SoL@R : In my opinion, I think it depends. If it's a demonic type of tattoo, with a demon on it for example, I don't think you should get a tattoo like that. But if it's something like a non-permanent one or a Christian appropriate one, I think it's okay.

Yikes. This is still an argument.

You can get a tattoo and you will still go to heaven if you have the Christian faith. You aren't going to hell because you got a tattoo or if you have tattoos.

Txgangsta : You do realize that your statement, is irreverent to the context... right? 

While I do think that many tattoos are at least a bad idea, and some bordering on horrible. I do not think that tattoos are wrong. Singelli brought up the only verse I know of that references "ink" or markings on your body. This verse does however specify, "for the dead." That, in my opinion/understanding, does go for the entire sentence. 

I do however have an interesting thing to bring up... The process of tattooing is actually harmful to your body, and the way the ink "stays" is keeping your immune system slightly weaker. It uses the immune system to attack the ink, but it creates a kind of "reaction" causing the ink's color to stay, not as bright or clearly defined as the ink, but it serves it's purpose. This is of coarse against the Bible telling Christians to be good stewards/ temple/ any other phrase or word in the Bible referring to maintaining your body.

Going without sleep is also harmful to the body. Yet, I would say that going without sleep isn't bad because it hurts the body. I think tattoos are often just ascetic. I do worry that tattoos end up being expressions of idolatry though. Even "I love mom" may be idolatry if family is worshiped on a level comparable with God. I think that wasting thousands of dollars on ascetic goods is also likely imprudent, and most people have other things they ought to spend their money on.
