danielbelitch : Wow! Someone takes this seriously. The 77 hours on your trainer card is every minute of the month so far and then some. Do you sleep? Speaking of, I should hit the hay, but not before I register my progress. ![]() Cha-ching! P3 Speaking of, I should hit the hay, but not before I register my progress. ![]() Cha-ching! Well, darn my socks. If I had just submitted one, my name would be up there too. In truth, I didn't know there would be so many winners. I figured there was a top prize and that's it. When I started playing, I saw one that said, Pokedex 300 and so decided not to submit until I got at least that many. I did play with the intention of winning though. That is a shame. -------------------- |

Some differences between Pokémon Chaos Black and Pokémon Fire Red, you may notice right away. Bulbasaur is now a Grass/Electric type Pokémon called Magid. His volt absorb ability will fully protect him from electricity damage while crediting him with one quarter the amount of his full HP. Charmander is now a baby lion called Flaon. He has a mane so maybe he is not exactly a cub. He is cute though. Caterpie is now an antennaed fat little green bug called Tase. He is part normal type. It will evolve into Podcoon. Podcoon is simply Bug type. Pidgey is now a pokey appendaged red and yellow single horned reptile. Normal/Poison is its new type. It is now named Shizard and evolves into Shicoon. Shicoon is a Steel/Poison type. Fearow seems to have changed in appearance and name only. It is now Minite and is shaped like a blue-eyed marshmallow with baby blue cotton candy attached. Seel is now called Abel and looks like a cute little abominable snowman. Cloyster is now called Graag and looks somewhat like a red/gold/brown Tyrannosaurus Rex. When you put it first in battle, it will not be visible. When switching to it in mid-battle, it will take the appearance of your previous Pokémon with the colour scheme of Graag. Muk is now called Esplime. It looks more like a micro-organism than the pile of sludge it once was. Any of the above plus Mankey, Rattata, Spearow and Weedle can be obtained before your second trainer battle. The villages look about the same but the routes appear to be reformed as mazes. Cool! The location indicator will activate for some of the routes, but will be blank for village names. It appears you need CUT to unlock all the secrets of route 2. GRAPHICS The new Pokémon images are not quite as high quality as Pokémon Fire Red images are, but they are spot-on as far as original creativity goes. They are all just simple drawings that are so basic and fundamental the "big brains" at Game Freak would pass on them instantly. For these reasons, the imagery retains a high rating by my standards. SOUNDS The Pokémon cries are the same even for the altered Pokémon. Apparently, no effort has been made make up new ones for the new Pokémon. The music is the same. I have nothing new to report. DEPTH I would not call this a quick game unless I had 30+ hours a week to devote to gaming, which I do not. To get from town to town takes extended periods because of maze-like routes patched with grass. Before you even beat the first Gym Leader, it is already time to make dinner. I would like to catch Esplime and Spearow before moving forward. You may prefer to rush through the game catching very few Pokémon, training fewer powerhouses and taking on the Elite 4 with in 30 hours if you are one of those instant gratifiers who just wants to be the champion. I like to take my time, explore, train many strong fighters and generally go undefeated in my games. Even that does not matter much so long as I do not lose much unspent Yen. DIFFICULTY The main problem with this game is learning how to battle your Pokémon all over again. They look different, evolve into different types, and previous evolutions may not exist at all. A secondary irk presents itself in finding your way to the next town. Route 2 is like a Team Rocket hideout sans Team Rocket. STORY Catch Pokémon, battle trainers, win badges and defeat the Elite 4 and you will be the champion. ADDICTIVE Some games are only as good as their last play. If a game starts to bore you, start playing another game instead. The thing that keeps me playing this game is the new species discovery. Any creature you can imagine can be a Pokémon. We do not have to play only with the ones Nintendo minds thought up. I am finding new beasts on every route. I get a jolt of excitement when I see one I have not before. In summary, if you look for what is new and exciting about Pokémon Chaos Black, you will probably find it. You would have to look for it though. I do not usually give tens across the board, but this game is solid. Entirely new dialog The starter Pokémon selection commentary is changed, a rival trying to act a little too nice seems weird and a long-winded explanation on Poke balls took many taps to get through. After you battle the first trainer on route, it seems apparent that this game explains everything as you go along. Luckily, that is not the case. Different Map Layout The towns look different. The character names are all changed. I caught Paras, Vulpix, Clefairy, Zubat and Geodude right away in a southern cave. Abra also appears in the cave, but of course, you will not catch him right away. In addition, as soon as you get singing Pokémon that is fast enough to catch him, he fails to appear on six consecutive walks through the cave. Bummer. After the last trainer in the first segment of the