I'm from Britain so things work differently over here technically speaking I'm already 2 years in to college, For university however I plan to do a 3 year course in Business Economics, this will let me enrol at a financial analyst position in some big banks from there i can keep moving on up until i can become ceo of a big bank, i don't think i have enough motivation however to go that far so i think ill probably just stop at senior analyst, their pay is ridiculously good and at the end of the day that's all I'm really there for :p

Wow as far as telecasters go that's pretty cheap my friend bought one from a high street in .. Someplace i forgot anyway it was over £1000 because you can get replicas made by tanglewood or other copy cat companies the quality may not be as good as the original fender.
But i see the fender sign on the head and in the link so all is fine, maybe guitars are cheaper in America Like thenumberone asked do you play electric only or do you like acoustic as well and whats your current guitar, seeing as I don't play much anymore I've pretty much just stuck with my second guitar its an ltd- ec150 basically a Les Paul mimic but still a very good guitar i think i bought it at around £350. septembern: Nice it's good to study what you enjoy anyway it gives you motivation which you seem to have in the subject so kudos Across the pond in Britain we study statistics, relationships, psychopathology's in year 13 or '6th form' and a quite a few other topics last year. I completely agree though, that psychology has to be one of the most enjoyable subjects while I enjoy statistics the most because i like how all the systems work and stuff I find psychopathology's VERY interesting. It's just so surprising that even if your born with one slight malfunction in one part of the brain you could suffer from some really peculiar psychopathology's. Have you read 'the man who thought his wife was a hat', If your into psychology I would definitely give that book a go, really interesting stuff. Anyway I hope you do well in your studies, hopefully you'll get the career you want out of it and good Luck :p Across the pond in Britain we study statistics, relationships, psychopathology's in year 13 or '6th form' and a quite a few other topics last year. Yeah i think twitter is definitely more addictive than facebook or drugs, it something you can dip in and out of way too much and of course people get suprised in how much spare time they actually have to post their murmuring on twitter for their friends to see. I too am one of those people :p

I remember there was a psychology study to see the differences in relationships between genders of people that watch porn and that don't and on trying to find men that didn't watch porn they couldn't find one person, ill have to look back into my psychology books and find the study to link it and edit this later but its true the porn industry is humongous.
As for addiction I didn't realise it was so serious i don't think i know one person that doesn't watch porn whos a guy and i have many friends that are girls who watch it. Also I know for a fact that some couples actually watch porn together not because they need to, to get aroused as in over an addiction but out of pleasure, they can function adequately without it anyway but occasionally prefer to watch it together. I think it takes a lot for a person to get a heavy addiction to porn and some statistics may not be reliable but it is true that some bad events have transpired with blame being laid on porn. Lets not forget Ted Bundy blamed his psychosis on violent porn. This however is very rare and although I'm not trying to advertise porn (i don't need to) I will say I don't think it's as bad as a few people make it out to be like, a lot of the time it's just something to do out of boredom. SEEN IT! It was brilliant I didn't read the books beforehand but it was still amazing. Action, drama, funny looking people and the guy out of zombielands in it so all in all good film. Oh and of course the storyline in genius. At first i thought it was going to be a rip off of battle royale but even though they have similarities I think The hunger games was a real improvement on it not to mention had a completely different plot line despite the striking similarities.

Whenever I go round my friends house the bunch of us undoubtedly always end up watching pulp fiction the and fall asleep half way through, not that its a bad film, its a brilliant film but just because we often watch it at like 3 o clock in the morning or something and these group of friends tend to be heavy drinkers or 'substance consumers'. Anyway i love the film to pieces its got everything you want from a film, john Travolta and Samuel L Jackson -------------------- |

