So I was wondering if there's any other Houshin Engi fans out there? Or perhaps you've seen it's anime counter-part which went into another direction and which I do like and find enjoyable but pales in comparison to Houshin Engi? Well anyways the anime counterpart is Soul Hunter. It is enjoyable too but like I said the manga is far superior.
Like I said in the manga topic, here's a short summary: The basic plot of Houshin Engi...Well that's difficult to put in words. It's pretty epic, or at least I believe so. Basically you have your typical youkai/demons and immortals. However later on you find out that maybe the immortals aren't all that immortal. All powers and magic and the like are basically weapons known as Paopei. Hoshin Engi was inspired by an ancient Chinese novel Fengshen Yanyi. Basically the incompetent(or is he?)immortal apprentice to the great Sage Gens***enshin is sent down to the mortal war to defeat the evil So Dakki. Dakki has corrupted the Dynasty and it's emperor as she's his new Queen. (Though his wife is the empress so another way to describe Dakki would be concubine but she's manipulated the emperor's mind to the point where he's appointed her to the position of queen, but not empress.) Dakki is actually a demon, and while her and her demon sisters enjoy life in the palace everyone else is suffering. In fact Dakki loves to make them suffer more so she's actually made sure everyone else is suffering. She conducts plans to assasinate those in her way and make it so she's always going to be cozy. She has lots of allies and spies who are demons like in their army and what not. Taikoubou, whose over fifty despite his young appearance(remember immortal), comes off as a stupid, selfish, ignorant idiot. Okay those are pretty much all the same thing but you get the idea right? In fact he's quite the opposite. He could have probably gotten a really high rank(even though just being Gens***enshin's apprentice gives him a high rank already)if he wasn't so lazy. Taikoubou is what you'd call a general, he's rather intelligent despite he rarely acts it. He's also self-sacrificing, another thing you'd never guess unless you were one of his friends. So Taikoubou has to stop Dakki and save the human world, as he too once suffered because of this demonic vixen over fifty years ago when his human village and family was destroyed. So along the way he'll make allies and rally a army against the enemy. The cast is actually rather large and I don't know how you could not have at least one favorite character. Another thing is Dakki is probably my most favorite villain of well anything. So you see it's a great story. If it's allowed I do know a site, which is relatively safe that lets you read manga online. I'll post it if it's allowed so you can read Houshin Engi yourself. Of course you should go out and buy the books too. I'm the type of person who even if they read manga online I'll go buy the series if I like it. Which is why reading manga online isn't a bad thing if you ask me, sure it's free but it doesn't quite make up for actually owning the copy and taking it with you wherever you know? Hopefully I've at least interested one of you guys to check the series out. Also out of all the shounen heroes out there Taikoubou is defiantly my favorite. Another thing, do you guys thing when it comes to a series that has a manga and anime version which do you think is the superior of the series? I usually say manga, but that's because a lot of the anime counterparts that are based on manga deviate from the source material. Be it because they've caught up and are waiting for new chapters so they put fillers in everything or it isn't finished and they want to make an ending. Though the opposite can be said, there are series where it was an anime only or anime first. Oh the anime counterpart of Houshin Engi/Soul Hunter ends up not introducing a lot of the characters, or they only get a little screen time, and there's an anime ending which doesn't even relate to the manga ending and things are taken in a different direction. I think the dub is pretty good though. The series is still enjoyable like I said earlier but if I had to choose one it'd be the manga of course. Out of all those I chose Dragon Warrior/Quest.
The thing is I haven't been excited about any of the new games in the other series, except for being excited for Dissidia(much later on mind you)then getting disappointed. The only Pokemon game I'm really excited for now is HeartGold and SoulSilver but I'm not all like OMGMUSTGET. Jak and Daxter...I love the series but it's the same thing, as is Kingdom Hearts. Though with Kingdom Hearts my fangirly-ness kind of went down for it. I was never one of those scary KH fangirls but I did like it a lot. However right before KH2 came out I lost interest, the GBA game being the only one I played regularly then. I'm not the only one who sometimes gets turned off from a game, series or anything because of the fanbase right? I know something can be good but the fanbase can be either scary, embarrassing, annoying or all of the above. Not to say all the fans are like that, and I feel sorry that they usually get lumped in with that majority. Did you know that Dragon Warrior/Quest is so popular in Japan they have to sell the newer releases of it only on certain days because A LOT of people really did skip work and school just to buy it. They had to pass a law about that. Now that's saying something. Though if you had a couple other series on there I might have voted for them. I really like the Tales series and Suikoden and Growlanser. Amongst some others. Oh and Zelda. Which I'm surprised wasn't on the list. Any MegaTen or NIPPON game is good too. Nope doesn't seem to work. Though I read somewhere that the pocky replay thing puts numbers in differently but I'm not quite sure how that is supposed to work.