cave, you can just walk right through some rocks dead ahead. Rockets have taken over the second part of the cave. You have your second rival battle right outside the first gym. To make up for startling you, he heals your Pokémon for you before the battle. Pokedex seems to be the one thing that has not changed or adapted to the Rijon region. I have battled Torchic, Mudkip and Treecko, but they are not showing up on the dex. The map has not changed in the Pokémon locator function of Pokedex. That is too bad because the Rijon region is entirely different from any other game. There is some talk about upgrading to the National Dex if you talk to the right people. I hope it happens soon. Underground Path I found an ice heal, paralysis heal, and a potion by checking every square step in the first underground path. Game Play I have noticed that the minor annoyance of that horrible continuous dinging when your Pokémon's health is low is curiously absent. There is a plus. Another plus is that the first gym leader's sister gives you a Water Stone every time you go back to her route. I have ten now. I like the unfamiliar plot line and trainer battle sequence. I have not been this curious about a Pokémon adventure since I started playing the Hoenn games. You cannot catch Caterpie before level 14 or Metapod before level 10. Kadabra will appear on the same route as Caterpie, but hits and runs before you can do anything about it. Difficulty definitely rates high for such woes as these. The Cinnabar scientists are in the third town so I can get my fossil Pokémon quick. After beating the Nugget Pass trainers, I found that I could get back to Seashore City by heading South on the Hayward Docks. Going back to Merson Cave one more time from Gravel Town, I find many Abra in the entrance tunnel. The only problem is they always seem to know just when to wake up to foil the catch. I have been in the cave for hours. In catching an Abra, it is better to be lucky than good at it. My luck still has not lined up. When it finally does, a trainer just North of Hayward Docks will swap a Mr. Mime for an Abra. Graphics The picture is just as good as Pokémon Fire Red. The programmer must really know what he is doing. Even Pokémon that do not originate in Pokémon Fire Red look perfect. I hope I can catch some of those soon. Apparently, I cannot get them until I upgrade to National Dex status. Depth Just when I think I have figured this one out, there is another surprise waiting for me. It is exciting to be unaware of exactly what is in store, yet I know if I devote the hours, I will figure this maze world out. Every corner of Rijon seems to have a temporarily barred exit into another previously introduced land of Pokémon adventure. This game could go on forever with Rijon being the central province of the Pokémon country. Sound Did I mention there is no annoying bell chiming when my health is low? I did. It is possible that I have started to take that for granted. Every Pokémon compatible with Fire Red Version is here in some form (mostly opponents) and their cries programmed in flawlessly. Even Bayleef sounded like itself. The music is the best ever. I crank it. Difficulty It is hard to figure this one out. Getting through the game with a box full of Pokémon in their teens makes for slow progress. Having a variety in my party helps me look for the type advantage. Catching many different kinds early helped with that, but also slowed the game down because I like to raise them evenly. I feel baffled. Addictive You cannot get enough of this game. I have seen so many twists and turns already and I am not even at the second gym yet. Most Pokémon adventures have you traveling in a generally straight course, occasionally taking a left or right turn. I am assuming this one keeps you guessing to the end. As the story unfolds, you will find yourself getting more and more into it. Game on! Story The storyline follows the basic platform set forth in all Pokémon adventures. You start at your house in Seashore City and walk to Gravel Town to collect your starter Pokémon. The professor is a woman of course (and about time!) She has a nice long chat with you and your surprisingly friendly rival from Seashore City. The rival stops you for a battle on the way out of the lab. You may buy Poke balls from the post office. Your Dad becomes your first Pokémon healer. The only way past Gravel Town is through Merson Cave. There is a Pokémon centre halfway through it where you can also buy stuff. The first gym is in Merson City just beyond Merson Cave. He uses Water type Pokémon, of course. North of Merson City is a tower where you can snag an Eevee if you think it will help you. Many trainers await you on your journey. You gain much yen, experience, strength and knowledge by defeating them. Good luck, Champ! Davideo7 : I guess you just left out "the how". How do you specify which slot you want a file moved to? "How" do you recover a file to be used in your game window? Also, "the what", as in: what buttons do you press to do these tasks? The Save File Manager page says you can do these things, but is lacking in specifics on how to do it. Read the page over and what I'm saying will make sense. P3 P3 -------------------- |

