians like to utilize.

Perhaps, though the Eastern concept of "religion" is somewhat different from the way Westerners perceive it.

Oh dear lord, yes. This movie was terrible. I don't know why we watched the entire thing, really.

Worst. Musical. Ever. And there are some really terrible musicals.

After a certain point (or, really since the beginning on that monstrosity) it was so bad it was comical.

It's humorous you say that because there was a time when I was younger when I wanted to become Jewish. At that time for some reason I did not mind everything else in the bible, but the divinity of Jesus (in other words, that Jesus is not only the messiah and son of god, but IS God) just did not sit well with me. I have since taken a more skeptical and guarded view in regards to all of the bible.

I am inclined to believe there is some sort of higher power out there, like who is capable of seeing, existing, and acting in dimensions we cannot, but those are just my wandering thoughts.

God as he is presented in Christian, Jewish, and Islamic religious texts just does not seem right to me. I suppose it's Hell for me.

It makes sense that knowing a large amount of knowledge about a religion while not getting brainwashed by it allows one to more easily point out its flaws.

Yeah, I'm very interested in Saturn games as near the end of the system's life it was very hard to find any games, therefore there are quite a few I missed out on.

And yeah, I meant dragged. The way I used "drug" is more of a dialect differentiation I guess. That particular usage was on Merriam-Webster.com, though near the bottom of the list of definitions.

There were no drugs involved... at least that I am aware of.

These days I more or less consider myself agnostic. Though we never really went to church a lot as a kid, I grew up in a mostly baptist house, thus my general distaste with Christianity.

Hey, so I'm obviously new here. I'm not really a huge gamer, but I have a few addictions. Mainly I'm into civilization, but I'm also into some of the older Genesis games. I was really a sega fan boy as a kid. A Saturn and a Dreamcast later I cannot say with confidence that worked out to well, haha, but I don't have any regrets.

Anyway, a little about me, I'm 23, male. Yeah, nothing terribly exciting, I know

Oh, and I was sort of drug here by the lovely rocksome.