I tried that one emulator where you have to take the 00 out of the codes but I can't even load the game. If I click new or continue it goes black for a second like it's loading then it goes back to the beginning screen where you choose new or continue. Is there any way to fix this? I don't really need the codes now but I heard the game gets so hard that a lot of people used codes later on. I also heard Yuffie and Vincent aren't in this game? I'm going to guess so since their not on the code list. That's a little sad but I'm amazed they were able to make FF7's story even on the NES. I've only played the first couple of minutes but I'm going to guess this game is hard? What other NES or possibly SNES versions of other games are there? I know someone made a fanmade version of Zelda NES on the SNES. Then there's FFX on the NES and there's Resident Evil on the NES. Is there any other games like that? Those are pretty cool, I wish there was a FF8 or FF9 on the NES. I tried that one emulator where you have to take the 00 out of the codes but I can't even load the game. I don't think there was a rule against bumping topics but if I missed that I'm sorry.
Just wanted to say glad to see more of James fans online. I like his AVGN reviews, but I find that the ones that don't have the 'cameos' and what not are more of my favorites. Of course I have the crazier ones as my faves, but those are the older vids. I also enjoy his other works like Board James, when he reviews movies and of course Monster Madness. Other video game reviewers I watch are LittleMissGamer, the various people on ThatGuyWithTheGlasses and various Let's Play's. My favorite LPer being DeceasedCrab. Also he has a newer review then that if no one has checked lately. He's done Godzilla and a new one should be up soon if it isn't already. Just wanted to say glad to see more of James fans online. I just started playing too. I think it's an interesting game and I'm a sucker for older games or anything that feels older. For example those awesome Dragon Fantasy games on RPG Maker.
I was wondering though is there any way to make the cheats work on Nestopia? There's no Action Replay, just Game Genie and Pro Action Pocky. I've tried inputting codes into it but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong? Other then that there's nothing wrong with the game. I heard though from somewhere the face sprites are edited from Gundam face sets? xD I was wondering though is there any way to make the cheats work on Nestopia? I'm disappointed in all of you. No one has said Landstalker yet. Sure I like other games but it's not hard for me to say which one is my all time favorite. That's Landstalker. It's like an RPG, or it could be just an action-adventure game. But it's a great game. The controls are a little hard to get used to at first but it's a really great game. Sure some say it's a rip-off of Zelda but I think it's unique on it's own that it's not. Sure Nigel is an elf(88 years old) and Friday is his fairy partner(she looks more like a demonic fairy which is cool!). But the story is good and as is the gameplay. There's lot of puzzles and some can get challenging, especially anything to do with jumping. Basic plot is Nigel is a treasure hunter, he comes across Friday fleeing from some people because she has knowledge of the Treasures of King Nole, not exactly where it is but knows the area it is in, and so he saves her and they go on an adventure to find the treasure. Along the way Nigel helps people out, etc. It's a pretty good game. No one has said Landstalker yet. Sure I like other games but it's not hard for me to say which one is my all time favorite. FF7 is a good game but it really isn't worth all the hype it gets. Sure it was amazing to all RPG players who first played it a long time ago, but that doesn't make it neceasarily the best in my opinion at least. It's okay if you all love it. You see there's a phrase when we talk about games. "It's the Final Fantasy 7 of the series..." Like in Persona for example. Persona 3 has become the Final Fantasy 7 in the series, their already remaking the game for PSP and allowing to be a boy or a girl.
