Computers are way too expensive for the hardware.  And now you actually have to send it in to replace the HDD?  Why would I send it in for something that ANYONE could do in 5 or 10 minutes tops? And it's even easier now with SATA drives. (assuming of course that they are that simple on Mac) I mean their desktops with a quad core last I checked started at $2500. You could build a top of line PC and probably still have enough left over for a 3 monitor setup. Or at the least be close.


Same thing I have against iPods. They make you send it in just to change the battery.  I mean most every other cell phone or mp3 player you can do it yourself, but not iPods.

Apple products may have some nice features but to me they aren't worth the general lack of compatibility (that is improving, but still limited), the absurdly high prices, etc.

As for iPod touch, after playing with both IOS and Android, I prefer Android. Android 4.0 is looking awesome. I'll admit the latest IOS update looks pretty cool with the ask a question part, but beyond that I haven't heard about any other changes.

They already have it rooted and running Google's market.  Also you can sideload most any google market app as well.   To do that you only have to change an option.

Given how quickly they've gotten some of this working, I'm thinking if the hardware is able to run it (seems Ram would likely be the limiting factor) I'm thinking the hackers out there will get it working quite well. It seems they are getting close to recovery options and given ICS does away with hardware buttons, they will likely put all their time into getting that working. I find the new ICS software pretty awesome. Apparently some actually have it running on the HTC Incredible (laggy but that phone has a single core CPU) with 512 MB of RAM (same as Kindle Fire).

I'll agree that the hardware will be the limiting factor, but that inexpensive price I think is will what make people put the time in. Why would I bother hacking some device that costs $500 when I can get a very similar (hardware wise) device for $199 and hack it.  I mean sure the no mic and camera are limiting but it's pretty crazy to see what people are already doing and it's been out for less than 2 weeks.

Been keeping my eye on the Kindle Fire for a while and while it seems Amazon initial software needs some optimization I'm really looking forward to seeing people get Ice Cream Sandwich running on it.  It seems it's only a matter of time. 

Anyone else looking forward to this?  They are already working on getting other Android OSs like Gingerbread/ Honeycomb working.  With ICS coming out recently and given the Kindle Fire has solid hardware I'm very curious to see what it can do with an OS like ICS.

Not noticing a whole lot of changes from 7 to 8 so far.  Though I guess it does run smoother.  Still a bit of a memory hog.

All people saying they don't use them, really should consider laser printers. Maybe a bit more expensive to begin with, but your toner won't dry out like inkjets do.

I switched a laser printer late last year. Honestly to me inkjet carts are just too expensive for the amount of pages they print.  Add in the fact they dry out as well.

I have had the same toner thing since I got my printer.  In that time I've printed nearly 400 pages and it's still probably only 1/3 of the way through. I expect it to last 800 to 1500 pages.  After that I will have to pay $25 to $50 for one that prints around 2,600 pages.

You're lucky if you get 300 pages from ink cartridges. I don't really have a need for color printing.

silverthundr : I'm not sure the word slow can accurately classify it haha.  Talk about a blast from the past 98 MB of ram.

My old laptop is now 7 or 8 years old so, yeah like yours it's more or less a paperweight.

However my desktop is an AMD 1090T (6 cores) and runs quite fast.  It's main slow down factor is my super old IDE HDD.

Honestly, the days of HTML driven websites are pretty much over. Using something like Wordpress, or even Drupal if you are adventurous is pretty common.  HTML in and of itself isn't all that great.  CSS is necessary to style now and generally it's not good programming to just use HTML anymore.

Not to mention you need PHP or some other language to anything overly interesting with them. Like have user accounts etc.

Having knowledge of HTML is essential, but generally most of the heavy lifting is done via PHP (or another script) and CSS.  Then again there's a lot of .net stuff now and it's becoming what the big sites use.

I got a note to update last week or so. Therefore 6 is out.  They switched because that's what Chrome does and I'd guess many users like to see 6.0 rather than 3.76.12

Seems what you linked is actually Firefox alpha (aka highly unstable) meaning it's not even something they are ready to beta test. I don't think they will be changing the name but rather it's for those that want to see what's coming even before it's in beta.

Actually Fire Fox 7 is on it's way.
