I am back. My hard drive crashed and I had to get a new one. Unfortunately this also means my progress as been lost. I'm still very much going to work on this project, I just have to start over again. Sorry for any inconveniences.

I've had Minecraft since the first day of Alpha and have been with it ever since. Keeping up to date with each release and studying each new feature to master it. It has been a long ride since then. I think you rated it fairly. It's not impressive graphically yeah but that just adds to the style and uniqueness that is Minecraft. Great review for a great game.

Also welcome back.

More updates!
I've been using the past few days to study up on ROM hacking and GBA sound registries. There seems to be nothing online that explains the coding for GBA sounds other than data for Direct Sound. Seeing as every sound effect in the game uses hard coding instead of voice samples, extracting that data is a bit more difficult. So I've been testing different byte code and programs to recreate the sound using the ROM hard coding. I'm using Sappy 2006 to find the headers, tracks, voice groups, etc. then finding those pointers in the .gba file using VBA's Memory Viewer. I write down in Notepad++ all the bytes and thus begins the byte code tampering. I use BoyScout 1.0 to recreate the tracks which has a .wav export option.
Once I can interpret the byte code in the headers, track data, and voice groups, I should easily be able to export the sound effects. The naming structure for those sounds however will be a bit of a hassle. I've found some list online that identify a lot of the FX names. Most of the FX are Pokemon moves though.
So far I've been able to Identify certain byte code patterns in the SFX tracks. 0xBD 0x?? = instrument number, 0x3C or 0x00 + 0x?? = velocity, 0xBE 0x?? = Envelope (Usually 100 for sound effects but varies for music).
Thing I need to identify are Sweep Shifts, Envelope Steps, Sweep Time, Note Length, etc. Usually Sweep info is shown in Voice Group Data which I can get using Sappy.
I'm getting close! Finding the sounds might take a bit longer to complete but I'm trying to work on it everyday while I'm out of a job. o.o Too much time on my hands..

Ok great!

So far, I've been able to rip all of the Music, Cries, and Instrumentation. Some of the sounds under Instruments are FX like Rain, Vehicle Engine, Explosions, waterfalls, etc. (From what I can hear..)

Progress:

Ripping: Complete

Music - 100%

Cries - 100% (Not Required)

SFX - 100%

Converting: Complete

Music (gsf > wav > ogg) - 100%

Cries (raw > wav > ogg) - 50% (Not Required)

SFX : raw (Complete)

RAWFX to OGG (255/255) Completed

RawFX Identified (139/255) Completed

Most of the other audio is created directly by the ROM. This includes any saw or noise waveform sounds from the menu selections, to walking through doors. These will take me a bit longer to find and extract the data for.

This will be fun.

So progress report!

I've searched online for some resources and getting the music for the game is as easy as installing Winamp. ._.

Pokémon cries I can get also via Audacity's Raw Data Importer. I've gone ahead and listened to (yeah listened to) the entire Fire Red ROM. Mostly static and AOL dial-up tones. I found the sound fonts and cries. I just need to locate independent sounds for menu navigation, battle moves, etc. I guess getting a list of all of the sounds would be a good thing to start with.

Some questions for you:

Is there anything you don't need sound wise for this project? I'm sure the Pokémon mod has sounds for the Pokémon but I'm not sure what, nor which game they are from.

Will these files be replacing existing minecraft files or adding on to what is already established?

Do you want to implement the original game music into the map?

I guess that's all I have for now. Once I have more details on the ripping process I'll create a progress sheet of what I have done based on what you're looking for.

I don't meet the server hours requirement but I'd be interested in helping out as an audio editor. I already work on making orchestrated (and EMD) versions of Pokémon music. If you need proof of my audio skills you can check out my SoundCloud. I do plan on being active in the server but my Internet is limited to 1GB from 6am - 10:30pm EST so I won't be online until after 10:30. I would give you some examples of the redone music for Pokemon but they're for Pokemon World Online and aren't released to the public yet.

I'm a 13 year experienced drummer, I play guitar, bass, piano, and I produce music as a hobby. Mostly EDM, House, Hardstyle, Ambient, and sometimes I'll dwell into the dubs.

Seishiro.Leonhart : It's not always about being rich enough, it's mostly being able to save your money and earn enough to get the things you want on your own. I was in your situation once but my brother moved out. I had bought most of the games we played myself so I was left with 3 games and no xbox. It wasn't until about a year later that I was able to get enough money to buy myself a Slim 4GB and another 4 months before I could buy a 250GB HDD for the system.

Maybe ask for money on your birthday and holidays rather than gifts?

I'll join! I'm a pretty good Reach and Halo 3 Player. Not at all MLG.. What Lobby would we be hanging around in? Custom, Multiplayer, Firefight?

If playing custom, I have some forge maps on Reach I have made that would be great for 4v4.

I'm actually taking Game Design as a Major at Full Sail University. I've also had experience in designing and developing games. Making a MMORPG is time consuming and takes a lot of hard work.

This is where you need to start, to make a MMORPG.

1. Come up with a plot, setting, etc.
2. Write character bios for each actor in the game. Even NPC, Enemies, whatever.
3. Write a main story. Something the players should follow for the role.
4. Start working on Side Quests.

After months of writing your RPG, you'll start working on the development of your world. There are many 3D Modeling tools on the Internet; Unity3D, 3dsMax, Blender, and more. Some are Free, some are free with a catch, and others will cost an arm and a leg to get. It's all a matter of preference.

Once you have 3D or 2D modeling software, start designing the characters, the world, items, everything. This can take up to 2-3 years to finish if you work fast. I'd suggest getting someone to help you with the designs. An important piece to this would be a concept artist.

Some programs, like UDK (Unreal Development Kit), will be useful when putting together all the pieces for the game itself. This includes scripting, game physics, model texture, and more. And once you have your world completed, you'll start working on the User Interface of the game.

After about 5 years of development, you should have a popular MMORPG in a ready. Now all you need to do is script your Server Client and find a Server Host. The Server Client will be uploaded to the Server Host and implement the game allowing users to connect and play.

Websites are essential to any MMORPG. For without a website, players cannot create an account for the game and connect to the server. This will also be useful for forums and support.

I hope this has helped you get a basic idea of starting a MMORPG. I wish you good luck on your journey into the work of Game Design. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Yeah I'll play around with it a bit. Maybe find some Tutorials.

If I find anything I'll leave a link in the original post so others trying to find the same thing don't have to go far.

I'm not too familiar with VX's script system. I took the time to learn basic RUBY but I still don't know the program. So! I'm in need of some scripts for the game I'm working on.

Over world Map script - Similar to the one in FF1&2.

I can't for the life of me find one online. I've only seen mini-map scripts and that's not exactly what I need.

I'll be requesting more scripts if all goes well.

Here is a preview of our World (WIP) http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/ad32/Karasuro/NSGC/DW_Overworld.png

Davideo7 : Well you've definitely done a splendid job at that. It's rare to find commercials like those these days.