Davideo7 : Thank you. There were no clear instructions on exactly what to do in the Sale File Manager page, but whatever I did recovered my most recent file that I started on Sunday. It really helped that the Save File Manager link was at the top of the RGR page. I would have taken a lot longer to find it if it wasn't in such a high traffic area. Kudos! I was playing Ash's Quest early last week with my old save file. Everything seemed normal. I played again yesterday, but my old save file was gone. I saved a new AQ file yesterday and tried to play it again today, but that file disappeared too. The really weird thing is it keeps saying "save state download complete" as if somehow it was working. Is there any hope that my old file can be restored? If not, can I even hope of retaining any file in Ash's Quest? -------------------- |

I have AVG installed but don't use the toolbar or search engine or any of that extra crap they throw in. I was a little long winded on my comment. I kind of wrote a review of the site. I hope nobody minds. It's kind of what I do (analyze things). -------------------- |

This emulation is actually better than the real thing. The reason being: I hit a major unlimited money glitch. I went in to buy Rocket Game Coins and found that I just was not running out of money. I started with maybe 70 grand in money. After buying coins about 20 times, I figured it was deja vu, but I bought a few more coins and found that I was indeed spending the same money repeatedly. Every time I bought coins with 60 grand, my money went back up to 69 grand. I filled my coin case and redeemed for Porygon. Then I went back for more. I did not dare to believe this would last long. Ultimately, I walked away with all the prizes. I am not sure if these results are typical of the Vizzed Emulator for Pokémon Yellow. Perhaps another player can shed some light on the situation. GRAPHICS The images of Pokémon have improved a bit. The depictions from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue were not bad. These ones are better. They paid close attention to Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander, but development even reworked more obscure ones like Mew, Onix, Chansey, Mankey, Ekans and Koffing. For that reason alone, the graphics should rate a bit higher than Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. The colors are even sharper than the ones from earlier Pokémon games. The original Game Boy had a contrast dial that screwed with every image on the screen. Since this game is for Game Boy Color, the hues are quite superior. The Pikachu-follow-me function was far ahead its time. All it took was an 8-bit game with ample programming time provided by skyrocketing pre-sales for an open-minded development team to give us a completely new way to experience Pikachu in all his cuteness. This brings me to.… SOUND Yes, it is a little disappointing that we cannot hear the Ikue Ootani voice for the most popular Pokémon of all. The game is still fun without it. If I require that kind of auditory satisfaction, I need only switch on my dust covered Game Boy Color. That is the only minus when the sound is valued. Pokémon Yellow on Vizzed has perfect pitch in all ways except one. ADDICTIVENESS When I was 13, Pokémon Yellow was the newest game on the block. I got a ride to what was then a Zellers (now a Home Depot) and purchased my own copy. My family had kept "the" Game Boy well stocked in batteries since the time Game Boy Tetris and Wheel of Fortune were in vogue. Therefore, I just played Pokémon Yellow all the time. I did not want put it down. When I should have slept, I played. When my family went to a Japanese buffet, I gamed and tried to ignore the shark meat and octopus legs. Every moment I could spare, I gave to this game. Now that I have matured, I spend less time gaming. The addictive appeal of this game is still as strong as it was. It has lost nothing. If you are not careful, you could go blind from sleep deprivation. Do not get in too deep with this game. If you are thinking of Pokémon Yellow at times you should not, do yourself a favour and take a few days off. A guide dog cannot help you log on to Vizzed and play, if you cannot see. STORY The plot has changed slightly from Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Red, but not that much. Professor Oak will catch Pikachu for you at the start of the game. Then, in Oak's lab, your rival will push you out of the way to "snatch" the single Poke ball on the table. He gets an Eevee, which is no match for Pikachu at first. You will encounter trainers that were not there in previous versions. Jessie and James Team Rocket show up to ambush you at various points in the game. The same trainers in Yellow Version will use different Pokémon. Lt. Surge for instance, has a Raichu like in the show. Pikachu’s presence alters dialog and events. Keep him with you for the full experience. DEPTH and DIFFICULTY If you were to play all the way to Mewtwo's capture, catching every available species (79) of Pokémon along the way, it might take between 60 to upwards of 200 hours to finish with a complete Pokedex. Depending on your goals, it can be very difficult or very easy to finish to your satisfaction. P3 GRAPHICS The images of Pokémon have improved a bit. billythekidmonster : Well, the only thing we know for sure is, that gamefaqs.com found out about it and told everybody 8 years ago and soon everyone had a page that describes how it is done. Like me! I'm one of those people now. I chose a story format for this page so maybe I'm one of the special ones who don't get off on telling people the precise way to do things. I just find it so annoying when someone tells me directly how to do something down to the last detail which I already know about.
