How am I gonna say this... Lemme see here. Umm ok. Lets say that you have windows98 as your operating system. But! You one day want to use another operating system like windowsXP. So of course you go from Win98 to WinXP. Will your default system be XP instead of 98 from now on? Anyone knows?

Hmmm Im having a bit of trouble understanding your query, well you can format your hard drive and install Windows XP fresh. Or you can partition your had drive and run whats callled a dual boot. Where Windows 98 and windows XP would each reside on their own partition. Then at startup after POST you would be asked which OS you would like to boot to.

Maybe if you could provide a little more info(exactly what you want to do) and I could be a little bit more helpful.

Well. I have WinXP. But like if I had to format my computer for any reason at all. Would I end up back on Win98 again? I don't wanna be on win98 if I do have to format... Which is why I asked.

When you format a hard drive it clears it of all data. So if you're running XP and you format nothing will be on the Hard Disk until you install another OS.
