Oh boy. Sonic the Hedgehog is a game known to many by its infamy. It was released for the Xbox 360 on November of 2006, and for the Playstation 3 on January 2007. It was released for the 15th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Which means it should be good, right? Right!? Let's find out....please help me....
Graphics - 7
The graphics were actually pretty decent seeing when this game came out. The only time I don't particularly "like" the graphics is when you see the usual cutscenes that you watch during gameplay. The CGI cutscenes, such as the openings in every character story, look beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Sound - 10
Sonic games are well known for their music, and this game is no exception. This Sonic game has some of the best, dare I say THE best music in the entire series. Songs like Solaris Phase 2, Aquatic Base, and all of the character theme songs are amazing. It makes me wonder how they even come up with these amazing musical pieces.
Addictiveness - 3
I'm going to be completely honest whenever I say this...When I saw this category, I almost burst out laughing. Addictiveness? On Sonic 06? That's very funny. You all must know this game and everything it has in store. The glitches, the story, the LOADING SCREENS. Oh dear god, the loading screens. If your idea of playing a video game is staring at a bunch of loading screens for 50 percent of the actual game, then this is the game for you.
Story - 7
I like the story in this game. I really do. And although it can seem a bit jumbled up sometimes due to jumping back and forth between timelines in-game, I always end up putting the pieces together in the end. The thing that ruined the story for me, is one of the end cutscenes. You know it. The one where Elise KISSES a DEAD HEDGEHOG. That's both necrophilia AND bestiality. I have NO idea what was going through Sega's heads when they came up with this cutscene. In fact, I would rate this game much, much higher if they'd just take Elise out of the game entirely.
Depth - 5
There's not really that much to do after you beat the main game besides the things you do in most Sonic games once you finish them. Instead of emblems, you get medals. There are multiple silver medals hidden in each level, and you get a gold medal for each mission you complete. Also, have fun with more loading screens. There are some quests you can do, although I advise you not to, because they are probably the most annoying part of the game. When you talk to someone and accept their mission, a loading screen occurs. After that loading screen, they explain the mission to you, which takes about 10 seconds to read might I add. And then another loading screen. Did they REALLY feel the need to put another loading screen in between the mission briefing and the actual mission? This is stupid.
Difficulty - 9
I find this game to be one of the hardest Sonic games I've ever played. And I'm not saying that in a positive way. It's hard because of all the glitches you can find, the sometimes odd level design, and just the entire game in general, how about that? There's not really much else I could say about the difficulty, so I'm going to leave it at that.
Overall - 6.4
Even though this game has MANY, many flaws that could have been improved upon, there still manages to be that little charm you get when playing this. Although, it's not that big of a charm. I find this game ok, but leaning more onto the side of being a bad game. Does that make sense? So with that, this game gets the score that I have given it. Oh boy.
