I see what you're saying, but for me sprite conversion is harder for XP to 95, believe me. I've only converted 2 XP sprites for this reason . Since XP uses 16 frames, half of them must be removed in order to get the 8 frames used in 95. In 2000/03 there are 12 frames, when I convert I tend to remove the middle frame and then slip the two frames on a 64x128 "sheet" in my image editor. I've converted a few like this.

As for converting sprites from XP to 95, not only do those middle frames have to be converted, but the frames themselves have to be rearranged or they're not going to work properly. It's tedious.

I do agree with you re: the graphics. I do think graphically that XP is a step up from 2000/03, especially 2000. I used XP sprites because I LOVE their detail...Now, if I could only get used to all those commands....

RPG Maker 95:

RPG Maker 2000/03:

RPG Maker XP:

I came up with this observation: IMO the new XP sprites more resemble the 95 sprites than they do the 2000/03 sprites. I don't know why that is. I also notice the XP sprites have (generally) more detail than do the 2000/03 ones and are less blocky.

Converting sprites from one format to another is challenging but can be done. I have converted a couple sprites from XP to 95, and that is the most difficult conversion of them all. Converting from 2000 to 95 is less challenging but still involves some work. I've never converted from 95 to 2000/03 but have seen it done.

MichaelVash: I won't kill you, I don't have the powers, I'm only an enchantress remember? You're right about me being in my 20s. Won't say much more than that. I feel old enough as it is.

Stoney: I don't consider myself a game creator...there are people much better at it and much more qualified to do it than I...
There's a cliche saying that you are as old (or as young) as you feel. It's true. There's a way some people have of staying young and fresh and vibrant. Then again, some people I know actually ARE immature (my sister immediately comes to mind, even though she's in her mid 30s)
There's definitely an interesting mix of forums here...that I don't have time to check out now but will soon.

My introduction to RPGs was my ex handing me a pen and paper and one of his "Vampire the Masquerade" books and telling me, "Create a character." You could imagine I looked at him like I was crazy.

LOL Hopstar

It's amazing how sometimes we're willing to do things we wouldn't ordinarily do to impress the opposite sex.

Hopstar, sort of a similar situation...Back when I was younger I had a crush on this guy that went to my church (don't laugh, it's true!) and one time he brought me a popsicle -- but it wasn't a flavor I liked. So, rather than pitch a fit and tell him to bring me a popsicle in a different flavor, I ended up sucking it up and eating it anyway.

Hehe. Spam? I thought that was that canned stuff.

A little about myself. I'm older than some of you might think (out of my teens is a good enough clue) and it's been awhile since I spent any appreciable amount of time in a classroom. I used to work at a library, until some hurricane or other flooded my place of employment, and have possessed a video game hobby for quite a few years.

I first checked out the RPG Maker series a few years ago, fiddled with it in my spare time...but never seriously started making a game until last year if you could believe that. I began it in RPG Maker 2000, then moved it to 2003 (which was harder than one would think), and I would think it's about thirty to forty percent complete.

I found this site through a friend who was working on a game in RPG Maker 95.

Oddly enough, I wasn't into video games when I was younger. In fact, the only reason I even got a Nintendo when I was a girl was because the cool kid from across the street had one, and I had to have one too. Also oddly enough, my two older sisters used it more than I did. I guess now that I have my PC I'm certainly making up for lost time. Or at least trying to.

There's a part of me that still thinks I'm too old for this stuff. But storytelling never gets old.

I'm going to be totally honest about RPG Maker XP. I haven't quite gotten the hang of 2000/2003 yet. I started making a game in 2000, then switched it to 2003...believe me, that was a big challenge, switching around the battle animations, etc...and now I'm almost two years into the project and I'm no further along than I was when I started...

But I digress. I took one look at the trial version of XP (the Japanese trial version) and said, no way...

EDIT: Just got done with the free English trial version...it's enough to make your head spin. I haven't even looked into the scripting yet. Add to the fact that I'm trying to do it on my laptop...not easy.

One question about the system requirements. Do you need to have 256 MB of RAM to use it?