I should probably of read some other thread in Films first before making this one, so this is just going to be a review and questions really. :p
If any ones seen super 8 it's about life in 70's suburbia I won't spoil it for you but I find it to be a good little nostalgic film. Afterwards i listened to a song called the suburbs by Arcade Fire which also has a mini movie it was made for which is called Scenes from suburbia or something. Running through all these media types is the same theme of how life is and was in those kind of places and it got me wondering, is there any American people here that still live in those kind of cul de sacs and have really close relationships with friends that you can see in super 8 or the suburbs music video. This stuff really interests me and I'm just curious as to what life is actually like in these kinds of places or whether the media has romanticised how the suburbs are too much. To conclude I guess Super 8 is a brilliant film and although it seems like complete and utter cheesy-ness at the beginning, you really do get a sense of the times through the film and because of the fact you can really feel that essence I give it an 8/10 as not many films these days give you a real feel for the movie and a lot of the time is just diluted with too many explosions and action scenes with no real plot. Thank you for your time. If any ones seen super 8 it's about life in 70's suburbia I won't spoil it for you but I find it to be a good little nostalgic film. Yeah I'm pretty good at detecting peoples emotion but if I can't help them with it then theres nothing I can do really. If their feeling sad and i ask if they want to talk about it and they say no you pretty much have to grind your way through conversations so they don't feel left out or get even more sad, hate it when that happens.

I too am a meteor believer, it hit the deserts which knocked all the dust particles high into atmosphere which not only got carried by the winds but earth, gravel and ground of all sorts were knocked high blocking out the sun so only few plants and animals could survive. The meteorite hit in Mexico ( i think it was Mexico) still has a large crater which is what scientists believe was the actual crash site.
Obviously we are one of the surviving species and although (obviously) we weren't in dinosaur times our ancestors (only if you believe in evolution) survived and turns out only animals under 50kg survived, there was not a distinct line where a 51kg animal died or whatever but most animals under that weight survived as they only needed a small amount of nutrients to keep them alive. So if a meteor that size does hit us again we'll most probably die out, but don't worry Jupiter's gravitational pull is so large we're likely to be unaffected by meteorite hits until Jupiter's orbit changes slightly which will take millions of years. And that is the power of an astronomy course and a few documentaries, theres a ton more stuff but it's long and gets boring and anyway that's what I believe :p Obviously we are one of the surviving species and although (obviously) we weren't in dinosaur times our ancestors (only if you believe in evolution) survived and turns out only animals under 50kg survived, there was not a distinct line where a 51kg animal died or whatever but most animals under that weight survived as they only needed a small amount of nutrients to keep them alive. I too do psychology I'm on my last few modules now in sixth form before university. I don't know where you live but this kind of sounds like an American syllabus. In Britain we also study statistics.
But yes psychologists need empirical evidence to whatever theory they have in their head whether it be a 'one-tailed hypothesis' meaning a prediction that a test will render results which he would find to go in one direction. For example boy are better than girls would be a 1 tailed hypothesis whereas, there is a difference between boys and girls would be a two tailed hypothesis. Either way proof is need and empirical evidence can't always be used if the data is subjective. There is 4 types of data; Interval, nominal, ordinal and ratio. Depending on your type of hypothesis, type of data used and study design. For example independent design, matched pairs, correlation, etc.. A series of statistical tests are available to you ranging from the Mann Whitney-U- test, wilcoxon, Chi Squared, etc... This kind of stuff is very mathematical though and hard to understand if you weren't taught, it involves critical values, P As for mean results you right even though its the most commonly used it's affected by extreme samples as you've said, which is why psychologists use standard deviation to assess what the true average is while seeing how far away from the true average extreme variables are (called anomalies). Sometimes however the mean is not needed and so mode, range and even median can show a better outline of a particular study. Another problem however is publication bias, for example 10 tests might prove that gaming gives you superpowers but in fact 100 other tests have said otherwise but did not get published because they had to accept their 'null hypothesis' (when they fail a stat test like a chi squared, etc..) and so do not get published. But yeah nice thread glad to see other people study psychology here too there textbooks more stuff i could say on the subject but this is all i really need to revise on lol so thanks :p do you take an actual psychology course as well then? When i used to go to scout camp and we had too many flies, you have to get a 2 litre bottle of coca cola or other drink and cut off the top of the bottle and put it back on the other way around so you have an inverted top of the bottle. Take the lid back off fill it with strawberry jam or some other cheap and sweet substance but not all the way of course, not even quarter, just enough for the smell to get around. Put the top back on and leave it.
The flies become attracted to it but cant get back out because they can only get out through the tiny hole they came in through. Once in scouts we caught no fewer than 12 in one bottle which was crowded as it was, then go out in the garden or for us deeper into the Forrest and let them go by taking the lid off, be careful you don't catch a wasp though because it will still you in anger after you trapped it for so long. Good luck. The flies become attracted to it but cant get back out because they can only get out through the tiny hole they came in through.