So to summarize, "mommy issues". I'm going to go cry into my X-men comic now. So to summarize, "mommy issues". I'm going to go cry into my X-men comic now. -------------------- |

First, I did my research. I read this page http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~jdonald/pokemon/mewglitch.html
Then, when I had read enough to understand how it worked, I beat every trainer on route 24 and 25 except the Youngster with the Slowpoke. Then I played to Vermilion City and caught Abra and Jigglypuff on the route before the city and Drowzee on the route after the City. Went trough Diglett's Cave, traded my Clefairy in for a Mr. Mime, caught a Diglett too. On the route to the right of Diglett's Cave, I noticed a trainer that was off the screen right before he saw me. Instead of facing him, I hatched a brilliant plan. Perhaps I didn't need Fly if Teleport could get me to Cerulean City before the trainer saw me. I went back to Cerulean City and healed at the centre. Then I took the four minute hike back to the trainer and saved just above where he was able to see me. He saw me before I could hit start the first time, so I exited and rebooted the game and tried again. This time I switched the return key task to my right hand (I'm right handed so it can move quicker) and managed to press return before the trainer saw me. Selecting Pokémon, I used Abra to teleport to Cerulean City. In Cerulean City, I checked to make sure my start button wasn't working. I tapped return and nothing happened. So far, so good. I approached the Youngster and battled him just as the web page said and then used Teleport again. From Cerulean City, I once again braved the hike while carefully avoiding the grass on the route before Vermilion City. When I stepped onto the route after the city, my menu popped up. Carefully pressing the key designated for the "B" button on my keyboard, I found myself in battle with Mew. He knocked out my Jigglypuff and really gave it to my level 15 Drowzee, but my tough elephant Pokémon pounded him into the red zone and put him to sleep. After that, it just took two Poke balls to catch him. That is the story of how I caught a Mew for the first time ever. I wish everyone the same success. There is also a bug catcher on the route before Vermilion. If you want to catch a Mew even sooner, go left towards his patch of grass and Teleport to Cerulean City to start the glitch. Also, save before dangling the trainer and after catching Mew only, as doing so in between will disrupt the glitch. How does anybody get this thing started? As soon as Oak stops talking, you can only move in one direction.
The above was my review for the middle emulator. Kind of anti-climactic, isn't it? The below review is for the one on the right which works much better in my opinion. Graphics This is an early version of Pokémon Blue so it looks similar. The intro isn't Gengar versus Jigglypuff. It is Gengar versus Nidorino like in Pokémon Red. The Pokémon images are from the earliest stages of release so they look a bit different. Seeing them as they are here is an experience not to pass up. The start screen features a Bulbasaur as the first Pokémon. If you wait there long enough, you will see even Pikachu looks different (chubbier). This was before the shift to color so everything is gray and white. The flowers on the ground make back and forth movements rather than circular ones. This is the least advanced Pokémon you will ever play, but there is some beauty in going back to the very start. Game play Before you start the game, you can, set the dialog speed to quick, common or slow, choose to view or pass the fighting cartoons and select rule of competition (replace or circle?). Warnings: A) In battle, you must press a or b a few extra times to get the entire extra dialog finished with. B) When you save the state, it may not always work. C) Due to an emulator issue, the game will temporarily freeze for a second or two at random points during the game. Other than that, the game play seems the same as any other Pokémon for Game Boy and functions quite fluidly. Special note: Trading for Farfetch'd in Vermilion City is a good way to get your game frozen so avoid that one. Dialog Aochider is Oak's Japanese name. People call him Dr. Pet. The grammar is terrible but you can usually take meaning from the words. Goods = Items Pet = Pokémon Contest = Battle Wound Cure = Potion Shado = Charmander Falls down = faint Monster Ball = Poke ball Torto = Squirtle Hasn't hit home = miss Detoxicate Cure = Antidote Incon = Bulbasaur Go all out = Tackle Burning Cure = Burn Heal Bobo = Pidgey Chirps = Growl Awake Cure = Awakening Kelar = Ratatta Parasite = Leech Seed Skill Machine = TM Beetl = Weedle Hit Home! = Critical Hit! Super Ball = Great Ball Catap = Caterpie Spin silk = String Shot Insecticide = Repel Silip = Drowzee Beat = Pound Sound The first sound you hear when you turn it on is a little off. I am talking about the star going through the logo sound effect. Every other sound in this version is the same as all the other Pokémon versions for Game Boy. Addictiveness This is the one Pokémon game that I actually can put down after just an hour or two. I would mark the addictiveness factor low. I will probably play again when the saving issues have had time to clear up. Difficulty The hardness of the game is where it gets much of its points. With game play issues (like saving) and irritating dialog, this one is the hardest Pokémon game I have yet encountered. Just to get through a battle is a challenge. Depth This is supposedly a full-length Pokémon adventure. Those take a minimum 60 hours to play through the complete storyline in my experience. Summary Not nearly the best game on Vizzed, but fun none the less. If you are in the market for the earliest of Pokémon versions, look no further because you have found it. Manufactured in Japan with the best technology made available in the 90's to the creators of Pokémon. Have fun! The above was my review for the middle emulator. Kind of anti-climactic, isn't it?