My favorite Final Fantasy games are: FF4, FF8, FF9, FFTactics/Lion War, FFCC(Gamecube version is the only one I really liked). Second place sometimes ties in first place with the others and that would be FF3(NES and DS one), FF1+2, FF5+6 and FF7. Okay wait let me rephrase that. Whiel I have my all time favorites I basically like all the older FF games. 10 and 10-2 were okay. But I haven't played much after that. I've played Tactics Advance on GBA(Not the DS one)and that one was okay too. Didn't like FF12, never tried FF11. And really haven't bothered to play any other spin-off's other then a few minues of the Echoes of Time game and Dirge of Cirberus. I do plan on getting the wii-ware sequel to FF4 though. My favorties FF need more love though xD Everyone else usually loves the other CC games but I liked the things about CC that others hated. Sure it didn't have much of a story line, it had many. It had a bunch of scenes and quests and dungeons. And I liked how you could pick your race, gender and which outfit you wanted. Though in Echoes you get to be male or female and choose your gender so I like how they went back to that. Final Fantasy 4 was amazing when I first played it. I have it's remake as well. To me FF4 was like FF7 to you guys. Though when I first played FF1 for the first time when I was little I was amazed at how much talking was in it, but not put off. Which is suprising considering I was only a kid and kids these days don't seem interested in reading the words in the game. I know my nephew isn't. FF5 was fun but FF6 was another game which blew my mind away when I played it for all the different characters. And despite some saying Terra is a Mary-Sue I still like her over Celes. I used to hate Celes and be part of the Terra faction but I'm over my younger fangirly ways mostly. I never owned FF7 until after I bought the eight and ninth game though. Because my cousin owned it and I borrowed it all the time. When I first played FF7 yes I was amazed. But so was I when I played FF8, FF9 and FFT. FFT has one of the best stories out of all them if you ask me. Anyways in the end I voted FF9 for the simple fact that FF9 has Freya. xD My favorite Final Fantasy games are: FF4, FF8, FF9, FFTactics/Lion War, FFCC(Gamecube version is the only one I really liked). I think that would be a great idea. You know being able to choose your job/what you do in the game. Like being just a breeder, coordinator, on one of the teams(Rocket, etc.), and so forth. I mean I know you can technically be a breeder and/or a coordinator but the main goal of the game is after all to beat everyone in battles. Maybe have a different story for the different paths you choose?
The Pokemon story may be weak but I like it enough to keep coming back. Maybe the game can be a little more like Pokemon Colosseum on the gamecube. That was different from the norm but enjoyable for me. The Pokemon story may be weak but I like it enough to keep coming back. Well can't the same be said about any game series? Sure it has newer stories, maybe some newer features but it's basically the same right? Like for RPGs it's usually save the world right?
But everyone still plays Tales or Final Fantasy etc. I guess you can argue Pokemon, game wise doesn't have much of a story. Your trying to beat all the gym leaders, the elite four and become the best. And if you want all the scenes do whatever little extra quests and catch all the pokemon. Then they added in contests so that's another way to play and then there's the Safari Zone, the little bicyle road thing etc. There are usually some puzzles in the game too which can be fun and challenging for some or just plain annoying. And while I love Pokemon and used to collect all the handheld games(and non hand-held games, however right now I'm talking about the hand-held ones as I've gotten nearly all of them)that are part of the main series, however once Diamond and Pearl came out I really just stopped collecting every single one. I only have Pearl, not Diamond and I emulate Platinum(along with a couple other DS games. My DS is falling apart but that's a different story). I probably wouldn't even buy Platinum, well not for myself, maybe for my nephew. As it doesn't really interest me even when playing it. I do admit I'm totally psyched for the remake of Gold and Silver. And that's probably what's wrong with most games today, Pokemon especially. It just feels like their only remaking and not releasing brand new ones. Like after Ruby and Sapphire there was FireRed and Leafgreen which were a remake of Y/B/R/G and then there was Emerald which was a remake of Sapphire and Ruby(I know it has more then that but that's sort of what it feels like). And Platinum is a remake of Diamond and Pearl. Sure you could argue their not exactly remakes because there's more stuff etc. But the same can be said about remakes of Final Fantasy(like 3 or 4)right? But what I'm getting at is it's an addicting game. I'm someone who enjoys Pokemon, Digimon and Yugioh games. They can get repetitive but any game in a series can at some point. What makes it popular if it's good and addicting. And to me Pokemon is. I still play it, and I plan on getting SoulSilver. Also once Dawn was introduced into the anime I stopped watching it. I liked May a lot, she's my favorite but I also have a soft spot for Misty because she was my original favorite character. Dawn...I don't like too much and it is getting repetitive. The series started getting old well crap I can't remember. Maybe after Tracy left and Brock re-joined the group? But I have a soft spot for May and Max even though the series was weak by then. Maybe once they boot Dawn out I'll start watching Pokemon again. I heard a rumor the new girl in SoulSilver and HeartGold will be an anime character. Whether she'll be main or secondary is unknown. Also the manga versions of the anime is much better and offers more variety. There's the manga version which details Ash and the gang but I find more entertaining(it's not like the show, things are portrayed differently and I find it more enjoyable then the show. Though I've only read like one or two of that series.) Pokemon Adventures follows the gang sort of. Instead of Gary and Ash it's Red and Green(Though he's also called Blue but his real name is Green but they kept it Blue/Gary in the American version because we never got Pokemon Green amongst a couple other reasons.). Then the other characters are Blue/Green(She's the leafgreen girl though she's been in the series long before that game), Yellow(whose a girl whom pretends to be a boy for a while. And she's pyschic go figure), Silver, Gold, Crystal, Emerald, Diamond/Dia, Pearl, Platina/Platinum. Basically there's a character for each non remade game. Well for Diamond, Pearl and Platinum...Diamond is the boy character you can choose to be in the game/or the assistant if your the girl, Pearl is your rival/friend from the game and Platina is the girl. Anyways I could go on, like how there's psychic powers, the Elite Four being evil etc etc. It's a good manga as is the one loosely based off the anime series. I've only played as Firion, Zidane and Cecil so far. And out of them I like Firion the best. I like his attacks you do when in mid-air. I love using long range and magic attacks so yeah. So I also like Paladin Cecil too. ____________________ |

Haha you know I was just about to say those ones too. Especially Illusion of Gaia. After all Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma are all well can you say their a trilogy of sorts?
