And I'm the rabid one?

Doing this thing right is much more important than getting it anywhere close to the "birthdate." It is more significant that Chrono Trigger has aged that much than it would have been if we had claimed released this on its birthday anyway.

Plus, we are gonna have to get used to the helpless feeling of waiting anyway, because after we send it to Square there is going to be a very long wait time before we hear anything from them. Somehow I doubt the relief of having the work taken out of our hands will be able to subdue the anticipation we will be feeling.

Alright. My life's pretty much figured out now. I've read through everything that's been going on, seems like you guys are doing well. Just thought I'd let you know I'm back, and I'll be here as long as no hurricanes hit NO again, or Pennsylvania for that matter, to which I've run away for the semester.

I do not think translating into Japanese is a good idea. From what I got out of SE of America's correspondence with us, it seems they want to be the mediator between SE of Japan and us. This relationship places the burden of sending the petition to Japan on them. They are our contact. Recently I've seen translating the petition for them spoken of as a personal favor, as if for a friend. That's not the relationship we have with them. They may be doing us a huge service, but this is still a professional relationship. In the professional world, doing someone else's work for them is not looked at the same way. It will likely send the message that we think we are more qualified to translate it than they.

Furthermore, considering the fact that SE of Japan probably has a whole lot of people that speak English, all SE of America would need to do is send the English version of the petition over to them, and let the people at SE of Japan translate it if need be. These translators would not only be more qualified in translating between the two languages than anyone we would be likely to find, but they would also be more familiar with Japanese law and business practices, so would be able to convey the exact same idea in a translated version to their superiors as our version is conveying to SE of America.

I will support any decision that this petition team decides upon, but I think it would be a waste of time to translate it ourselves.

Yeah, the stuff they're showing on TV is mainly for emotional shock value. It's actually worse than that, but they can't portray it with pictures. New Orleans is screwed for a long time. I can fill you in on why later.

I'm going to be out of commission for a little while longer. Katrina kicked my ass, (I live in New Orleans) and I need to find a new school and replace my possessions. Sorry. I'll be back to help as soon as I can. My cell number is (651-343-7803). You can reach me there at any point during the day. I'll be happy to help if you give me a call, but I don't have time to read all the responses since my last post, or to check new responses until a bit later. My name's Pete, just so you know who you're calling.

Hey guys, really sorry, but I recently moved down to school from across the country, and my roommates neglected to tell me that they got caught stealing cable while I was in transit, so our internet got shut off. I can make it to campus every few days to check my email, but I might not get internet at my house for another week or two.

The petition is complete. I see no need to change it; I think messing with it too much will make it sound unnatural. That part of the process is over.

For the time being, I dowloaded all your replies from this topic onto my computer, and will address them the next time I check my mail, either tomorrow or the next day.

Of course, I'd like to be in a leadership role down here, and when I can check my mail and everything I can help organize everything.

Let me know.

Have you read my proposed plan for handling the petition on CT:RP? I'm not sure what you're planning, but give this some thought. I will paste my post here.

"You underestimate the usefulness that an e-mail based system will provide. There is no need for anyone to print out copies of the petition to sign until we are ready to send them to Square. Hard copies are much less instantaneous than e-mail, more easily lost, less original (legally speaking) and create more complications than e-mail copies. Groups and group leaders are fine. However, the groups the leaders control don't need to run around gathering signatures on pieces of paper. They should show the petition to people, ask them if they would be willing to sign it and mail it at a later date, and add their e-mail address to the group list. Once there are enough cumulative "signatures" on the group lists the group leaders will send a bulk e-mail to each address on the list asking them to fulfill their promise by printing out the enclosed petition, signing it, and sending it to Square at the address provided. This method should be much easier to manage, and be just as effective, as well as allowing all the letters to be sent in a much shorter time interval, providing a greater shock for Square."

So, basically we write down the names and email addresses of people who are willing to sign it, print it out and send it to Square. Then, once we feel we have enough signatures, we send each one of them identical emails asking them to print it out, sign it, and then send it to Square. Apocalypse also added that maybe we should have each person who signs the petition send it to the group leaders, who would send the letters in bulk. This might be more effective, but also would be more costly.

Here is the petition as it stands now:

"We are Chrono Trigger fans who believe the time has come for Square Enix Co., Ltd., to remake the game. Several recent fan attempts to produce a remake reflect that belief.

The original release of Chrono Trigger on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System gave players an unprecedent sense of involvement. Those players became and remained fans, and the re-release of Chrono Trigger on Playstation further broadened the fan base. Using recent advances in game-making technology to remake the game would give those fans access to a system more capable of presenting the game's complex world, storyline, and characters.

We can promise our own enthusiastic support for a remake, and we expect that other fans will do the same. Those who are not yet fans will have an additional and powerful reason to join us.

Thank you for your time,"

Several of you are talking about translating it into Japanese. I don't think this is absolutely necessary; the division of Square we are sending this to might be based in Japan, but I think it would be foolish to believe they wouldn't be able to read English. Because it would only be done to add convenience, we should only do it if we can do it right. In other words, we need a very skilled translator. Even if they had to take it to someone else in the department to translate it, a petition in English would be a whole lot more convenient for them than a petition in Japanese that doesn't make sense. So, how are you planning on doing this?

You two misunderstand me. I simply meant that a new topic in this forum should be started in which we could discuss the organization of the petition and things of that nature. We are not at the stage yet at which publicity should be our main concern. We do not yet need to relocate for that reason. For now we just need a place where we can plan it out. Here will do.

I suggest we move discussion directly relating to the petition to a different section of the forum designed to focus on the petition. As the current update topic is closed, perhaps a new one should be opened. We can then post the new copy of the petition and continue the conversation from the CT:RP forums.
