Happy Thanksgiving! *BIG GROUP HUG*

I'm actually really happy today, because I have the stomach bug, but I woke up at 4 a.m. after 10 good hours of sleep feeling rested and ready to enjoy a good day with family.

Nineteen people are coming to my parents' house, and we will be eating delicious food prepared by many and probably playing board and card games.

warmaker : I'm not entirely sure what's up, as I didn't see Herpy's post before it got edited, but I am pretty sure whatever he said I would have been okay with. We have a bit of rapport from many discussions we've had in the past. As far as the "Herpy" thing is concerned, that's partly an inside joke. As I understand, it's also the name of his OC, Herpy Dooves, that's in his avatar right now.

sonicmcmuffin : I'm glad you enjoyed it. C:

Light Knight : Yeah, I think we're in agreement on this. For my part, I'll try and be a bit more sensible with my complaints.

Also, on the post thing, one thing you can actually count on me to do - if I'm going to respond to a thread, I will read everything in it.

Light Knight, thanks for posting this. As a user who has been here off and on for a little while and been close friends with a couple mods, this is still information that I either did not know or had forgotten. You make some really good points here.

I would like to make a couple points from the other side of this, though.?I don't claim at all to be a sinless user (mods know I'm not<3), and I've definitely been guilty about griping about mods with little provocation. But a couple things deserve to be said.

Light Knight : "If mods can't report a user without proof, does it make sense that a user can accuse mods of being killjoys without proof?"

It would partly depend on how you define "accuse." If you are talking about what a user says to a moderator's face, then as a matter of courtesy, it doesn't make sense for that user to flame a mod without cause. Or, really, at all. I'm not saying I haven't done it. But as a matter of principle, your example seems to me a difference between justice and free speech. It encourages justice for individual moderators to have to form their decisions by group consensus. It does not encourage free speech, or, I believe, justice, for members to be *required* to provide proof when they accuse a mod. And I'm not really saying that you were suggesting a requirement, but it did come across as close to that line.

I know that David is under little obligation to enforce free speech on his site, but it nevertheless seems like a good idea to encourage people to be able to speak freely about authority, and of course, the site in general. Free speech *usually* looks really ugly in practice. But that doesn't change me thinking it's important to let users have their say, even without proof in hand - all this to a fair extent.

rcarter2: "Honestly, I think the ones who really complain are the ones who don't like having to keep their comments family friendly, cut and dry."

I speak as a user who really complains about the mods. A lot of my complaints may be unwarranted. But some of them relate not to the decisions that are discussed in the forums, but to threats that made little sense. The clearest example I remember was a comment about how a discussion was an argument and it should stop. I have no desire to report these events, as they happened a while ago, and I don't share an example to tell anyone off so much as to point out that maybe some of the complaints aren't really about being family friendly.

I kind of want to apologize for how long this post became. It looks a whole lot more like a rant than I mean it to with this wall of text. :V I'm just really not that good at brevity when I have any kind of point to make. Oh well.

As many of you may know, I recently challenged the Illustrious Magnifico Herpiosa to a duel. As may be obvious from my forum pic, I lost said duel. As punishment for my imbecility, I must now write a 300 word post expounding on the virtues of the one, the only, the

sonicmcmuffin : One thing I appreciate about Mr. Derps is that he is a really good listener. He's willing to sit for hours and listen to pointless crap, and it isn't a strain on him to do it. It doesn't mean he's going to act like your problems are the saddest crap in the world, but it does mean he'll take the time to let people vent.

Muffin's often going to say what he thinks to someone – if he thinks they should suck something up and deal with it, chances are they'll soon learn this. He'll say things that people may not really want to hear, but it's his ability to look past what other people think about him that makes it possible for him to help people in ways others might be afraid to. Herpy Dooves doesn't spend time making people believe he is someone he's not; he works to live with integrity – and that means not sucking up to people, but being pretty honest with them. It also means that his compliments, when given, are sincere and not some kind of put on.

I think Herpy actually sees the good, and the fun, in the worst kinds of situations. Crappy situations become jokes, and good ones are really good, even if there is maybe a lot of irony thrown into the mix. He'll stay bright even when things are miserable.

And of course, lastly (oh come on Herpy you knew I was going to say this), he really cares about his friends. When they're feeling down he's willing to cheer them up, even if it's just by singing random 90s songs off key in a really high-pitched voice or sending dumb MLP links to make them laugh. Or talking about stuff that neither person can even remember the day after. He wants to see his friends well. And that is pretty special.

After much procrastination, your post, with as little sarcasm as possible. x
Much love,
CatLazy

I think we have someone to broadcast this already. And also, if I am not mistaken, both of our computers are crappy.

I am afraid I have to postpone this even longer due to homework issues and such. But there will definitely be an announcement when we set a time.

Well, I can't say I experience any shame whatever in having video game crushes. If you've ever seen me in chat, you'll notice my Frog avatar from Chrono Trigger. If I ever met a man with that kind of duty and loyalty to his friends, I would probably be swooning. He is one of my faves. <3<3<3

Also, I just played WarCraft III, and I have to be honest with you... I developed a bit of a thing for Thrall, the orc. He has a good head on his shoulders. What can I say? I apparently like green men.

Fascinating. I, for one, have so little understanding of what's going on in the government to have too strong an opinion, but my bent for freedom of information and protection of privacy over other concerns tells me that this is a very good thing. I'll be interested to see what others have to say about it.

sonicmcmuffin : Delighted to hear your favorable response. My most humble apologies at misspelling your name, Herpiosa. I see one issue with your proposal. If we have two challenges and we both win one, how do we determine who is the winner? o.O I have an idea. We should rely on the community to provide a tie breaker. Suggestions? (Keep it something that crappy computers can handle). For my challenge I propose a chess match on Chess.com.

I'll have to postpone the challenge for a day or two, and I'll send you some times. I have to write a paper for my final class of college, and you're a Brit with a wonky time zone.

Juliet : That sounds like fun, but we'll have to see if Derpy's up for that and how we could pull it off.

B619ook : Thank you (:

I appreciate the support the community has bestowed upon me. *Braces herself* A song for this auspicious occasion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVhRb8v0_Qs

sonicmcmuffin : Your insult upon my character has not gone past my attention. I strongly deny that I do, ever have or ever will sucketh. Among other insults to my character, you have also implied that I am smelly, that I occasionally look awkward, and that I maybe procrastinate a little. I have decided to redress these crimes in the most civilized and brutal way possible.

To the Illustrious Magnifico Derpiosa: I heretofore challenge you to a duel.

If you choose to accept my challenge, as I hope you will, it is up to you to pick the nature of the duel. We may play internet chess, cards or anything else that my crappy computer and internet speed can handle. (I'll even play you at OSU!)

The loser must make a post of length at least 300 words expounding upon the virtues of the winner. The winner gets to pick a photo that the loser must use as his forum picture for at least one week (provided it is within the rules of the site).

I have made my offer. I await your reply.

Sincerely,
CatLazy
