We usually play official (none altered) games for these competitions but in cases like this it would be nice to have a hacked version that solely prevented these types of glitches.

So there is no way to pause the timer in the time trial. I was thinking of testing this by clicking away from the window (which pauses the emulator) and see if the time still matched up to the timer on my watch. Oh well good to know. For this competition I had to eat a mouth full of food in between loops. Bathroom breaks were out of the question but I did prepare for that.

Yeah Ninja Gaiden is pretty crazy. And I was hoping level 7 would be easy. I should know better as "Aldynes" and "easy" should never be mentioned together.

Yeah rcarter2 mentioned finishing it without save states in his review of the game. I can't wait to post my score as well. I can get to level 7 without save states but have not attempted to master it yet.

rcarter2 : Got it. Good thing you corrected that because I was about ready to search all over at the end of Green Hill Zone act 3.

rcarter2 : So they are in act 3 as well, must be near the pod you release the animals from. Sounds like something ideal to explore with save states.

There are points scattered around the very end of every first 2 acts. You simply jump around and find them. Normally they're organized into large arcs.  There is one worth 10,000 points and at times offset from the rest. If you time it just right you can turn around and jump through the end screen again collection more points or try to find the 10,000 point bonus if you missed it. Extra 20,000 plus points at the end of every first 2 acts.

Everything seems to function properly except uploading highscores for Bonk's Adventure. I've tried another Turbo Grafx game (Keith Courage) which worked fine.

I was hoping to get a reply from rcarter2. That news definitely gets me excited. I remember the first time I stumbled upon a speedrun for Super Metroid on youtube thinking my time was pretty awesome. I was blown away by what I saw. If you don't know what the mach ball maneuver is you should check it out. I hear you Someone70. Sonic would be great considering speed has always been a staple of the series.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE competing for highscores, but not all games have point systems. I would like to see "Compete for Highscore" and "Compete for Best Time" being two separate options. We know that competing for highscores already keeps track of our time so it may not be too far of a stretch, I hope. This would give competitive value to many more games such as Metroid, Zelda, and Final Fantasy as well as additional competitive value to all games with point systems. Granted many people play RPGs so they can take their time exploring everything and leveling up to put a serious hurting on the game's antagonists. However, once you figure out where all the important items are and what minimum level you can be at to just barely proceed, it is quite an exhilarating experience to see hours shaved off your original time and to fight a boss knowing that you have to do EVERYTHING right to win.

After playing the other Sonic games I did the same thing, hold down and press the buttons but to no avail. You can spin but you need to be moving first then press down. It's the only way to use some major shortcuts and find lots of cool stuff in this version. This does mean however you cannot use it to scale high quarter pipes like the other versions.

It's very interesting to see why people like particular games. Some have very detailed reasons (story, gameplay, etc.) and others just feel some kind of irresistible charm embedded within (hamsters). I think many things can influence why we adhere to particular games so much. It could be because nostalgia reminds one of simpler times or the gameplay and world created simply tickles our fancy. I definitely love my FFVI and FFVII. The relic and materia systems, respectively, are so much fun to fiddle around with. Need I say anything about how good the music and mythology is? I also love retro arcades like Donkey Kong and Pac-Man because I can use the scientific method to try and master them. They have a small enough number of programs that you can actually attempt to figure them all out.
Hypothesis: Ghosts blink 5 times before returning to normal.
Test hypothesis: Confirmed.
Conclusion: Less dying by gambling on when the ghosts return to normal.
Lastly, I do enjoy every Metroid game. Being a biologist, I appreciate their unique alien creatures and environments as much thought was put into them. Particularly the Prime series caught my attention as you can scan different organisms and find out information regarding their physiology and ecology. Kind of biased I agree but I cannot deny the love I have for this created mythology as well as the Castlevania style level progression.

I am also surprised as rcarter2 likely maxed out the score at 999,950. I was hoping the score would max out at some point but the game let me break a million. Perhaps the game's programming allows this if achieved later in the game. I was in the "Magic Bubbles" stage when this occurred.

Hi everyone. Awesome website. I've been trying to post highscores for a while now and eventually ran into this site. I enjoy a lot of classic Nintendo stuff like Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong jr, and Mario Bros but I'd like to compete in many more games across all platforms. Things got really interesting when rcarter2 and I were going back and forth for the Double Dragon (NES) highscore. Not much more under my sleeve but I love formulating new strategies in respect to point making efficiency.

One of the more recent hypothesize is disease. When  large animals become congested (in numbers) they are more susceptible to transmitting viruses or other parasitic pathogens like nematodes.
