I've never played Assassins Creed, but I've never understood why people enjoy it. To clarify, I'm not saying its bad, because I haven't actually played it. I'm just wondering what the general main attraction towards it is.

Choose one of the options above and post with more details, please.

Well, to be honest, I've barely played it myself, but I did play AC2 for a short time at my cousin's house, and I really, really enjoyed the parkour/movement, so I guess that counts as platforming.

I'm not a huge fan myself but I can definitely understand the reasons people enjoy it. There's a lot to like. How it retells several historical events and generally has a pretty interesting narrative and characters to go with it. It explores a lot of areas of history that haven't been covered by many other games like the pirate theme of AC IV for example. Another draw is spectacle (being able to explore all of these famous locations based on real life environments) and the parkour aspect is definitely one of my personal favorite things about it. It's a nice change up from a lot of other games at least until now when more games are starting to feature it in some form.

I've only played IV and a bit of III but from what I heard the games are typically pretty easy and the combat formula is rarely changed so I doubt those two things play the biggest part in it.

For me, its the medieval hardcore parkour thingy thing cause its cool (and a bit unrealistic) to just basically jump around and goof around. We out here using a medieval hoodie and jump around like a fool.

I've only played a small portion of one before, but I loved it so much that I fully plan to buy ACIII: Liberation for the PS Vita. I would play every AC game but most of them have strong language and that's something I just can't tolerate. Liberation doesn't have that thankfully, so I can play it.

As for what makes it fun, the entire concept is cool I guess, but the parkour is what made me love it. Running, jumping, climbing...it was great. The combat when sword dueling was nice enough, but I hated the first (and only) fight I had with enemies involving muskets. It just didn't flow that well, but that may have been in part due to the fact that I didn't catch the tutorial on how to do it.

Anyway, yeah the area navigation is what I find to be the biggest draw, for sure.

The story sucks. The voice acting is unenthusiastic. The atmosphere can feel unrealistic at times. The combat is really quite dull. Almost all of the missions are either "kill this guy" or "follow this guy without being seen." I do not enjoy Assassin's Creed games a huge amount. That being said, the platforming is quite enjoyable. It feels very well designed and it is quite fun to roleplay and fly across rooftops. Spider-Man 2 on Playstation 2 still had funner parkour though

I sure do love shelling out $60 every year for a heavily copy and pasted, glitched out, DLC ridden bugfest.

The first few games seemed okay though.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

I actually like the atmosphere in the Assassin's Creed games I've played, especially in Black Flag. The atmosphere in each game is perfect for the timeline each separate game takes place in. I haven't bought a game in the series since Black Flag though.
