Our planet will end, as everything does. There are too many theories to follow these days. Some are not very believable and some are down-right incredible.
The 2012 theory is the most intriguing to me. Like Earth, galaxies have an equator. Our solar system rotates around the Milky Way along this equator. Sometimes it is above it, and sometimes it drops below. But every 26,000 years it passes through the equator, coming in direct alignment with the center of the galaxy.
The center of our galaxy bears a super-massive black hole. You could imagine it as a giant engine, churning the stars in their circular paths. Along the equator of this black hole is a violent emittance of Gamma rays. Once we are aligned, we will be in direct contact with these rays.
People know our planet is warming up, but did you know other planets are warming as well? Ice caps are melting on both Earth and Mars, Pluto has a 300% atmospheric pressure increase due to evaporation, and Jupiter lost 2 out of the 3 white ovals within the the years of 1997−2000- Ovals that have been seen since 1665. Apparently, Al Gore was wrong, and humans have little, if nothing to do with this "Global Warming".
There are many possible conclusions, such as Solar cycles. But, the 2012 theory explains this phenomena as well- As we approach the Dark Rift (galactic equator) the more we are exposed to the Gamma Ray emittance. This would cause our solar system to warm.
Other theories about 2012 suggest that gravity will be a playing factor as well. I mean, we ARE dealing with the strongest gravitational force in the galaxy. This force, in the right circumstances, can cause unimaginable damage, and loss of life.
The theory states that; in the winter solstice of 2012, when our planet is aligned with the sun and the center of the galaxy it would cause a massive gravitational shift. If Earth shifted it's axis by even a small amount, well... Let me explain.
Earth isn't perfectly round, it is kinda oval, with it's narrowing circumference at the equator. If our planet shifts to another equilateral zone, the entire shape of the planet would warp. Imagine standing on the tallest hill in your city, then 30 seconds later you are 300 feet under water. The changes will be abrupt and without warning.
Like I said, this is all theory... But it's the most interesting of all. We could all be alive during a new age of man. Personally, this is enough to get me to move to some high mountain. But...most high mountains don't have internet or cable access... =P
