I'm just curious to know why some people pick the avatars that they have.

My avatar is Yoshi singing into a microphone. I don't remember where I got it from, but I think it's artwork from an official Nintendo website. It doesn't have any deeper meaning. I just like Yoshi and I thought the picture was funny. I would guess that's how most people pick their avatars to be honest.

My Minipic is one of the emoticons from Gang Garrison 2. I guess I just thought it was a funny face

Unrelated, but I found something out about Minipics: If you want them to be pixel-perfect, they have to be sized at 14x14, not 12x12 like the "profile edit" page says.

lol "Avatars are like internet bumper stickers"

I have a picture of pudding as my userpic currently because of a running joke about me being obsessed with pudding. I mean I really am a huge fan of it and eat it anytime I get the chance, but there's an obvious amount of exaggeration in the whole gag.

I've never had a minipic though, mainly because I've yet to find a picture that small that I want to use, and resizing is a bit more work than I'm interested in doing for something so small right now. They're cool to see around though.

I picked my current avatar, the knife with a rifle scope on it, because, when I saw it, I thought it was too dumb and silly to not make it my profile pic, if that makes any sense. My mini pic is a little smiley face firing an AR-15. I lifted it from a firearms related forum while I was doing some reading. I was much more obsessed with arms then than I am now. Though, I still love them.

My avatar was made by a close friend more than a year ago (time flies faster than I thought). It was made to represent the old Round Table of Game Guide Writers, which was also reflected in our post layouts. It was a good time, and since I personally like how it looks, I've decided to keep it.

I uploaded my mini pic so long ago that I hardly remember what it is. Back then I used to have energy-related or electric-related avatars, so I saw this one while surfing Google and decided to keep it. It's no longer in my PC, so if it ever goes down I'll probably not replace it with anything else because they haven't much use.

Doge is currently my user pic because it has been what I have been using since probably about early 2016. I had many different user pics before then, and I wanted to settle on a profile picture, mini picture, and layout to use, and at the time I was really into the whole Doge meme. 

I don't really regret it, cause I still love Doge due to it being such a cute dog, and honestly a pretty cute meme.

My avatar is a photo of Natasha Negovanlis, one of my favourite actresses. She did a photo shoot for a horror magazine for Halloween, which was absolutely gorgeous and that picture is my fave of the bunch. 

My mini pic is the paragon symbol from the Mass Effect series which is my life. Every time I play, I play as a paragon and think the symbol is kinda cool looking.