Then there's also the Dragon Quest series, Sailor Moon RPG, Slayers RPG, Ranma, Rayearth, Tenchi, Shin Megami Tensei 1+2. Though not counting the DQ series those ones are a bit less known. I also love the manga series and I want to read the books and novels now too. I haven't come across the first season of Slayers on DVD yet. Maybe their just all sold out or out of stock everytime I look. Well if your going to call Digimon a knock off of Pokemon then Pokemon is a knock off of many of the various MegaTen games. After all they started the collecting monsters thing. Except instead of monsters it was demons. Oooh yeah. I heard a rumor the DemiKids games was made as a way to spite Pokemon but it's probably just a rumor. Anyways I own more Pokemon games then Digimon but it's hard to decide...Well I'll say Digimon. I've been playing Dusk lately and I'm waiting for Pokemon Soul Silver to come out in America anyways. I'm also waiting for them to make a new Digimon season. Hey if Beyblade gets a new anime why not Digimon which is just as popular as Pokemon(at least in Japan). ____________________ |

How upsetting. I love Chrono Trigger but Terranigma is quite possibly my favorite SNES game and maybe even possibly one of my favorite video games. It at least is in the top ten, no probably the top five or three. It's that great. Chrono Trigger is awesome too but I didn't play Terranigma till last year and considering games and anime and manga these days usually don't blow my mind away(there are some exceptions)and just the fact Terranigma blew my mind away...Well that was enough to win me over. Of course CT was amazing when I first played it as well. But Terranigma has my vote. ____________________ |

Haha I was totally gonna vote for Chrono Trigger but then I saw poor Star Ocean had zero votes which is a bummer considering I totally love that game. All those games are great games though. But they all pale in comparison to Terranigma. But could that game be considered an RPG? Maybe more Adventure then RPG? ____________________ |

Legacy of the Wizard is my favorite. But of course I also love the Zelda and Mario games. Kirby is a great game too as are all the Lolo games. Can't go wrong with Dragon Warriors and Dragon Quest games series, Metroid, Casino Kid, Moon Crystal, Rainbow Islands, Batman, Startropics(I've only played the first game but there's two games), Destiny of an Emperor, Cocoron, Little Magic, Little Mermaid Castlevania Tetris and Megaman.
But once again if you want to try a new NES game try Legacy of the Wizard. I really love that game. Oh Faria is a great game especially if you like Unique RPGs as well. It has a great plot twist later on in the game too which I won't spoil for you! But once again if you want to try a new NES game try Legacy of the Wizard. I really love that game. The first PS1 I owned was Wake Boarding or something, I won my PS1 and it came with it. The first PS1 game I bought was FF8, but I had already played FF7 before that I just never owned my own copy. FF8 was awesome when I first got it as was FF7 and FF9. Though FF7 is a good game it's just over-hyped or however you call it. FF9 is my personal favorite.
My first GBA game? That's easy it was Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland. My aunt had bought me a game to go with it. My first game after that was probably Sword of Mana or a Pokemon game. I don't have many 360 games for one so I like Blue Dragon, KOTOR and Jade Empire the best. I have two other games for the 360 which is Circle Under Fire and DDR so yeah. XD Those three that I said in my first sentence are my favorite of them. I need more games for the 360 like Halo, Mass Effect, Bioshock or Fable or something man. ____________________ |
